Despite his better judgement, when the time on the flyer came around, Davey opened his door and stepped out into the hall. He hadn't seen much of his fellow Hunters since their first mission - okay, he'd been avoiding them. But really, he'd just lost an arm. It was hard to do things, stupid little things that he'd always taking for granted. Tying shoes, getting dressed. He kept moving to pick things up with the lost arm. There'd been no small number of fits of rage when the cost of passing the trials seemed more than it had been worth. Those times passed, of course, but Davey was glad to not have witnesses for them.

Comraderie was important. A unit had to be able to work together. That was what he told himself as he made his way towards the voices down the hall. That was why he was doing this. It had nothing to do with the small smile the flyer had drawn from him when it was slipped under his door, a brief wash of warmth at being included even if he was the resident weirdo.

"Hey," he said as he walked up behind some of the others. He stuck his hand in a deep pocket in his plain cargo pants. He wore a sleeveless hoodie, hood pulled up as it usually was. Screw indoor manners, there were times Davey just wanted to hide himself away a bit. Social, but still protected. "What are you guys talking about?"

Azrael seemed to know. Or, at least, he noticed the presence of other weapons. ~Introduce me, cretin, if you're going to make me associate with such pathetic life forms. They may as well learn the name of their superior right now.~

Davey rolled his eyes. In case anyone could actually see it under his hood, he jerked a finger at the third metal tag around his neck. "Anyone got any tips on weapons that won't shut up? You guys got yours, right?"

He figured that anyone who didn't would have been sent home (or somewhere elsethat wasn't here) by now.

~Introduuuuuce meeeee. You b*****d! Total waste of space! Pathetic excuse for a warrior!

Davey sighed loudly. It was really hard to try and drown out a voice that was in your head to begin with.

"Because sending everyone to Before's room is just as, if not more than, entertaining than you walking around with a toilet paper bow-tie," said Gale idly, absently twisting the silver banded ring around his right index finger. Jinhai had remained studiously silent throughout most of the evening so far, but now he said << You're being quite childish, you realize. >>

"Look who's talking," mumbled Gale, but much to his disgruntlement, the rifle was right. Sitting on the floor of Bix's room while everyone else meandered around outside in the hall was not exactly an ideal situation for making friends.

He gave Cass a wave in greeting, and he'd heard the overly perky Madison arrive, followed by the red haired hunter who's name had escaped Gale yet again. Most of the older hunters hardly paid attention to him (with the exception of Bix, but he was sort of weird anyway, so that didn't really count) so for the time being he had not felt a need to actually do more than work with them. He did not find this particularly disheartening; after all, should he be their age, it would be natural to gravitate towards the ones they knew were similar.

Pushing himself to his feet, Gale ambled out of the room, his hands in his pockets as he peered down the paper-strewn hallway. More people had started to arrive; the babble of voices, laughter, and questions had started to rise, along with the munching and crunching of various snacks. Gale stood awkwardly against the wall outside of Bix's door, arms folded over his chest as he glanced around.

Quite a few doors down, a young man was seated on what looked like a pillow in the middle of his doorway. Figuring oh, what the hell, Gale made his way down the hall and promptly flopped down on the floor across from the young man, whom he recognized from an earlier mission - Jude.

"Yo," he said, lifting his hand in a brief greeting as he tilted his head, a mildly curious expression on his face. "Why're you all the way down here? Party thing not your scene?"

After a moment of awkward indecision - go in and sit down, stand around without anything to do? decisions, decisions - Jordan settled for leaning against the doorframe, where he could see down the hall, too. And also be an obstacle, but that thought came a moment too late, and he'd just look even more awkward if he changed his mind now.

Why are you so nervous? Ferros asked drowsily.

I'm not exactly a party person. Most of the parties he'd attended had been more annoying than fun, with people behaving like morons and using alcohol as an excuse to be pricks. That shouldn't happen here, though. He hoped.

He took his right hand out of his pocket and held it up to show the heavy ring with its red stone. "This's Ferros," he offered in response to the others introducing their weapons. He shook his head to Davey's comment. "Haven't figured out anything. Ferros has interesting ideas about good times for conversation sometimes."

Davey remembered Jordan as a pretty kickass kind of guy from their first training mission. He eyed the ring with interest, wondering what it really was when not in 'hiding'. Something that suited the guy willing to take point to protect others, just like Davey's own poison-tongued blade suited his preference to strike things down quickly and get the mission completed as soon as possible.

