Jove shook his head, closing his eyes tight, lying down, and going so far as to cover them with his paws. No, no, no! That was terrible, and now he felt all nervous and had stupid little butterflies in his belly again. Ren never did tell him how butterflies would get there in the first place, but they were there, and Jove didn't like it one bit.
Maybe it wasn't something a puppy could do, and he wasn't going to try it again and let her laugh at him. Maybe he didn't have any big howls inside him, just those stupid butterflies. And butterflies didn't howl. He was silly to think he could have made that sort of noise in the first place.

The she-wolf sighed and tried nudging him again, gentle as always. "It wasn't that bad." She said softly, trying to cheer him up over his yip-howl. "It was adorable! Don't hide your eyes." Were all pups like this? Being the second youngest, she didn't know. She had never been afraid to howl. Then again, it came naturally to her it seemed. But LW had confidence in Jove. If only he could give himself a little more. "You won't try, just once more?" She had a feeling the answer would stay 'NO'. Still, she tried. Not very hard though. If he really was that embarrassed by it, she didn't have it in her to force him into it again.
With another sigh, she flopped down and lay partially curled around the poof. "Maybe next time we'll get it." LW said, letting some of the confidence leak into her voice. Rubbing his soft fur in a nuzzle she smiled down at him and looked to the stars and the moon slowly trekking across the sky. "I told you I'd share a secret with you, didn't I? My secret is a wolves lullaby." Breathing in deeply and taking in the relaxing scents of the cool night air and the quiet sounds around them, LW let those soothing feelings roll through her as she gave in to howl a soft song. Something light and gentle, not too loud and nor very deep. A special song only privileged few ever got to hear.

Adorable. Of course. The little pup made a grumbling noise, of course he wasn't going to try again. And there wasn't going to be a next time, he didn't want to do it. Words and sounds were overrated anyway...
Even in spite of his unhappy state, the little pup was comforted by LW's canine gestures of affection. Had he ever had another like himself to sit next to like this, a mother or a father or a big sister? Jove had a big brother, but Ren was more catlike than canine. And he had the foxfires in his room, but they didn't think the way he did, and the way LW did.
With a sigh he let his paws slip from his muzzle, but he made no move to raise his head as LW howled out her secret lullaby. It was softer, even more soothing than the howling before, like the way Ren had sung to him once when he was exhausted and heartsick. He had since tried to mimic those sounds himself, but only when he was alone, and his brother was too caught up in nightmares to really hear him. This lullaby was much more practised and much more beautiful.
The little pup yawned, and let his eyes close as he listened.

She snorted at the grumbling noise he made. One day, she would get him to try howling again. LW was determined to make this happen now. Besides, if he could get his howling down that would be an ego boost for him, wouldn't it? The she-wolf snorted in amusement at this thought. At the very least, it would be something fun she could come out here and do with Jove!
Her howl eventually ended on a soft note, carried off by the night breeze. She still gazed up, very content with just laying there and enjoying the outdoors. Jove seemed to have relaxed while listening, and LW was glad. She had to admit, she was surprised at how much she enjoyed the company of another canine out here. Maybe she needed to drag Jove out with her more often? Or snag Tybalt. Now there was a challenge. She also was quite positive that Tybalt would not howl. Skulls, she'd be lucky if he stayed awake long enough to hear her howl. Maybe a bucket of cold water would be needed.
Looking down at the poof - Jacking adorable - LW nudged him gently, like an older sibling making sure he was comfortable. "Thanks for coming out with me." She said in a soft yet cheerful voice, tail thumping against the ground a few times. "I very much enjoy having company. And you're welcome to join me anytime I come out here." She added.

Jove made a tiny grumbling noise as the howling stopped, and then opened one eye at the nudging. Was she done? Was it time to go back to his room now? The pup didn't feel ready to go back... Aside from the difficulty he would face getting his night clothes and pillow back to his dorm, Jove found himself wanting to listen to more howling.
He found that once he squelched his own desire to make stupid noises at the moon, it gave him a sense of safety and belonging to just curl up there and hear LW sing. It felt natural.
The ghostling lifted his head, just barely revealing his front paws with his thick mane fluff. Ears perked. He could come out with her any time? And listen to more howling? Jove's fluffy tail curled up over his back and wagged a couple times. Yes, he would like to join her again!

She snickered as more grumbling noises were made. Apparently, the she-wolf had found something he enjoyed. Which was both amusing and pleasing at the same time. Who would have thought dragging Jove out here would result in the pup actually liking it? Or rather, liking her howling? LW definitely hadn't. She'd just wanted company out here. Since Austin had chosen not to come. But now, she was glad to have asked Jove. It was one thing having her trusty hazmutt out here with her. Quite another having a friend.
Watching him, her own tail wagging a little, LW got the impression he wasn't ready to leave yet. Well this was just fine by her. The she-wolf still had some energy to waste. Besides, she rather enjoyed being out here in feral form with the pup curled up with her.
"If you are in no hurry to leave..." LW teased, lightly grabbing his tail and tugging gently. "I believe I may just have some howling left in me." Snickering, she went quiet for a moment, thinking, before finding another wolven song to sing. Lifting her head once again, LW began howling another song for the pup. She was perfectly content to lay there, curled with the poof, and howl until neither one of them could stay awake any longer. But until then, she had a few wolven songs in mind she could share with Jove.
