Themis nodded, going for one of the bigger rocks that the civilians wouldn't have been able to handle. He saw nothing wrong with letting them help with things like this, as long as they didn't overdo it and strain themselves. Or as long as nothing nasty showed up.

If a monster came, it would be their jobs - senshi, zodiacs and knights - to take care of it.

"It will probably be clearer in time, but..." He shook his head. "Im not even sure what im even trying to find..."

Jade had heard voices. Voices of chatting and voices of rocks being moved around. Curious of the source of them, she had made her way towards the Library where seemed to be some kind of meeting going on. There were senshi and few other, so-called civilians. But before she had a chance to say any kind of greetings, something quick and small and fluffy ran between her ankles, almost making her to lose her balance.

"CHRONOS!!!" a little turkish van cat with an elegant white collar called out. Or at least, it was a cat a moment ago. In the mid-way of it's run, the cat transformed into a beautiful, long-haired girl with white dress on. When she was enough close, the girl opened her arms and straight up hugged the princess, ignoring others at the same.

"We came as soon we noticed the message," Cora excitedly announced, smiling brightly as she pulled the distance. It was until now she noticed possible rudeness in her actions.

"Oh, I'm sorry! Where are my manners?" she quietly yelped, almost in panic and quickly fell down into a deep courtsey position in front of the princess. "In your service, Princess Chronos."

.....????

The arrival of Cora the Guardian cat brought everyone's attention to something unusual. There was, obviously, the fact that some of the rubble-movers present had never seen a talking cat, let alone one that could transform into a cat-eared human before. But the space she had landed on after making the change would prove to be even more strange.

She had jovially jumped into a space where one of the larger bricks had just been moved from. It was easy to figure this out even if one hadn't been paying much attention to what had been where before they started working, because the brick's shadow stubbornly remained. Cora was standing right smack dab in the middle of it, even. It lended an unusual sensation to her bare feet while she remained there: soft, spongy, a little moist and sticky, and deathly cold.

The shadow could be seen stretching from beneath wherever a rock was or had been previously standing, all the way to the temple door behind the rubble. From there, it covered the entryway completely.

It was unusual enough for Jade to see a cat transforming into a girl right in front of her eyes. Not only that, the cat girl was acting oddly familiar towards the princess, which disturbed Jade a little to who took such behavior as disrespectful, especially towards royal. However, her attention moved quickly towards the strange shadow under Cora. Something was wrong.

"Hey cat girl. Below you," Jade said, keeping her voice low. "Everyone, move away from the rubble."

It was Jade's remark that got Cora's attention. "Huh?" she said, tilting her head and then looked downwards.

And then it hit her. It was like she had seen a ghost and accidentally squished a slimey slug at the same time. It was only a blink of an eye during which Cora's expression changed completely. She stared at the shadow, pink eyes widened of horror. Her hair stood up like she had just got an electric shock, likewise as did light chestnut fur on her tail which now resembled a duster. Her body freezed for a moment, until she tightly closed her eyes, pulled her hands close to her chest and started nervous tip-toeing right where she was standing, trying to touch the shadow as less as possible. Her sing-song voice had turned into a squeaky, high-pitched voice as she pleaded in panic.

"Get it off, get it off, get it off...!"

((Sorry if I rushed but I wanted to write Cora's reaction so badly. heart ))

Chronos was about to reply Themis when a familiar voice called her, and she turned to see Cora, the Guardian Cat she had met in Elysion before. A bright smile blossomed on her face which was quickly replaced by a confused quirk of the eyebrow. "We...? You mean, you brought Hypnos here?" A Chibi Senshi in the Surrounding? What were they thinking? The Surrounding was most definitely not a place for children!

It was when her mouth was open, ready to lecture Cora on bringing a wide-eyed innocent little girl here, of all places, when she noticed the shadow on the floor that extended all the way to the temple door. "Everyone. Back." Chronos said sharply, motioning to the civilians in particular. She did not have a good feeling about this. Then again, Chronos couldn't attack it outright, not when it was plastered on the door of a sacred building.

Well that was certainly news to him. Placing a rock down on the ground he pulled out his cellphone and started to tinker away flicking through menu after menu trying to find the awesome 'take me home button' of course the actual home button usually just took him back to the main screen.

