The corners of his mouth twitched into a slight smile. "Thanks... If not for anything more than helping to lift my spirits.." It was then that he came to his full senses and realized that though they'd been conversing all this time, they had yet to exchange names. "I'm Shilo by the way..."

He nodded. "It's brutal the truth some times. But Really... it was something that I needed to hear. Left to my own devices, I'd have probably figured this out when it was all too late. I just hope it isn't already too late as it is.." He shook the thought from his head. "No.. In my heart I know she's just blowing off steam."

Shilo's goofy smile returned. "All I have to do is wait to find her.. She's out there.. Some where. Perhaps ready to see me once more." His short tail bobbed side to side a moment. "Ah well.. I'm sure you've got better things to discuss than this dreary topic." He offered a change of subject so as not to start looping into a slump once more.

Gunkan smiled, "I can talk about whatever you want. I'm just enjoying some adult time while my mate takes care of the foals. We try to give each other a short get away time if we can. Helps keep us sane. Our sons would be just as clumsy as us," he laughed gently.

He chuckled lightly. "Foals can some times be the mirrors of their parents. I know when my girls were little they were fluffy bundles of goofy playfulness. Each trying to master their own goofy grin." He gave a nod to set weight to his words. "Enjoy the time you have with them when they're young. When they get older you seem to see them less. At least it's what I've noticed with my girls.. I see Idonea the most because she decided to stay near the herd after she lost her hearing.. but it never stopped her wandering. Merte on the other hand... She left with her mother. Both I rarely ever see if at all. It's been quite some time since last I saw her." He pondered a moment wondering just how his other daughter was fairing. Did she have a mate? Was she happy? All questions he had no answer for. He didn't even know if he might be a grandfather . His face sunk once more at this, though it didn't last long. Soon the frown of disappointment was washed away and replaced by a smile once more.

Gunkan couldn't help but laugh to, "Children are a delight. Nigiri and Onigiri look as different as night and day, but when they both came into our life...It's one of the most amazing things that has ever happened." He sighed, remembering how they had found the foals. How they had fallen in love at the very first sight of them.
"We weren't sure if we were ready, but when we found Oni...we knew. We made a wish on a star hoping that...maybe we could have a child together Nori and I. And we were given one. We wouldn't change it for the world."
He closed his eyes a minute, "I'm sure they'll come home to you. And I'm sure ours will leave at some time. But as long as they come home...that's what matters right?"

He nodded and chuckled once more. "Too true.. As long as they return.. it doesn't matter how long they stray away from you." He nodded and looked to the horizon. Some day, he thought, some day he'd have to go on another journey to see Merte.. to see ho she's fared and such. But that, that was for another time.. for now. he'd have to keep an eye you for Ali.
Looking back at Gunkan, he smiled once more, a genuine light hearted smile. "Sounds like you and your mate have had a blessed life. To be there side by side and raise your young together.. they should know how lucky they are not to have to grow up in a broken home."

Gunkan smiled, "I think they are. As long as they keep remembering that, we'll be fine. I'm not looking forward to the day if and when they rebel." He chuckled lightly.
It brought sorrow to his heart that he and Nori's children would grow and leave...but it wasn't the end. A family extended like that. They'd have grandchildren...and then great grands. And the family would extend. This was just a beginning. "It's amazing how it starts and how it spreads, is it not?"

Shilo nodded trying not to think upon his daughter's endeavors too much. He wasn't ready to face the fact that they were grown mares, likely seeking their happily ever afters at the side of some stallion. Sure.. they were due some happiness, he just knew with relationships sometimes came heartache, and it was the heartache he wasn't prepared to deal with just yet.

For a few minutes, Gunkan fell silent. He was contemplating the future. There would be more foals hopefully, then their two boys would grow. They'd fall in love--with whoever they wanted--and there would hopefully be grandchildren. But for now it was too much to think about the foals growing.
They'd have to fall in love, and possibly in and out a few times. They'd have to learn to swim, to find food. To a thousand other things that he hadn't though of before until they were old enough to be adults.
He wasn't ready for them to grow up. He felt truly sorry for Shiloh. "I"m sorry, I just...I can't imagine what it will be like when that happens to my mate and I. But who are we to deny them falling in love one day?"

He offered a gentle smile. "The mare I wish to be with.... some day.. hopefully will make all this worthwhile. My fillies are no foals it's true... but some day some smooth talking lad might come along and whisper sweet nothings.. For Idonea.. I suspect it's already happened to her.. I only hope that who ever it is cherishes her. She's not as broken as most might think. She's strong willed and good hearted... Whom ever takes up with her.. I just hope they'll be good to her." He thought about how he'd feel should his daughters have foals of their own some day. "And should they ever be blessed with foals... I wish them all the happiness and luck they can muster."

Gunkan smiled warmly, feeling the other father's pain. "It's harder with girls, isn't it? We want some girls one day too...but at the same time, the prospect is terrifying. We shouldn't want to--but at the same time, it seems girls need to be protected more. It's not right, but I think it's just...that they're different from us so we understand them less and feel for them more." He sighed a bit. "I'm sure she will be cherished. But we all have to make our mistakes."