"This one's Azrael," he indicated the metal again. Unlike the other two that had name, rank and serial number stamped across this, the newest addition had a stylized sword imprint. Like someone's idea of masculine jewllery or something.

Davey winced as Azrael began a tirade about comparing him to cheap pewter trinkets.

"He, uh, doesn't shut up. Pity they can't talk to each other instead, right?"

Or maybe not, with the loud opinions Azrael had on that idea.

Leon said something about 'palming' his marbles and Bix did a spit take... without the spitting. "Please don't say anything even remoootely perverted!" HIs cheeks were red. "My weapon is a bit .. umm.. forward."

You really know how to soothe my marbles Bixy... Mina purred with delight and caused Bix to choke a bit.

Bix watched Gale slip out of the room to where another door had opened. He couldn't see who it was though, only the feet. He didn't want to leave the crowd at his door though... or did he? Coming up the hall was Soldier Davey, as he referred to him in his head.

Bix looked around, playing with his braid just a bit in nervousness. Was Davey gonna be THAT guy? The guy that rats them out? He seemed like a spoilsport.. one of those 'hey you kids, get off my lawn!' kind of guys. That was his impression after their first couple meetings.

Except it wasn't true this time.

"Hey Daveyeer...id.. David." Was Davey an ok nickname? Bix looked uneasy. He'd yet to have a nice experience with the other hunter. When the other seemed cordial, the albino hunter was struck with surprise.

Huh.

Well, if he could be cool.... than cool! Bix groaned again though. "Ring.. ring.. ring.. necklace... MARBLES?!" This was breaking his heart.

"I'm not so sure about that. It'd give him someone else to bug, but can you imagine the gossip?" Jordan shook his head, wincing a little at the thought. "This guy can hear everything I think, and some of that I'd prefer not to share, y'know?"

Would I do that? Ferros laughed.

"I don't trust you when you're trying to sound innocent," Jordan muttered in response. Then he raised an eyebrow as Bix turned red and sputtered slightly. "I take it that was him. Her?" he added a moment later, remembering suddenly that the bow might be female.

Davey rocked back on his heels. He hadn't considered that at all. "Maybe not, then," he agreed with Jordan.

~As if you've ever had a thought in your head worth repeating~ Azrael sneered. But he did quiet down (for him) now that inflicting the weapons on each other instead of their wielders was off the table.

Someone called his name, sort of, and Davey turned to see. He cocked his head to one side and he took in the albino kid. The one who'd sent the invitations, Davey thought, Bix, right?

His lips twitched. "Davey's fine. No one's called me David since middle school." Since he stopped having teachers, actually. To his friends and family, it had always been Davey. In the army, to his superiors he was Brant, to the other guys in his unit, still just Davey.

Davey's amusement grew as Bix went on a rant about... jewellery? Ah, about the weapons' hidden forms. Touching the item in question, Davey said, "The chain was already there. Technically, he's just a metal tag."

~Just? What do you mean JUST!? I am the -!

With supreme willpower, Davey forced his attention away from the ranting in his head and back to his fellow Hunters.

"Yeah.. it's a girl. Her name is Chi..si..la.. umm I can't pronounce it."

Citlalmina! She purred it in agitation in his mind.

"I call her Mina." He looked at the couple of girls present, Cass and Madison. He didn't want to embarass himself in front of them but he needed to let these guys know.

He motioned for Davey and Jordan to lean in closer so he could talk softly to them, "You ever meet a woman.. or talk to someone over the phone... and they have a super hot sexy voice?" Bix scratched his neck and turned pink again. "You can't imagine the things she says to me sometimes. She totally does it on purpose." He wouldn't admit that he liked the attention on some subconscious level. "It's like having a phone sex operator in your head.. except more mean and without the hot sex part." Thankfully his weapon's affections weren't that aggressive.

Madison hovered awkwardly at the edges of the group. She was used to commanding social situations easily, to being the center of attention or at least close to it, but... the slow realization that all of the others were older was starting to sink in. Bix had a Class of 2008 shirt on, even!

Not that older was bad. Hot college guys were awesome, but she wasn't even a college freshman. She wasn't even a high-school senior, technically. Ugh. A few more of her hopes of being taken seriously deflated, just a little.