For a moment he didn't even acknowledge the Guardian Cat who joined them, turning to Themis to ask about the ability to return to his home world when he finally saw what was going on out the corner of his eye. It was when the Princess spoke that his eyes narrowed.

Glancing down at his own rock he noticed a lack of shadow, the spot where he moved it from contained one just like the one Cora was standing in.

"Princess.... this isn't some kind of natural defense is it?" Moving closer he offered a hand to Cora, "C'mon get yourself out of that...that thing right now alright?"

Holi paled, more so even than her normal 'I don't tan I burn, peel, and turn white again', complexion, the hairs standing up on the back of her neck. Had the music played in most horror films kicked in, she wasn't sure she could have been further alarmed than she was by everyone's reaction, and any amused joviality over the "Killroy Wall" discussion vanished in a heartbeat as the hairs on the back of her neck prickled coldly and stood to attention. Even the presence of the Senshi didn't make her feel particularly safe, not with the anxious she-cat behaving that way, and certainly not remembering that one of the Zodiac senshi had been among the first gulped down by the eerily pretty but dangerous whale at the rainbow bridge.

She dropped the small rock she'd been carrying as though she'd just discovered that it was covered in centipedes and earwigs (in her mind some of the more disgusting things with legs that Mother Nature had been deranged enough to produce.) and scrambled several steps back from it, wiping her hands on her ragged pajama pants. It made no sense trying to scrub off potential contamination from a shadow but she did it anyway.

"W-what...." She started to demand, but the words died in her suddenly dry throat.

We ?

Oh. Crap. Hypnos. Both he and Bell had left, with Ainsley with Cora. Ugh...

He would need to have a chat with Cora later. But now, there were more... immediate things to worry about.

Like whatever was pooling at Cora's feet. "Run out of it, Cora !" Looked like it was no use, the cat-girl had already started to panic. He was crouched, ready to move at the blink of an eye, but... What about the civilians ? With his shield, he was probably the most useful at keeping them safe.

But he couldn't leave Cora in this... this thing ! "Cora, come to me ! Jump over it ! Please, I can't leave them alone ! Get here out of here, please ! Everyone else, behind me !" He stepped in front of Holi, just in case, and reached out an hand, in arm's reach of the blonde catgirl.

If she only took his hand, he could pull her out and still be in position to do a shield in front of the civilians...

As soon as everyone's attention had been brought to it, the shadow began to ripple like hot water just about to boil. Large bubbles began to appear behind the crest of every miniature wave. One bubble right smack dab in the middle of the would-be-door peeled open in the same way an eye would, revealing a sickly blue blister of something underneath.

The rest multiplied in number, growing bigger with each second, until suddenly they all burst -- and a number of whiplike tendrils shot out of them in every direction.

ROLL AN 8-SIDED DIE TO DODGE!

If you roll between 1 and 5, the number is how many tendrils have caught you. Each tendril wraps around one limb of your body and renders it immobile. If you're unlucky enough to be in the grip of five, you also have one around your waist. Their grip is incredibly strong and cold as ice.

However, if you roll between 6 and 8, you managed to escape all the ones that came after you! Good job!

Natural defense? No, not that she could remember. Why would it even put up a fight, when she was here, with the Opal Crystal? It didn't seem right. Perhaps it was the cracks in the barrier surrounding the Castle that had resulted in this.

Strange bubbles began to form on the shadow's surface and Chronos beckoned all of them to get back. A sense of foreboding settled into the pit of her stomach as she tried to rack her mind to place exactly what it was. It was then when tendrils shot out, one wrapping around her leg, and the other around her arm. Chronos tried to wriggle free, but found that she couldn't move the limbs that had been caught. With her other leg, Chronos kicked at one of the tentacles as she struggled to reach her tiara with her free hand.

Oh Hell.

The other Senshi was talking of getting back, the Civilians, well they were civilians and the farther away they got the better things would probably be right now. Of course where the Princess was thinking of natural defenses Hephaistos was thinking the same way.

At least until two tendrils shot up and grabbed the princess in place. That wrote the idea of a defense system right out the window. Suddenly a series of tendrils shot at him, but where the princess hadn't warning he had a chance dipping down and moving to the side as they went to grab at everyone else. Without thinking he reached down and grabbed a jagged stone stabbing at a tendril grabbing the princess' arm.

