Tundu turned slightly so that she could glance at Hima, her eyes pleading with the little lioness to keep silent. It would be so easy for the hyena pups to run off and tell a much bigger and meaner hyena that the lioncub captive was being mean and evil. Tundu wouldn't put it past Kombe to fudge the truth in order to achieve what he desired, and if he desired that the cub be killed, Tundu knew he could make it happen.
Tundu could not understand how such rampant hatred could be encouraged. Hima, Kombe, Kisukuku. All of them, and justly so, harbored fear for the opposite species. They had all lost a loved one, and Tundu was saddened.
She did fall silent, though. With her luck she would push Kombe too hard and he would be furious and then she would be in trouble.
"You should go back, Kombe. Kisukuku is right." She tired of the tension that simmered between the pups and the cub, and she did not want to escalate it into something more.

Kombe laughed. "You might not plan on staying, but I think Auntie and the others have other plans for you. You're awfully small and alone and away from home." Kombe grinned nastily at the little thing. Serves her right for getting captured. That will show lions to kill hyena moms.
"Alright, Tundu, we'll go. I'm sure Auntie will want to know she was right about all lions being mean and vicious. Wait till she hear's that this one is scaring Kisu!"

Hima was too furious at the hyena. Even though Tundu silently urged her to be passive and calm down, the girl couldn't help but be upset. 'Fat Nose' knew how to push her buttons, and the little feline fumed in anger. "I plan on leaving!" Hima snapped back, not even bothering to think things through. Certainly not the wisest idea to go proclaiming her intense passion on being freed of this place.
"This place is awful!" She spoke through a roar. What Tundu was trying so desperately to keep from happening still ended up. With an angry lion cub snarling at the two tiny captors. "And you ought to be scared of us!" Hima hissed after Kombe's comment, "Th-they'll come for me! My family! Then y-you'll be sorry! All of you!" The female stuttered as she screamed, shivering from the adrenaline rush which was spiking.
But of course the cub wasn't thinking. This wasn't the wisest course of action to take. But she picked her fate. No matter how much Tundu tried to protect her... Hima refused to remain passive and contained. Forgetting that survival comes before pride.

Kisukuku stared at Tundu and at the lion cub for a long moment, and she lowered her head, frowning. She didn't claim to understand much of this mess, and she wasn't really sure that all lions were evil - certainly the one that killed her mother, but all of them? But this cub sure seemed to think that all hyenas were bad. And Kisukuku didn't feel like one of the bad guys. If anything, she felt overwhelmed by the way the world was continuing to shift, and fairly certain that it was never going to be right again.
"Both sides will be hurt if your family comes. You really are evil if you'd want them to risk hurting just for you," she said, her green eyes hard and she swallowed and showed some backbone for the first time during the entire encounter. "If it meant my family stayed safe, I would be quiet and do what I was told."
Just as suddenly as it had come, her moment of bravery fled, and Kisukuku darted behind Kombe, seeing her braver sibling as a sort of shelter from her own words.

Tundu wasn't sure what to do, but she was certain that the situation was soon going to escalate beyond her control. She couldn't expect Hima to understand the dire need to watch her tongue, and she couldn't expect Hima to understand what she might've just set into motion. Tundu couldn't protect the lion babe if Kombe decided to feel threatened and sent a group of hyena after them.
Tundu would, however, give her life for the cub if need be.
She let Hima explode but kept her eyes on Kombe. If the hyena decided to run and notify adults, Tundu would take Hima and hide. It was the only thing she could think to do.

"Apparently lions don't care who gets hurt as long as they get what they want. Come on, Kisu, we had better go tell the guards to keep an eye on the baby lion and her nanny, since she thinks she's going to get away. Auntie would really be upset then."
Kombe went low to the ground to whisper something at the little cub.
"And you should know if you try to run away, Tundu'll be the one to get punished. So if you're really as evil as my sister thinks, go ahead and run. Otherwise, your're only friend's going to be in trouble."
With a nasty smile, Kombe turned around and started hustling Kisu away from the den. The sooner she was away, the sooner she could go crying to her granddad and Kombe could find some real fun.