Well. Whatever. She wasn't going to skulk around the edges like some antisocial creeper nerd. Instead, she smiled at Davey when he came up. "Hey, how's it going?" she asked, cheerfully. (But hopefully not ditzily, oh god, oh god.)

She made a face at the mention of talkative weapons. "I just ignore him."

Hey!
PostPosted: Thu Aug 25, 2011 9:45 am

Cass seemed more than happy to entertain Leon's question - in fact, she wasn't bothered by it at all. Just all smiles and happiness. SOCIAL LIVING. She was enjoying all of this. "Two part weapon? Man, I'm not sure either. Right now it's kinda awkward because it hurts to swing the one half, but it seems to me like it has it's advantages, and if I save that big ol' blade until I'm in real danger, it really can pack a wallop." She smacked her fist into the palm of her hand with a loud 'slap' sound.

There was a pause before Cass made a face and shook her hand out. Apparently she'd just succeeded in hurting herself again. Whoops! Though it wasn't a bloody nose this time.

"But we'll see how it works out in practical use. I think the push ups will help me be able to carry it better, at the very least." See! She was thinking practically! Like a good girl! Okay, maybe she was just trying to be...somewhat impressive with her goals. ;;;;

"How about you? Are you handling yours any better? It seemed like it was going to run away and kill all the things when I saw it last." Because that chain saw would have killed her own arms to carry at all. It was definitely better a big strong guy got that instead of a flimsy little Cass.

There was a reason Before, despite totally considering Bix as his bestest Bro EVER (to infinity and beyond, and he'll raise that to the power of Chuck Norris if need be), was only just now arriving. He was holding the handwritten flyer like it was an important document that needed to be kept in the pristine condition it was (or as pristine as it could be after he'd accidentally stepped on it) when he found it. Written on his invitation was the room number 104. Despite it supposedly being for Bix's room, which was 114. o.Oa????

Vanna had figured out that the pale-haired Hunter had made a mistake. But rather than telling Before this, she insisted they wait in Before's room for the others to arrive for the so-called party. She didn't want to share her Hunter with anyone else apart from the instructors. They were a necessary discomfort in her plan to monopolize the flail-happy Before.

Eventually, Before figured out the error and promptly delayed his visit some more by being unable to decide what the ******** to wear ;_________; Having learned Bix was the "geek" type, Before wanted to show some solidarity and had dug out his spare clothes. None of them had anything particularly Obscure-Pop-Culture-y about their message or design. They were mostly mainstream and thus Before didn't feel like they were appropriate wear. In the end, he settled for a green shirt which had four humanoid turtles printed on it. The design was faded, a sign of constant use, and had Before not been wearing his uniform's jacket and scarf, the holes in the seems of the shirt's shoulders would be seen.

"BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIX!!!!!!! I AM SO SORRY I'M LATE I-" he abruptly paused mid-apology at the sight of SO MANY PEOPLE. Okay not that many but given that Before had a tendency to exaggerate, well, everything, his mortification levels are nearing critical mass. He swallowed the rest of his yell and as innocently as he could tried to blend into the wall xAx'!!!!!

No, Before, you never were and will never be a very convincing chameleon.

"Before!!" Bix eased out of the small group in his doorway and into the hall where his best bud had arrived. "Ho s**t.. ninja turtles shirt? NICE." He threw his arm around Before's shoulders. He could tell the usually babbling hunter was suddenly tongue tied in the crowd. "Sorry about the screwed up invitation. I made a point not to forget your room number but I did such a good job that I thought it was mine."

He steered Before around to face the group a moment. Seemed like the other was uneasy with crowds and the same could be said for Gale too. He spied him down the hall again, finally identifying the feet as Jude's, and wondered if they were doing anything cool. Close by was Madison, hovering on the edges of the conversation. Bix wasn't playing matchmaker or anything but he did want to try and break down barriers.

"Hey Madison.." He gave a more confident grin (he had his buddy with him!) and tapped her on the shoulder.

"Have you met Before? He's the one always yelling.. but he sacrificed himself for me during our 'podsperience'." Yeah he seriously called it that. "I think he's shyyyy." Nevermind that Before was RIGHT THERE.