"The Shadows alive! Both of you two," he shouted towards the civilians while trying to hack the tendrils off the princess, "Get back if you can!"

((First roll = Jade, second roll = Cora))

Jade had no intention to get injuries for herself so standing behind was more than okay to her. Not that she was coward, no. She just wanted to analyze the situation a little before making any rush moves. However, for that she had no time as two tendrils rushed toward her. As an reflex, she put her hands in front of her as a cover. Soon, she felt an ice cold grip in both of them. Behind the gritted teeth she hissed, from both frustration and the pain.

Panic was overwhelming feeling, at least to Cora it was. However, it seemed that some of Themis' words reached in her ears as she suddenly stopped her nervous tip-toeing. She turned to look at the eternal senshi, her teary pink eyes filled with fear. Lips quivering she simply stared at him for a while until she finally spoke quietly.

"Okay, I'll jump."

She turned a bit on her heels, tip-toed a little bit more, preparing for the jump. She tried to avoid touching the icky shadow thing as much as possible, her body shivering a little of the very idea of touching it. Just before the jump, the cat girl closed her eyes for a moment and took deep breath. Silently, she counted on three and then leaped, trying to reach Themis' arm.

But the shadow monster wasn't letting her escape that easily. Two black tendrils shot towards the cat girl, and clinged to the closest body parts they could reach, her bare feet. A shock and despair reflected from Cora's face as she felt the strong, ice cold grip.

She had been so close, only inches away from the safety.

Others weren't so lucky, but although not entirely graceful, Holi's startled lurch backward, which landed her on her butt and left her crabwalking as fast as she could away from first the roiling bubble and the resulting tentacles, rolling aside with an undignified screech (which she'd avoid admitting to if possible later) at the last second as several of them reached to snag her.

At the moment, the tentacles seemed to have a rather perverse preference for the girls....

...hadn't she seen this plot in an Anime somewhere? That one she'd tried to rinse out of her memory for years? Oh HELL No she wasn't going to let herself get caught if she could avoid it! Hell, she liked Yuri just as much as the next red blooded gi....nevermind. But still, the second you added tentacles to the picture, things never went well.

"INYOURDREAMS PERVO!!"

...

A pathetic battle cry at best... but it was the first thing that jumped to mind as she pulled off one of her long suffering slippers (Hey it had worked on the Space Whale) and flung it at a nest of tentacles. She wasn't particularly concerned with which one it hit, so long as it kept them away, with the idea of them actually releasing someone over the impact of a fuzzy cat slipper an bonus prize to her own hopefully continued freedom.

s**t, s**t s**t s**t... "Cora !"

Too late. The guardian cat got caught in the 'explosion', and awaiting the catgirl's jump as he was, he had no time to react - one tentacle wrapped around each limb, and lifted off the ground.

This was bad. And pretty damn cold, if he could actually feel it through the many layers of his fuku. "Themis... Noise..."

Just as he managed to get some headway into raising his arm, the... thing yanked it back down again.

Oh, a kitty!

Oh, not a kitty.

Grant blinked and took that one in stride. Things were very strange in this place. very strange indeed. It was probably all mirrors and smoke, but he wasn't going to question anything until they were safely home, and the chaos that seemed to be following this unfortunate group of people ebbed away. Staged or not, there were people who were really afraid, really sad, and he would think of them before anything else.

"Oh no!" he cried helpfully when the strange... thing... that he couldn't explain burst into strange tendril things that he didn't want to try to understand anyway. "Look out!" He moved to try and help whoever was closest, the princess, the girl that had been helping them, the strangely dressed Senshi folk, the kitty: anyone he could.

Instead, he felt strong ropes wrap around his limbs. They were flat in a way and oddly cold in a way that made him feel like the parts of his legs and arms that were trapped by them suddenly lacked the ability to feel. Or maybe that was because they were rather tight. In any case, he found both arms and both legs suddenly securely bound.

"Help me!" He cried on instinct, then amended, "if you're not too busy saving yourselves first, and could spare me a moment! Don't worry if you're busy!"

It wasn't sarcasm.
