"Oh," she replied, content with his answer.

Ainsley had gone silent again, looking at her book while the teenager boy referred back to his painting until he gathered her attention again with a question.

"I'm ten!" Ainsley replied to him rather proudly. She had fought to get to the double digits and when she had finally reached it she had been so excited. She had finally become what she imagined as an adult, finally out of those single digit childhood years that had haunted her. It was apparent that as far as she had ever been concerned she went where she wanted when she wanted, which was mostly residual from her mostly independent life prior to coming to Destiny City.

"I think mama is in California and Papa is in New York," she announced to him. "They won't worry!"

So he had been right in his guess, the first one in fact. It really was hard to tell with little kids, like it was hard to guess with teens. It seemed each group was hard to tell, but you knew what group a person belonged to for the most part. After all...there were exceptions to all things.

So her parents were away, and she was ten and out on her own. Some how that may not worry them but it worried him. He knew what sorts of people were out there, he knew the Negaverse took energy - he took energy. Hopefully she didn't go out at night, and if she did he hoped she wouldn't be grabbed by someone. It wasn't that he viewed it as wrong, it was simply a matter of borrowing energy to put to a good use. It was just that such a thing could be traumatic for a child and they were innocent and should in all ways be left out of this war, even if it seemed those guardian cats had decided it was ok to bring children into the war as senshi. A matter he couldn't see in any way other than tragic and completely careless on the part of the cats.

That aside though he flashed her a bit more of a smile. "I see, so who watches you when your parents aren't around?" Mild concern, and curiosity, colored his voice as he questioned the small child.

The young man probably would have had a heart attack if he knew the truth that Ainsley went out at night more than they probably should but if he knew the reason why she did then he'd probably just fall into a coma of deep sleep that wasn't Hypnos' doing. Although Ainsley didn't see the problem with her other identity, it seemed to surprise everyone else and cause them great grief. The reality was unsettling and secret identities protected what little safety there may have been between the corresponding forces. Thankfully the truth was unseen and their lovely conversation didn't have to end nor did they have have to be in danger because of it.

She looked at him when he countered her with the question about who watched her. It was a curious question because Ainsley liked to think that Octavian Oswald watched her as well so instead of saying who watched over her in her parent's absence, instead she defined it.

"I live with my sister Bell," she said.

After the shock wore off he'd of course demand to know why she was out at such hours of the night. Were to find out it might not be a matter of falling into a coma but rather a matter of convincing her not to fight, that a child so young should not be involved in such things. It was how he was, he didn't think the chibi senshi should be involved in fighting. The risk of them seeing things which no child, especially one as young as them, was higher then he cared for. But with those other lives, other selves, being secret it allowed them to converse and him to be completely unaware of the child's other half.

Were she to find out about him it was a wonder what she would do as well.

Nodding, pleased with the answer, making the logical conclusion that her sister watched her. What else could he expect given the answer she'd provided? He wasn't about to think of a stuffed animal, that was for sure. "Bell, is that short for another name?" Not to say it wasn't possible for Bell to be her name, it was in fact a nice name, but Bell could be short for Bella, or Belladonna, maybe even Isabella. It was just a minor curiosity, but one he didn't mind asking as way of keeping the conversation going.

Bell had introduced herself as Bell and everyone called Bell exactly that. She didn't know that her name was short for Belladonna, and she'd never even considered it. Bell was Bell like Ainsley was Ainsley. It was probably a good thing she didn't know that because given the opportunity of using the proper name, Ainsley probably would be calling her sister Belladonna and be frustrating her to no end over something that wouldn't be worth it.

"Just Bell," she said with a smile. "Isn't it pretty?"

"It is pretty." A nod from the blond as he painted slowly, not wanting to get too caught up in painting, or the conversation, and neglect the other. Bell was certainly a nice name, short and sweet.

"Tell me, what do you like to do with your free time, aside from reading? Do you have a lot of friends you spend time with?" He hadn't had a lot of friends himself, but he had gone out with his mother a lot. He did shopping with her all the time. It had become a tradition, even now, that a month into the school year, the first weekend in October, to go out together and purchase mum's. It didn't matter what else they were doing, everything got set aside, the day was made open if it had been filled. It was a mother and son day at the various nursery's picking up Mum's in time for Halloween, pumpkins were also picked that day and corn. It was the day that the more traditional Halloween decorations were purchased. Last year they'd gone rolling around in a hay field, it had started out innocently enough with his mother sticking hay down his back. His childhood had been spent mostly with his mother and doing things with her, she was the cause for who he was now, more so than his father.

