Ridley was rather glad this was going to be an easy process, at least the temporary pass for her to text this whole thing out. Complicated things just sucked and she was thoroughly pleased for simplicity.

"Dodger is our dog," the nine year old explained to Kyndall as Tony went to get the appropriate papers. Her eyes followed as the Corgi bounded up to her happily and presented her with a dog toy, even if she wasn't overly fond of canines the gesture brought a giggle to the little girl. It was cute, and the look on Dogby's face was as well. Ridley reached over to pick up the toy and slide it across the desk to the end of the counter as gently as she could, so it didn't fall off.

"I do have a cat though, her name is Pris!" There was an obvious tone of adoration with that statement.

"She's - oh, hey neat!" What ever she was about to say next was lost when the card was placed in front of her. Grabbing a nearby pen, she dragged the paper closer to her and scribbled on her name where it said to do so and she gleamed. "Awesome! Let's go see some more books!" She turned to Kyndall for this.

So it was definitely cats over dogs. Gotcha. She smiled warmly at Dogby and pet the pup behind her ears. She was very fond of the Corgi and couldn't imagine being nearly as fond of a cat as she was of the animal in front of her. Ah, well, everyone has their own preferences. Kyndall was about to make a comment about Pris, maybe ask a question, when Ridley was off and running with the card Tony set in front of her.

With so much enthusiasm how could she resist?

She smiled at Tony by way of a thank you and gave a little wave to Dogby before leading Ridley back in the direction of the books meant for her age group. She wasn't exactly an employee of the library but she was an ambassador for it and felt it was a good enough institution to volunteer for things like this.

She was patient once they arrived, showing the girl some of the book Harmony liked when she was her age. The Babysitter's Club was a favorite. Roald Dahl was, too. She pointed her in the direction of Matilda or the BFG. Even James and the Giant Peach was worth a read. She'd read it when she was young.

In the end she let Ridley pick what she wanted for herself, following behind to lend support or an opinion but mostly becoming a pack mule if she found enough of what she was looking for. She eventually took a seat at a table and waited for the little girl to finish looking for her books. She didn't mind waiting.

Tony very much liked simple things. He was a fan of that, and he knew the kids he was appealing to did as well. That's why he had made getting them a card as easy as he could, as most wanted to do it on their own and didn't bring their parents with them. Which he found odd.

Why weren't kids these days always with their parents? When he was young, he couldn't get away from his mom. She never let him out of her sight. Maybe because his father was so often gone, she didn't want anything to happen to him and had to keep him on a short leash in an effort to keep him safe.

Of course, it was also a bad example as once he was old enough he had rebelled against them and run away.

So maybe giving kids longer leashes, as it were, was a bit better in the long run. He didn't know, he had never had to raise a child. His son was almost an adult by the time they met.

Dogby scampered away to get the toy, her short legs not taking her very far very quickly. She didn't pick up the toy, though, just running to it then cantering back to Ridley proudly. Dogby hadn't quite mastered the intricacies of fetch just yet.

"Enjoy the rest of your stay," Tony said, nodding his head as they made to leave the desk. He smiled and waved as they head off, then got back to work.

"Thanks!" Ridley replied just as jovially to Tony as she had with many of her responses. Finally claiming the paperwork in her hands, she pulled herself away from the counter - not without giggling at Dogby for her efforts, even if she had totally missed the whole point of fetch - and waved a big goodbye to the librarian as she once against returned to her journey through the library with Kyndall.

They were back in the children's section, with the green haired woman pointing out some classics to the girl. Some of them she actually already owned, either thanks to her own interests or books her brothers had to read when they were her age. And a lot of them were terribly girly and she made it obvious when she made a few faces at some of the suggested titles. Babysitter's Club? Who would want a babysitter's club?

Being left to her own devices finally, Ridley's eyes scanned the books she had been looking at previously, once again running her fingers across the spines. She turned back to Kyndall with a question, "is there a limit on how many I can check out?"

Kyndall was watching her through the stacks, scanning the shelves with interest. It had been a while since Kyndall was attendant on someone so young. She didn't often deal with small children anymore except during story time on Saturday afternoons. She found it enjoyable, still, but a bit tiring. Ridley obviously had a ton of energy and Kyndall was fit but not as young as she used to be.

