“My eldest sister,” Arctic replied, “We were close once.” Looking over what she had brought he nearly cheered aloud. It looked like she had included some oats, his favorite next to trail mix. The dried fruit was surprisingly good. He needed to remember to bring some to give to Chayse.
Taking a bite of the oats he purred in happiness. Snagging another apple he laid down next to her.

"Oh you have more siblings? How many do you have?" she asked, a little astonished she hadn't learned this before now. She leaned her head over his back, drinking in his smell. She gave an audible sigh and relished in her happiness.

Arctic opened his mouth to replay then closed it, a startled look on his face. He'd been without contact with his family for so long he had no idea if there had been any deaths or births. The realization of just what his exile meant was just now hitting him even though it had been years since he left. He was certain that Frost would have mentioned if anything had happened to any of his bothers or sisters so pushed the worry to the back of his mind for now.
"Eight siblings, that I know of. I've never known my father so I could have others."

She kept her eyes closed, relaxed and happy. She focused on his voice and what he was saying. "Eight siblings? Wow, such a large family you have." she said. "And in our time together, I've never known this nor met any of them. That's sort of sad, but perhaps I will one day?" she said hopefully. "I would love for our children and grandchildren to know your family as well."
This conversation got her to thinking about her own family. She hadn't seen them in such a long time, she wasn't sure what had become of them. She left home at a young age, not long after having come into adulthood. Her mother was still young then, and quite possibly could have had more children. She had left because her father was such a controlling stallion. She couldn't stand living under his hoof. She sighed heavily and brought her thoughts back to the present. "I doubt they will ever get to meet my family. I don't even know where they are or if they're even still alive..." she trailed off, her voice sad. "Nor do I care." The last bit sounded cold, even to her, but she really didn't care. It had been so long since she had cared about them that it didn't phase her. She had her own family to focus on now.

Arctic nuzzled her lovingly. "It seems we had completely different foalhoods. I hope our children know they are loved, I hated the uncertainty of never knowing where I stood with my mother, it wasn't until I was older that I realized I was the favorite son." There was much about his family he hadn't told Chayse, he hoped that when Artemisia arrived everything went well.

She returned his loving gesture. "It's fine. I'm over it and focusing on the here and now. The you and me, and our wonderful children. Speaking of which, I suppose we should let them know about our long awaited bethroval." She smiled at him and sat back up. "After we finish this scrumptious lunch of course," she said as she reached for some fruit. They spent the rest of the day enjoying their time together and talking about this and that, both so excited about their engagement. [FIN]