Ainsley was friendly, and although she considered herself to have a lot of friends, she didn't really do much in terms of activities with them. It wasn't that she didn't like to do things with them but when adventure called: Ainsley went running. She usually didn't think important things though and often found herself in quite the pickle but in the end she was happy just feeling the wind in her hair and seeing where her feet brought her. In terms of activities though, Ainsley really loved to learn new words. Did the Word of the Day calendar she got count?

"My friends don't like to read as much as I do but it's still nice to see them. On my own I really like to learn new words though," she said, thinking about what today's word was. "Today's word was... sub... ser... vi... ent... subservient." She paused just long enough to contemplate whether or not she said the word right before she looked at him and then after she decided she had, she continued on. "Are you subservient?"

So she liked to read and learn, and learning such words. It wasn't the word but rather the fact not many children her age would learn such a big word. It was impressive and had him smiling at the child. She was impressive and not like most children, at least when he thought back to when he'd gone to Knightside and his fellow classmates. Some were...well less than intelligent. He'd had a cubbie partner who liked to chew on pencils and eat the erasers off them. He had been disgusting, someone he'd avoided ever asking to borrow anything from.

"That's a shame. If your friends liked to read as much as you did that could turn in to a fun little club." Like the book club he was working toward getting off the ground but it was hard. He hadn't been in touch with Christa recently, he really needed to change that.He had a lot to do, to work through slowly.

"I am, I think everyone is to certain people. Since it means to be subordinate to someone else and aren't we all to our parents, teachers, and other people?" And higher ranked officers. "So yes, I am. I do submit to others and do as they tell me to. What about you?" Even though he knew the answer he asked anyway.

Ainsley liked to think that she listened well to her elders and did as they asked but when it came to most things she tended to do what she wanted. She didn't tend to do what people said, often disagreeing with how they felt. Unlike many senshi, she didn't like to dust youma and instead she wanted to find alternative ways to dealing with the beasts. She looked at them the same way she looked at animals, using the logic that just because there is a wild animal running around causing havoc, it doesn't give you the right to just kill it when there are other means!

"I am not sure," she replied. "It's complicated! I want to be a good girl though and I want my mother and father to be proud. I don't want to disappoint them but what if we do not see eye to eye? Should I change my heart to make them happy?" It was really a question that reflected a lot. Should she just sit inside and do nothing when she had the power to change things?

"That is quite to problem isn't it. The only solution, aside from out right doing as you want and upsetting them, would be to talk to them in a mature way. Give them your reasons for your opinion and choice and ask them to do the same. Sometimes we don't always see why someone tells us to do something, and they don't always think to give us the reason. And perhaps you can keep your opinion but act on a middle ground?" He offered.

"I think, I know if I were a parent, I'd be proud if I had a child who came to me and spoke to me in such a way. So perhaps discussing things with your parents, in a thought out and calm way, would help? I can't say for sure as I don't know them. But I don't think a person should change their heart, but perhaps learn to act in a way which pleases both enough that both parties are content." Did that make sense? He did hope so. It was the best he could think of for an answer, it was a mature question of hers and her opinion.

Ainsley remained silent for most of it, giving small noises in reply as well as nodding her head to him frequently to verify that she was listening to him.

It was hard to see eye to eye with others when you were much shorter than they were and were frequently looked down upon for your age. She was called foolish for her beliefs and even Bell, who was also a senshi, didn't exactly see eye to eye with her. Their views on youma among other things were so different but then again her views on the matter were different from all of the normal beliefs that she had come across on the matter. She didn't know, and she certainly wasn't going to get any closer to finding out sitting here.

"Maybe," she said. It was just so complicated and it wasn't something she could talk to him about. "Thank you for everything but I should be heading back home. Truly, good luck with your painting."

She gave a small bow, collected herself and her items and then she headed off. There was just too much to think about.