Leon was slowly inching his way over to the table with the refreshments and picked up a chip to chew on so the dragon spirit he was bonded with could be sated. "Forward huh? Sorry to hear that. At least your voice isn't trying to make you eat junk food all the time." he replied back with a grimace, mostly to Nidhogg.

"Introduce me meathead, its not just you, ya know."

The boxer rolled his eyes at the whiny response and held up the braided leather necklace on his wrist up to Bix. "And this is Nidhogg, he's a fatass dragon and wanted to say hello to everyone."
"I. am . Fit. You. Neanderthal."
The boxer let out another sigh and picked up another chip to munch on. "You say fit and i say fatass, deal with it." he grunted back before directing his attention to the hunters that were in front of him. "He doesn't hit on me, i think. Just likes to torture me at any time he sees fit."

Cass, he had to admit, had a great weapon, he might have even been a bit jealous of her.
"Uh yeah, I'm right here, in your head, hearing ALL OF THIS YOU JACKING BACKSTABBING BRUTE" rang in his head, and Leon took the time to ignore it. "Well the push up's will help with your upper body, and your stamina, have you given any thought about lifting light weights?" he asked after awhile and averted her gaze at the question about his weapon. "Uh slowly, that whole moment of Nid going berserk was new. Physically its not hard to carry at all." he said clearly, not trying to sound smug about it.

Bix which a chainsaw would have been the funniest sight in the world, he wondered if they could ever hold each others weapon.

Davey's eyes widened under his hoodie as Bix explained just why he kept having blushing and stuttering fits. Trying very hard to not laugh, Davey nodded and said, "Oh. I see. That must be, uh, very hard for you."

He waited to see if Bix realised Davey was actually making a joke. In his head - not Azrael, thank goodness - he could hear the voices of bunkmates shouting out the appropriate response. It was true that Davey didn't have much of a sense of humour, but it would have been impossible to go through army training without picking up on typical male ribbing.

When Madison walked over, Davey relaxed a little. Social situations weren't his forte (even his joke was old and something just picked up from others and used as necessary), so it was reassuring to see someone he'd worked with in the field already.

"Not bad," he answered. "Getting used to a voice in my head. Learning the moves and balance of a new sword. It keeps me busy, at least. You?"

Davey may have had more to re-learn more things than the others, but he was also used to living away from home, in strange new countries and places. Some of the Hunters were younger, probably still in high school. It didn't mean they couldn't kick arse on the field, as Madison had already proven. But it might mean that in the downtime between missions, they were little more... lost.

Azrael, meanwhile, was kicking up a stink about the idea of being ignored. When he moved into personal attacks on the girl who dared to suggest such a thing, Davey frowned and tried 'shoving' his anger at the voice in his head. Mercifully, Azrael quieted with a tinge of surprise and was that fear?

In the quiet, Davey heard one of the other guys say something that made no sense. Turning to Leon, he asked, "Your weapon is a dragon?"

Azrael, of course, hadn't volunteered any more information than he had to. Davey had no clue that his sword had ever been anything other than a particularly loud and bitchy blade.

Cass smiled at Leon's suggestion. "I hadn't really thought about it. I guess I'm just having a difficult time managing to do anything with only my self - " she paused, her brows crinkling today, "and mental-weapon-voice's motivation to keep me going." She laughed a bit, scratching the side of her head. "I know there's a gym around here somewhere, but I haven't actually gone to hunt it down yet."

If prodded further, Cass probably would have graciously admitted it was because she didn't want to be the scrawny weak girl in the room in front of other people.

"Well that's good. I don't think a weapon would choose someone if they couldn't handle them..." though that really begged the question as to why Nicodemus had chosen a weak armed girl with bad aim to deal with a two-hand-hold weapon involving a gun. She really wasn't the best one suited to such a thing. Then again, if she'd ended up with nunchucks or something, she probably would have quit the game and left the building. Or however one aborted the situation.

Good thing she hadn't.

"So you have a dragon? That's pretty neat! I have..uhh.." she paused, making a face and looking up towards her left temple, obviously prying into her head-voice's personal affairs to get an answer. The look on her face after a moment looked like she was trying to stifle laughter. So much laughter.

"His answer is a 'Tonberry'. I.." she snickered a bit. "I don't know if you know what that is but...." she just started laughing. Laughing and wincing. Clearly her laughter was not as funny to Nicodemus who was retaliating against her.
