"Give me a moment." Kharn leans close to Kai and gets a good whiff of his scent then moves off a ways and starts testing the air with his nose. "You will be difficult to track if you were flying most the time you were here... difficult, but not impossible..." Kharn stats to widen out his search.

"Just stay so the wind dosen't carry your scent back to me and you should be fine. Do you remember which direction you were heading in? That would give us an idea if we have to head deeper in or not..." Kharn continues testing the air.

Kharn simply nods and says,"Do not worry, Kai-friend. We will find the journal of your mother and do not fear for I shall be with you every step of the way."

Kharn starts to go into th forest with Kai thinking to himself,'Yes. Don't be afraid. Some of the things that I can smell as being around here can probably smell fear if you let them. But it won't hel telling him that.' Instead Kharn says,"Let me take the lead, Kai-friend. You tell me if you start to recognize anything."

Kharn moves ahead stealthily and tries to take a path that will make it easier for Kai to navagate. He's ready for a fight if need be.

Kharn smelled the blood. "It's dried up alright but it hasn't been for long." Kharn starts looking around for signs and tracks to read. "The usual kinds of predators and scavengers have been here to check it out but there are older tracks of some kind and they were in pursuit..." Kharn finds some broken branches. "The quarry is wounded and in quite a hurry to get away from the hunters..." Holds up another branch and scowls. "This cut branch and all this scuffed up dirt with back and forth prints by the dried blood right here means they were fighting right here....hmmm...."

Kharn nods and grins wolfishly, "An I'm a fairly good fighter. Plus they'll find it is not wise to hunt a hunter. No, Kai-friend. I think we will at the vey least give a good accounting of ourselves. But the question is to press on, yes? Still we have not found the journal yet. I say I'll not leave here with out it as I know it is important to you and your kin. Fnd it we shall."

Kharn redoubles his efforts and starts to lead them deeper into the dark and gloomy forest.

Kharn nods his head and looks up. The forest is growing very thickly canopied over head and the sky is barely visable at all with no sign of it thining as they go further in.

'Hmmm,' Kharn thinks. 'I hope Kai-friend isn't going to become claustrophobic when he can't see the sky, since he is angel... what is angel anyway? Some bird-person? I've never heard the elders in the pack speak of them...' Shakes his head. 'This is not the time and place for such thoughts. Kai-friend is Kai-friend, that is what is important. Stay alert and keep looking for that journal!'

Kharn catches a trace scent of Kai in front of him leading further into the forest past the dead city. No more ruined buildings lay ahead of them from this point onward.

"Now we're getting somewhere! I've caught a trace of your scent and somethingelse. I think something found your journal and started to carry it away. Maybe to read, maybe to build a nest. I don't know. We must hurry and go deeper after it before we lose it, Kai-friend!", and so saying Kharn starts quickly off deeper into the forest on a course that will take them out of the forest of the dead city.

Kharn is in pursuit of the scent and follows it deeper and deeper into the forest eventually leaving the forest of the city of the dead...
