She was about to raise her hand and knock again, when the door suddenly opened, startling her.
A dashing young man, dressed in fine suit with ruffled collar stared at her, and she could only stare back, all forms of salutation vanishing as she stared at him.
She snapped back to reality as he responded... in a rather displeased voice, and she realized it was probably because she was only staring at him stupidly.
"I-I... I'm sorry, thank you..." she stuttered, lowering her head and stepped inside quickly. Chattering and giggling made her lift her head, and she blinked as she watched the two girls cooking, tossing in spices here and there. A wonderful aroma wafted through the air, making Bella close her eyes and savour the smell. She really was starving.

He shut the door neatly, and stared at her for a moment as she took the environment in...well. He supposed she had been around when he made that proclamation, though he could scarcely imagine why someone like her would be following cultists and murderers, much less still be alive from the experience. Yet, it didn't seem like a suitable time to ask her about the situation, especially with what looked like total blankness in that gaze... a frown, and for the first time, due to a lack of a better topic, he started with formalities.
"What's your name?" he asked, though it sounded more like a very, very reluctant statement.

She flinched and snapped out of her daydream when she heard him address her (or at least she thought it was her, assuming he already knew the name of the two other ladies already).
Flustering, she bowed in apology before mumbling her name, barely audible.
"M-my name is B-Bella... "
She peeked up again to see the man still watching her, and blushed again.
"W-what is your name, if I may ask..."

"Bella." He noted in a manner he thought was fairly neutral, but was honestly tainted by his general displeasure as always. "I am Vlad. And those two -" a sharp jerk of his head towards the pair, "that idiot is Talulah. And that idiot is Estra." Not statements which were very helpful, but Vlad really didn't think introductions warranted much at all.

“We are not!” Talulah retorted loudly, finally turning away from her destruction of the soup. “You’re such a grumpy grump Vlad and you should stop saying mean things.” She admonished him with a waggle of her finger. Tali’s attention then shifted completely to Bella, a wide grin spreading across her face. “Welcome to the party!”

Estra floated over, following Tali's lead. She was much more distracted than the goldfish girl though, and a delighted smile had joined her dreamy expression. "Oh, you are so pretty!" she exclaimed; the newcomer was one of the loveliest book children she had ever seen.

Hearing her name spoken made her blush, and she fidgeted slightly. She directed her attention to where he pointed when he spoke, and blinked as she stared at them. His introduction didn't really help, but she couldn't help but stare at the two beautiful book children before her. He was probably teasing. O-only close friends called each others idiots, right? She stared at the floor.
But then again, it didn't really feel friendly when that bookstore owner called her an idiot the other day... she only dropped one book... A-and bumped into a table... knocking more books over...
She looked up once more when she heard a more cheery voice, and smiled softly, grateful for the invitation.
"T-thank you..." she replied softly. She watched as the other book child followed, long lustrous hair flowing behind her. Her cheeks grew a soft shade of pink again as the feathery girl complimented her, and she bowed her head.
"T-thank you! T-though you're a lot prettier... b-both of you are..."

"Me?!" Estra, who owned no mirror and consequently had very little impression of her visage, said, surprised, "Oh, no no! Tali is very very pretty, but you are so very pretty as well - what beautiful blonde hair you have!" Her own hair was unerringly straight, and, oh, tangled all the time, but the newcomer's curls looked so very luxurious. Her hand crept forward, wanting so much to touch it, but it would be rude, wouldn't it?

“I think…” Tali began loudly, interrupting them both before it became an endless game ‘no, you’re prettier!’. “… that we are all very pretty. Even Vlad thinks so.” Whether Vlad actually thought that or not, Talulah did not know. She just presumed so and smiled at him accordingly. How could he not thing they were all very pretty?
“You can touch her hair if you want.” Tali smiled happily at Estra and did just that to prove it was okay; bouncing forward and reaching out to get a feel of the lovely, soft blonde hair.

Pretty? Vlad was increasingly convinced that there was stupidity in the air, permeating every fibre of anyone present. How was it possible that this Bella lady was as stupid as everyone in this room? Tali's smile at him - an irregular occurance, he was used to her dismissive pouting - ran a chill down his spine; if this stupidity was contagious, didn't it mean his brain was atrophying too? His wing-collar fluffed up irrationally, beating lightly to blow the stupid away. The one thing he was fond of was his mind and he did not relish the thought of it shrivelling under this onslaught.
"Enough," he snapped, irate. "We're not all here for giggles and dinner. We're here to talk about those darn murderers and we should start."

She blushed as the goldfish girl played with her hair - Tali, she assumed, as the book child before her... a dove maybe? addressed the other as so, so she had to be Estra.
Part of her wanted to hide herself, embarrassed at all the attention she was getting, but deep down, she was happy; overjoyed to meet other book children. She couldn't remember the last time she had so much fun meeting others.
Actually... she couldn't remember the last time she had a conversation with someone without it ending off in her making some excuse to leave, or having the other leave due to her inability to answer anything with more than a timid nod.
She jumped as she heard Vlad snapped, and cowered as she looked at looked at him, convinced his outburst was his fault. When WASN'T something her fault?
"S-s-sorry... I-I didn't mean to get carried away. It's just been so long since I've seen other book children and Tali and Estra are so nice and pretty and-" She quickly clamped a hand over her mouth. The irritated expression on his face told her he probably wouldn't want to hear anymore of what she was saying.

The smile dropped from Talulah’s face. She clutched her mysterious cloth wrapped item closer; having not let it go throughout the cooking, grinning and hair touching. “No. I don’t want to.” She turned her back on Vlad; making quite obvious that she was shutting out whatever he had to say. “He’s dead anyway, so we don’t have to talk about it.”
She had almost forgotten that the man that had died in front of her had not been alone at the start. There had been others. That was not something she wanted to remember. Tali had also forgotten that there was no way Estra or Vlad could know what she had been doing the other night. It also had not occurred that his talk of murderers meant she and Faris has not been the only ones out and about getting in trouble.
On a whole Tali had been trying hard not to do any thinking at all and it had mostly worked. Until now.

Maybe the blonde did come that way naturally; her behaviour was, after all, consistent. Vlad's look gave way to exasperation instead, intensifying at the goldfish's petulance...until 'he.'
He's dead anyway. "Talulah." he said in full, authoritatively grasping her arm. "So you saw something." Of all the people, she saw something. There couldn't be a worse person to witness an event so important - then again, two of them were right next to her. In any case, a sense of...not curiousity, but need, had Vlad on the chase. "What did you see, Talulah."

Her eyes widened and she gave Vlad the most pathetic, ‘leave me alone’ look he was ever likely to see. It probably wouldn’t work. The crow had so far been immune to every trick or charm she tried. So there was only one thing for it.
“No.” Talulah shut down completely.

Vlad was, indeed, unmoved by her pleading face, but he was certainly annoyed by her persistent lack of cooperation. "Talulah, this is important business." He stated as his reason to pursue the case, "and you are even more ridiculously unhelpful than usual. You'd think a murder would be something to talk about - I can never shut you up otherwise!"
It was a good thing there were only two other rather hapless girls at the scene; any other person would've pinned him as a bully and pulled him off the goldfish. As it was, he seized her shoulders and shook her strongly. "Talulah!" His eyes darted down to the lump held tight and close - Vlad put two and two together. "So this has something to do with it." He concluded, freeing a hand to grab at the enigmatic item.
