Riley's legs swiveled off of the plague doctor as she sat up straight, taking the magazine into her own hands. This was - why would it even try to be reading this kind of..

She furrowed her eyebrows, looking up at Malodore with a million questions in her eyes, but it couldn't see her. She sighed sharply, and then dropped her head into its lap, holding the magazine above her head and reading it.

All right.. She let the absurdity of the previous few moments go.. for now. This was of course difficult, being that talking about.. matters of the flesh - she cringed as her face heated up at the mere thought - well, they tended to try and stick in your thoughts. And muss them up with things. Physical things. Moldy things.

Magazine. Yes. Let's see. My Malodore wants to get to know me, so it resorts to a magazine. She started ticking off the questions, one by one, but her voice held a tinge of dismay throughout. My favorite place to travel.. hmm. Forested areas. I enjoy areas teeming with life and noise. Where do you like to be touched - skip. She flipped the page hastily and moved on. What do you like most about yourself. My intellect. Easy one. What was your first crush - skiiip. What is this nonsense, how will any of this help you get to know me? Ah, here's one. What is your favorite food. Candy coated brains, decisamente. She chuckled at throwing a bit of Italian at it, but let the magazine lie on her chest, and looked up at it. Two glowing white eyes pierced the darkness from its lap.

If you really want to get to know me, Malodore, you should just ask questions that you find relevant. This magazine is rubbish.

"I, ah. I am not very good at such things, I fear. Plague doctor courting... I was never taught, and..." It was suddenly rather glad they were here and not in its own dorm room; it wasn't sure it could talk about plague doctor courting with Fedele around. Just in case. "Ah... yes. So I saw that and thought perhaps I could learn something from it. The way other beings court."

Then it tilted its head to one side. "How do you like to be touched? Not on your, ah, tentacle, I know that much..."

Plague doctor courting. It was trying to court her. This time, Riley's soft chuckle was well hidden, kept private in her own mind, but she turned and nuzzled her face against its coat. It was just experimenting on her, the way it loved to experiment and learn with everything. And suddenly, that made it a thousand times less awkward.

And then it became a thousand times more awkward again.

Uhh. Her nuzzling stopped, and she looked up at it again. That depends, I suppose. You do mean you, when discussing touching, right? Not, ah, the general public.

If blushes could glow..

The angle of Malodore's head-tilt increased until its hat nearly fell off. "I, ah. What is the distinction? There is something here I am missing, evidently."

Riley reached up and rubbed one of her eyes as a nervous reflex. Well. There is a difference, actually. It's embarrassing to explain, but you sort of already know from experience. See, the problem is..

Was she really about to say this? All in the interest of obtaining knowledge, she supposed.

I do like it. I like it very much. It's - er, well it's very sensitive. Which is why I do not want people touching it. It's a modesty issue, I suppose. It isn't.. well it isn't proper to allow just anyone to make you feel that way.

Malodore couldn't see her, but she could see it, and out of reflex she picked up the magazine and slid it up until it covered her face.

So. There you go. Now you know.

"Ah!" For one moment, Malodore's mind cleared. "Si, of course, of course, we are warned against touching certain delicate areas lest it be construed as an inappropriate sexual advan... ce..."

Are you trying to mate with me?

OH.

Malodore very nearly did crawl under the couch right there. "If that's what they mean, why don't they just say it?! Why all this 'touch' and 'exciting in bed'? Why do they not just say 'hello, how do you like your fornication?' Merde!"

The metaphorical lightbulb above Malodore's head was almost visible. /Almost/. Well, I believe these magazines are trying to use clever wordplay to make a conversation between lovers less embarrassing. In our case, I think they managed the opposite. She snickered quietly. I told you it was rubbish. If you want to get to know me on your terms, you're going to have to do it without the help of this kind of aid. I'm sorry.

"I have no particular objection to the topic, but I detest obfuscation," Malodore muttered, then shook its head and sighed. "Mi dispiace. My intentions are pure, prometto... even if my execution is, ah, somewhat lacking."

Pure. Right. Did she sound disappointed? A little. She did her best to hide it. I understand of course. So, now that you're on your own, did you have any other questions you wanted to ask me, or have you now found out too much about me and wish you never had? This she said with a chuckle, clearly not about to get up and let it go.

Was there anything else Calder had asked about? It couldn't remember. "Ah. You could... ask me, and perhaps your questions are also ones I could ask back to you?" it said, awkwardly.

"I want to know all about you," it added. "I do, truly."

Riley let out a chuckle. Ahah, you cheater. Getting me to do the work for you. She turned and snuggled her face against its coat again. Fine. Let's see. What.. A question came to mind, but she realized quickly enough that asking it would mean it would ask her, and the question died before it ever had a chance to surface. Instead, something much less troublesome bubbled forth. How about.. what do you like most about our relationship? That sounds like something the magazine might say. But still an interesting question.

"That we have one," Malodore said, firmly, opening its beak in a smile. "Or, alternatively, your marvelous, intoxicating mind. That one was quite simple, mia cara." It sounded proud of itself.

As usual, its sweet talk concerning her mind hit the mark, and the face that buried against its coat heated considerably. Now, that second one is cheating. That's what you like about me, not necessarily about the relationship. But I will accept your answers nonetheless.

And, sneakily, she continued asking questions until she was called on her lack of answers. Let's see. Where do you see us in.. a hundred years?

"Hmm. For myself... the finest doctor in all of Halloween, with a splendid set of wings to match." An impish tone crept into his voice. "And for you... your face on every skelevision, proclaiming yourself the Pumpkin King. Of Halloween, not the prom."

Ahhh, yes. An excellent future. She turned her head up and nodded, content with how that image played in her own mind. She hedged, trying to think of another question, and came up blank.

The magazine still lay on her chest, but.. it was.. rubbish. Wasn't it?

She picked it up by one corner, tilted her head to look at it surreptitiously, and read a random question from it. She read the question in monotone, not comprehending it exactly until after it was read. What outfit do you think your partner looks hottest in? Uh. Hmm, that might not work.. let's see. What is the sexiest thing I could do right now?

She snorted and dropped the magazine again. This magazine is actually pretty funny.
