"I mean, when did you get it? Where?" His mouth shifted, and then so did he; between tossing the starseed into the air and catching it again, he went from Ever to Ilmenite, tucking it away into one of his jacket pockets for safe storage. If he was going to need it, he'd need it in that shape, instead of this one. He didn't meet Zink's eyes as he changed back.
"Whose was it?"

"The First run in with the Blood Moon Court..." He said watching Ever shift between 'himself' and Ilmenite. Not meeting his eyes, why was that? He couldn’t begin to be sure how he should feel right now; guilty or judging… who could say. “It belonged to a ‘charming’ young woman who was lying in wait trying to put my head through the floor when I happened upon the floor trap. Just before I came back to find people thinking they were… pokemon apparently.”
He was fairly certain that was the right order of events, but to be honest many parts of that day were tremendously overshadowed by others, like the bodies of their dead comrades, like finding Uranophane.

"...oh. I remember that." But only vaguely. Ever went to dig the heels of his hands into his eyes, got palms against his face -- and froze, because that hurt like a son of a b***h. It felt like getting punched in the eye for a second time, and damn but he should have thought before touching anything. At least he hadn't been hauled off like Uranophane and stuck in some small room somewhere...
"...you don't need it?" A useless question, as it was already tucked away into the pocket of his uniform pants, saved for later use. It was a courtesy question, asked dully and without enthusiasm.

“No… No I’m ok right now, if I needed one I’m sure someone would offer” He gave a small shrug trying to seem casual. Truth was he wasn’t fond of eating something that came from such an intimate place of a total stranger. Not that eating one that came from a comrade in arms sounded much better.
Truth be told if he needed to desperately there was still one more tucked away, but it wasn’t going anywhere unless he –had- to use it for something.

Not a word in reply, and the silence between them was awkward. Usually, Ever would fill it with some offhanded comment designed to make Zac twitch or blush. Usually he'd do something uncomfortable but friendly, something open. Usually he'd grin and wink and shrug it off.
But he just wasn't in the mood.
It hurt to talk because it hurt to move his face, and smiling was absolutely out of the question even if he'd wanted to. He closed his eyes for a moment, thinking about it, his mouth dry and his brains rattling around in his skull, ignoring the fidgety quiet between them that went on for far too long.
"...should go home. Take a shower."

It felt like nothing was working, what else was there to say… what else could they do but nod and hope that the distance passed. He folded his arms, more hugging himself than taking the offensive or offended poise that he more often did. “…Yeah… okay.” He nodded. On the desk his ‘work’ phone buzzed, an incoming message, fortunately not a call and he stared at it like he might lock it in a drawer, or crack it off a wall just to silence it. God knew he wanted nothing to do with questions right now.
“… Hope you feel better.” He said leaning against the cupboard not sure what else to do. Somehow ‘manly hugs’ just didn’t quite cut it.

Ever shrugged at that, but at least managed to bite down on the 'not likely' reply he wanted to offer. That wasn't fair to Zac, nor would it actually make him feel any better, either. He shifted, considered, then slid off the bed to grab his shoes, instead. This wasn't like him, and hopefully Zac would recognize that, at least.
"Talk to you later." He didn't wait for a reply. Instead, bad of an idea as it was, he went back into uniform to teleport from the room. He'd probably about pass out on the other end, but there was no chance in hell he was going to try walking.

Gone, just like that… and he didn’t know what he’d done wrong. He rubbed his eyes and glanced down at the phone message, sighed and put it in his pocket. “… It’s going to be, such a long night.” He said to the open air, or perhaps to the aged plush panda that sat tucked in a corner of his bed half hidden in a sweatshirt.
He grabbed his jacket and slipped it on before powering up to take the ‘easy’ way closer to where he was to meet the texting party. It was going to be a long night indeed.
