"Well," Ayame started, face thoughtful and a bit distant as she thought, "It's important to know what one's strength's are when considering training. In a group being drilled it matters little, since you're all pushing to raise a single stat. For example, a strength drill might be a real exercise to some but merely a way to keep in shape for myself. Just like an agility drill would be harder for me."
Ayame's eyes refocused onto Rui's face, and she continued her explantion. "We appear to differ in our strengths. One of us could set a challenge for the other, since I believe I'd excel in anything involving muscle and you in speed, just to raise our individual stats. It would be a one-sided form of exercise, with one of us acting the teacher and forcing the other to keep up by example."
She hoped she was making sense. Ayame had a calm head, but her lack of charisma and social skills kept her from seeking rank.
"Excepting that, we'd have to come up with a clever game in which my strength nor your speed would be an influence. Or, at the least, become equals that give neither of us an advantage over the other."

"I wouldn't mind doing a strength drill. I don't know many routines or drill to train. I had a kit and young adult to chase." He chuckled a bit. "That was my drill."
He stretched out. He wasn't that bad out of shape, maybe this will help him out a little more. "What should we start off with?" He thought of a game they could play later...
Maybe Tag? Where he could be it first and try to catch her. And vis-versa. He looked over at Ayame. He actually was enjoying the calm vixens company.

Ayame gave Rui a critical look-over, trying to assess what would work best for him. "Hmm. A shame you don't have a harness like me. I use it often to pull things behind me as a strength exercise." There was probably some extra equipment back at the tribe base, but it would take awhile to fretch and anyway it might bring up some awkward questions. Rui probably didn't want others to know he was here.
"The simplest I can think of would be pushing things uphill. We just go down a bit further, find something moderately heavy like a log or rock, and just shove it up the hill. Pretty simple, hardest part is just finding something the right size to use." Ayame tended to stash useful rocks or logs all over the places she frequented, in case she did want to practice, but none up here. Hopefully they'd get lucky though and find something that wasn't too big to be immovable or too small that it wasn't worth the time and effort.

Rui thought fir a bit. "Ok, that wil do. I hope you don't pick anything to steep." As for pushing he had an idea.She had a harness and he had is horns. If he lodged a log right it be perfect for him to move it with. Rui looked around for a log, then at Ayame.
"Where are we going to find the things we need to push." Perhaps she knew. He was certain she lived nearby and thus knew the area. He wondered id this was going to kill him.

"First we start further down the mountain," Ayame prompted, already having a system for this kind of thing. "Since we'll be pushing things upward anyway, better to start below. A good branch it harder to find that a good rock, but if we can find a proper log I'd prefer to use those."
Ayame eyes Rui again. "This exercise will be using our chest muscles, to be fair. We push using our chests, and our front legs keep the item from rolling off on us."
She turned, took a few steps in descent, and paused to look over her shoulder to be sure Rui was following.

As Ayame started to walk away Rui followed. He looked up the mountain, then down it. He was thinking about the exersise and thinking of ways he can really do good at it. Maybe... to impress the girl? He shook his head... maybe... Since he wasn't paying attention he tripped over a rock and went tumbling toward Ayame.

Since part of Ayame's sled-pulling training included making sure the sled never fell down mountains or bowled the team over, she was more prepared for what happened next than most other foxes.
She had perhaps a second of warning in which she dug her paws in, though given a choice she'd liked to have been more sure of her footing. No matter, Rui had only stumbled, not fallen.
Ayame didn't even flinch when the male tumbled into her. She held firm, supporting Rui until he got his footing back until him. "You good," she asked, raising an eyebrow and remaining still in case she misjudged how long it took him to reachieve balance.

Once Rui regained his footing her checked himself over. Nothing was wrong, he was fine. He could have been alot worse if Ayame wasn't there. "Yes, Thank you." Hey eyed the vixen breifly. "I'm guessing I should thank your training as well." I slight smirk crossed his face.

Ayame offered Rui a smile. "Training does play a great part into the speed of my reactions. In a group you always have to be aware of your comrades, and prepared to react accordingly and with speed should something happen."
It probably sounded matter-of-fact and simple, but Ayame knew learning to be aware of everyone around you without even thinking about it took a lot of time. It was actually very similar to be a parent with kits poking their noses into things they shouldn't. Ayame'd seen enough of that when their elder had had children!
"If you've ever had to raise a kit, it's a lot like that," she told him, looking at him questioning to see if he understood what she meant.

With a laugh Rui nodded. He knew Exactly what she ment. The snow was different for him. He felt like the heat from his paws would melt the snow, make it melt, then make him slip. Maybe sled foxes are more adapt to this climate. "You seem to have a good grip in the snow. Are your paws different from mine?"

Ayame looked down at her own paws, then at Rui's. "Hmmm. Mine look a bit broader than yours. More to spread out, keeps me on top of the snow rather than punching through. Which I do a lot anyway, since I'm fairly heavy-set with all my muscle," she added, a small smile flashing briefly across her face, a sign of amusement at her own expense, before her expression returned to its normal serious and stolid look.
"I might have thicker fur too. That just adds to the effect of being able to stay on top of the snow. The rest is experiencing, knowing from the feel what's sturdy and what might give out underneath you."

Rui smiled as well. "I see. You are just more adapted to thicker snow than I am." Well his plan to impress Ayame went down the tubes... for now anyway. "Shall we try this training thing again or am I a lost cause?"

Ayame shrugged. "Well we hadn't even properly started, since we still have to find some objects big enough and heavy enough to use in training." She went through her mental inventory of all such objects she knew could be of use from her own previous training, then related them all to her current position. She double-checked her calculations, then nodded in satisfaction.
"You see that tree over there," she said, standing next to Rui and pointing. "It's where the land just starts to slope up a bit, right before another descent. Looks a bit fluffier than all the others trees and it's standing a bit out on it's own. Might have left something there we can use, so how about a race in the meantime? It'll be my knowledge of the land versus your agility."
She tilted her head, waiting for his answer.

Rui grinned. "Fine." He stretched briefly. "Ready... Set.." He took off toward the tree, paws digging into the snow and kicking it up as he darted. "GO!" He paced himself, he knew he had to be careful going up hill going fast in the snow. Didn't need to slip and fall here. He grunted slightly and pushed his speed.

((They're going downhill, not up lol))
Ayame shifted her feet until they went through the light layer of snow, digging her claws into the earth. She needed a firm base to push off from, what with all her heavy muscles to slow her down.
As soon as Rui said go she heaved her powerful legs and barreled forward. Once the momentum faded she'd lose some of her speed, but there was a lot of underbrush that could trip Rui up that Ayame knew ways through. She felt a thrill go through her chest. This was what her kind was bred for, competition. Racing was just so much fun!
