"When I was a hatchling? There were two reasons. To be able to hunt and to fly. That was back then, but it worked to build me up for when I came to the point of wanting to improve myself," Jericho replied while furrowing his brow. While Calder was looking over his arms, he did as well. Speed would seem to be more of the Kelpie's thing rather than raw strength.
"Look, there's more to strength than just what your upper body can do. Sure you can still improve on that but something gives me the feeling that's not really where your strengths lie. Raw power isn't everything. Work with what you're good at and push that even further. I'm not saying to neglect your weaknesses by the way."

Calder rolled his eyes at this little pep talk. "That is all well and lovely, but my opposition has strength, speed, and experience. I can't very well just work on what natural talents when that's going to get surpassed. Unless someone teachers me some magic or I get the strength of ten dragons like yourself..." To which Calder poked the boil's nose before waving is hands about. (He was prone to talking with his hands on almost all occasions.) "....then I'm getting nowhere fast."
"So right now, raw power has to do it." He said, looking at the racks of weights and back at the boil.

It was Jericho's turn to roll his eyes. Calder wasn't quite getting what he was trying to say here.
"Then work harder on your strengths. Personally I think it's better if you can focus on a few aspects of yourself to beat them rather than trying to round out yourself to get squashed on all fronts. If speed is your thing, then it means it takes less to reach that bar. Leave raw power to those who specialize in that. Just because you don't have the strength of a dragon, that doesn't mean your speed can't come in handy," he huffed.
Crossing his arms again, he stared hard at the Kelpie.
"I mean that'd be like me trying to improve my abilities in the water. There's not much of a point in that when I can do so much better working on what I can do in the air, or even on land. But if you're so determined to build up your upper body strength then at least do it right. I'm not just a trainer by name for this club and all."

Wait. That actually made a bit of sense, but - Jericho was being know-it-all-ish and Calder wasn't about to just agree to everything he said. That would be stupid. Nope. He was going to stick to his idea of just getting super strong and that way he could succeed in winning a fight. He was great with running, but he had to learn to punch things and hit hard and all that other stuff that fighters did! Most of the stronger stallions who had been in fights were usually a little more defined in the upper region than most of his kind, and they didn't just know how to kick and buck. They could shift back on two hooves and punch a creature in the jaw that would leave it's mother yowling for a week! He'd seen their drunken brawls before and knew that was just what he had to do.
During all of Jericho's advice, Calder's attention was gripped at the mention of a trainer. "Wait? You'd train me?" But was there a catch? "I don't have to join Fitness for this, right?"

"Man you really have something against the club don't you?" Jericho groaned.
"To use the room, ya gotta be a member. BUT I can still train you. It'll just have to be outside or something. We might not have the weights and stuff but I can still guide you."

This was great! He thought he was in deep trouble and would have to somehow threaten Jericho to hush him up about all of this, but instead he wasn't even being forced into the club and had his very own trainer! What sour expression the kelpie might have had all but vanished as he clapped his hands. "Really?! You'd do that for me?"
"Oh, thank you, Jericho!" He gleed, reaching over to hug the boil as he bounced a bit. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!"

Scratching his head, Jericho let out a sigh, "We're all in this together, like I said."
He took a moment to think. Since Calder was against joining the club, he'd have to meet with him at a different time than when he met with Riyo. That shouldn't be too much of a problem. Though, most likely this meant he shouldn't take on any other people for training. At least there were other trainers that could do that.
Then, all of the sudden, the Kelpie had hugged him, bouncing up and down. Damn he was excited.
"Woah, calm down Calder," he said while carefully pulling him back, "Now what times are you available? So I can figure out some sort of schedule."

Calder was peeled off and stood there, holding his hands to his chest as if letting them loose would mean they would reach out and hug the dragon boil again without a second thought. He still looked giddy, and listened with focused interest at everything Jericho had to say.
"Whenever you want, Jericho. I can wake up early and I can go to bed late. Just not during class time of course. I usually train late at night only because no one else is about and the nocturnies don't bother me by the river, and there are a lot of people jogging about in the AM. I know you have Fitness club too so that might be bad. Whatever time in the evening then. I don't want to be a bother. I'll make whatever you want work." Jericho was offering after all and wasn't even really his friend. People were Amityville were just too kind even when he first thought they might not be.

Holy Jack Calder was incredibly excited now. A part of Jericho had to wonder what he had just gotten himself into, but it was too late to turn back now.
"Alright, evenings it is. We'll meet every other day outside the monster dorms at 7pm. From there, we'll move wherever we need to for that day's training regime. Wear workout clothes and bring water or horrorade or whatever to keep yourself hydrated," he said, "We can begin tomorrow. This'll give me some time to scout out the area and try to figure out what'd work best. But it is possible to increase strength without the use of weights anyway."

Calder nodded, taking everything down. 7pm. Work Clothes. Lots of water. Lots and Lots of water. Wow. They were already setting up a training schedule and so soon! This was much better than hiding out in the woods.
Smiling, he nodded to Jericho. "I know that. You can use rocks." Calder said, matter-o-factly as that was exactly what he had been training with all this time. Rocks and a strong current.

"Well yeah, but I meant there's ways to work out without using anything but your own body. They can be fairly effective. It might take a little more work but they're good to do anyway just in case," Jericho nodded. Rocks could work, but if they couldn't find some good ones, there was at least a backup plan.
Seeing how the kelpie didn't have much of an objection, the dragon slung his bag over his shoulder.
"Alright, since that seems to be taken care of... I'll see you tomorrow night then."

"See you later then, Jer~i~cho.♥ " Calder said with a wave, following the boil out and shutting the door to the club room behind him. This week was going to be an exciting one!