"I think to start out with you can take home three or four at a time. When you get your parents to send in the paperwork you can check out up to seven."

Still, it was a good amount for a child to read in two weeks all things considered. She used to devour the written word when she was younger to learn all of the mythology and stories she could get her hands on. She was analyzing Shakespeare by the time she was in middle school and memorizing entire plays when she was not much older than that. It seems she was always inclined to be an actress no matter what age she was.

She flipped open a copy of James and the Giant Peach for good measure and began reading. The words came back to her quickly as she read. She remembered being young and reading it to herself. She'd never had the chance to feel like James. She always had Syndall around to keep her company and play games with her. She missed her sister terribly.

"Have you ever read Willy Wonka and the Great Glass Elevator? It's a very funny book."

Ridley nodded as she processed the information, still skimming the books to find something that could possibly interest her. A lot of the books she had seen before, tried or they already owned. And a lot more of them had boring covers or covers she would never get away with reading in her household. True, Max was off to college but a lot of fantasy princess books were usually not safe in a house with two older brothers.

"We read that last year," Or wait, Ridley realized after a moment, "or well, in the second grade. It was really neat and we got to watch the movie. The older one with the snozeberry wallpaper and stuff." It had been different then what she had read, but it was still really fun with the songs and stuff. And still different from the newer one, but she didn't enjoy it as much.

Finally she came across a familiar book, but only for the sake of the title. It obviously had to have been a movie that she knew it from, but Ridley pulled out The Princess Bride from the shelves and glanced at the glossy cover. Sure, it had the word princess in it, but she thought she could recall even her brothers watching something with the same name. Her fingers went to flipping it open, and her eyes narrowed a little at the smaller than usual text. Was this in the right place with such small text?

After a moment, the orange haired girl held the book up to Kyndall, "do you think this one would be okay?"

Kyndall was growing restless while she sat in the chair. Young girls take a long time to decide anything. She'd forgotten that about her own small child since it had been a good long time since Harmony was as young as Ridley. That and she didn't spend a lot of time with Harmony once she had friends and started building a life for herself in and out of school. From the time she could be she was a social butterfly.

When the orange haired girl picked up the Princess Bride she felt a smile tug at the corner of her lips. Books didn't have ratings like movies did and that particular book was probably shelved in an area reserved for older kids in their teens but it was a great favorite of Kyndall's and a wonderful movie besides. She was impressed with that piece of work.

"I think it's a wonderful story but it might be a bit old for you? It's got some themes in it that your parents might not appreciate you being exposed to but it's a wonderfully thrilling book besides."

She paused to consider. Sure it had things like death and torture in it but those things were downplayed by the overt tones of romance and heroism. It wasn't quite the same thing as she wasn't this girl's parent but she stopped to wonder if Harmony was her age would she allow her to read it and the answer was a resounding yes. She felt Harmony was mature enough to handle this story. Ridley, while still very childish at heart which was an admirable quality, was likely able to handle it as well.

"I suppose if you've seen the movie your parents can't mind the themes too much. It's a wonderful book. I own a copy of that and the screenplay at home. Shall we go and check it out with your new library card?"

((P.S. I can't look at your sig without laughing my a** off.))

[ muahaha, it brings a smile to my face as well. Oh Sheldon <3 ]

Ridley had gotten a little worried with Kyndall's initial response. Sure, she could understand if something wasn't appropriate for her; there were a lot of movies she couldn't watch and was ushered out of the room if they came on or the channel would be changed. Or if something her brothers were reading would not be allowed to be passed along with the all time annoying phrase along with it 'not until you're older.'

She made a face, ready to complain when the green haired woman rebuked her decision and offered to take her back to the desk. The smile returned and Ridley was once again excited as she looked at the cover of the book, "it's a fairy tale, what could be so bad about that?" She had to ask; unaware of how dark some were and how mature of content some newer ones were coming out as.

Sure, she hadn't seen all of the movie but bits and pieces she had seen seemed to be right up her alley. Fighting, swordplay and fun. But, it was best not to try and press more into Kyndall probably, least she changed her mind.

"Yeah!" She exclaimed excitedly, a firm nod as she clutched the book with one hand while the other still held the paperwork and her temporary card. With a little bit of a giggle, she nearly dashed back towards the counter where the nice man waited with his dog, ready to check out her new book.
