“It was a purely civilian joke.” He said waving his hand as though to brush away the failed attempt at humor. “Where does she work again?” He rested his chin on his hand as he waited for an answer. All things considered he might well know, but there were distinctly times that he didn’t.

"Well... The height makes me looks younger than I am anyway." He muttered, slightly annoyed.
Good thing he hadn't noticed Zac's extra inch yet. He might have hidden under a rock and never come out.
"She works at a little diner near the arcade. Food's pretty good." But then, Matthew was more or less a garbage disposal. As long as it wasn't spicy and not coffee, down the hatch it went.
Neither Desmond children had ever been too picky with food.

“I don’t suppose it’s an all night diner, those are always useful the way we’re living.” He said with an amused look in his eyes. There was something nice about being able to get the meal you wanted when you were ready for it rather than trying to eat a ‘dinner’ when it felt more like breakfast. He should be trying to save his funds but he liked to ‘treat’ himself on occasion. Though perhaps he did ‘treat’ himself and others more often than he should with ‘liberated’ funds. Regardless of how other’s felt about it, it was an excellent ‘cover’ for why people were unconscious.

"It is, through she doesn't work nights since school started." They wouldn't let her, and well... there was that unspoken 'she's patrolling anyway' that floated in Matthew's silence.
"So if you want to catch her, try right after school." He shrugged. "But yeah, I drop by there a lot. They don't ask questions either, which is nice."

“I’ll do that.” He nodded considering. “And I’ll keep the nights in mind as well, nice to have that kind of option. Was there anything else? I should probably go soon, too much to do and too little time.” He quirked a small smile.

"Yeah... pretty sure I have a project due for a client in a day or two... Almost done but..."
But he hadn't worked on it lately, was the unsaid thing. Other things on his mind, really, but he felt a little better now, at least.
He let his cup clatter on the table more loudly than necessarily, in hope that it would lure the waitress their way so he could pay and they could get going.

She arrived again and took payments and offered receipts before wandering away again to another table for another tip. Amazing how very normal the world of Destiny city could look before you scratched the surface of it with your fingernail.
Small wonder that many of the civilians regarded both sides of the battle as terrorists, they had the gal to cause great upheaval to the textbook lives.
