Kenton gave her a devious grin. "well im sure we will generate some talk on the rumor wheel, and when you finally start to show then all of their rumors will be confirmed." he started to walk back to the shore. it was never a good idea to be late returning from patrol for someone might get the wrong idea. no point in making anyone fret about being under attack or anything like that.
"and he, for all we know the foals could end up looking more like you than like the father, and maybe no one will ever figure it out." he winked gave his tail a playful flick. he was soaked, and tired both physically and emotionally. maybe a nice long nap was instore.

Cali thought about that, a bit concerned, and then decided to forget about it. All she wanted to do was relax. Following Kenton back to the bank, she nudged his shoulder, secretly appreciating his warmth. "It's all going to be alright, isn't it?" she asked, looking up at him again. She figured that he was ready to go back, and she would go along with him. Silently thanking the trees for calling her hear when they had, Cali looked up at the sky. "I mean, look at this place. Everything is perfect here, and we're all happy." Turning her gaze on him, she smiled. "I think this could last." And it was true - not many things had been long-lived in her life, either because they never got to where they were going, or they never started to begin with. But these children, and this herd, and this stallion... Cali could see that this was her place, and she was proud to be where she was.

With Cali at his side, Kenton began to walk back to the herd. it really was the perfect day. warm, bright, and full of hope towards the future. "yea, i think we are going to make it." he turned and smiled at her. as they reached the last few trees that surrounded the nesting grounds Kenton turned and kissed Cali on the forehead. "please excuse me now, i have to go check on a few things." he didnt really want to go, but he still had some duties to attend to. he smile once more at Cali, his friend, mate, forest beauty. it had taken forever for him to realize it, but you know what they say. your best friend can become your truest love.

Smiling back at him, Calixte nodded, though she was a little surprised at being kissed on the forehead - that wasn't something that happened every day, though the odd little act of affection was endearing. A little shocked and bewildered by the events that had taken place in just a few minutes, Cali wished him good luck as he went one way and she turned toward the nesting grounds. She tried to stop herself from turning back to look at him too many times; each time she did, she wondered how she'd gotten so lucky, and how she'd found such a good friend in him.
Lying down gingerly in her little nest of grass, flowers and other trinkets, she moved Oke to the side. The little bear cub was sleeping peacefully, even snoring a little - he didn't even notice that he was being pushed carefully about to make room for his 'mama'. Cali looked at him with awe, thinking that he'd soon have brothers and sisters to play with. Resting her head on his plump little tummy, she looked up at the great blue sky above her.
Somehow, she'd managed to find the perfect guy - or rather, he's found her. Twice. - and he'd been alright with everything she'd put him through. Every little heartbreak she'd told him about, every little tragic history of her life, and he'd listened. And now, they were together, and they would get a happily ever after. He was her best friend.
For just a few moments in her life, everything was perfect.
