'Don't-know-as-much-as-Mal', He sighed, looking increasingly flustered the more Barth stared. Sweat had already begun building on his forehead. He cleared his throat and raised his hands again, 'Only-know-what-goes-where. And-ripeness.'

"...Practical knowledge. You don't have to trivialize it. I just didn't realize you were so interested- well, I knew about your project with the Lepus parts...."
Christof was nervous, Barth noticed. It was making him nervous.
"We can go get the mobile if you like."

He nodded eagerly, already side-stepping towards the door before doubling back for his tool box.

"Do you err, mind getting the stair climber too?" Barth asked. "It's this thing right here outside the door."

The hunchback paused, blinking down at the device. He couldn't help but softly smile as he hefted it up under an arm.
It wasn't long before they had relocated to a safe distance from the dorms, although it would have taken less time if Barth had walked and not ridden in the Doom Buggy as Christof pushed it into position. The grass needed cutting, but the wheels should handle it well enough- or at least the patchwork hoped so.

Once they (or rather Christof) had relocated the Doom Buggy to somewhere that an explosion would not cause...extensive damage, Barth gripped the wheel. He'd had plenty of time to get acclimated to the new device, and to add more comfortable upholstry. Creature Feature was many Semesters ago, his designs ever-slow to come to fruition, but in this case speeded by Christof's work over the period he had spent off-campus.
It came down to this.
The key was already in the ignition. Barth just had to start it. Very slowly, he reached to turn it.
With one movement of his wrist, the engine...made an unhappy sputtering noise. Barth tried again. Same result.
"I err...I should recheck the engine," Barth said.

The Igor had stood by eagerly as Barth had slowly situated, but that look of excitement soon digressed into anxiety again as the engine refused to turn over. But... but no, It was working before! Ooooh~
Before Barth could even rise to his feet, Christof had run around to pull open the panel that just barely shielded the engine from view, desperately checking each Part and Piece... it was all there! But why wasn't it *working*?

Barth made his way to the engine eventually, claws inventorying the pieces too. This was in place, that looked familiar, that...maybe a little unsafe, but nothing to stop it from working, in theory. The construction was decidedly patchworked, and not quite right had been addressed with ingenuity. Still... now that he was looking at it there were some ways the engine could be more...well, elegant. Efficiency meant less work with more result. He wasn't sure if this part was really needed, and with a connection there- he probably should have concentrated less on the seating and more on whether the buggy worked.
"Ah. Maybe if- Help me get my coat off, please."

Christof gave a whine, shuffling around to take the Sloth's coat from his shoulders, draping it over one arm as he signed, 'Did-best-I-could. Not-sure-why-no-work! Had-to-improvise-much.'

Barth watched him, then turned back to the motor.
"It looks good. I'm just going to fiddle a bit."
Right, that part there looked alright but if it was reconnected- and maybe these wires...
"Listen, did you...end up signing that waiver? For the field trips."

"Mmmm," Christof nodded, huddling down to watch the Sloth's slow rewiring. He had already survived two field trips, he hadn't seen the harm in testing fate further.

"Even after- but you hated Christmas Town. ...And the last one, well. It's just that so far these things have been manadory, and they've all ended up awfully, and with a lot of walking and dying and going mad."
Barth continued to rewire.
"You don't think it would be...unslothly of me? To sign it?"

Unslothly? Christof glanced up from the engine to give the demon a look. Well. He was a very good Sloth, that was for sure. He shrugged, rubbing his nose and leaving a line of black grease before signing, 'Better-to-die-honorably-learning-than-on-the-dissection-table.' Honestly... what did he have to lose? 'Was-horrible-yes. But-more-horrible-to-be-a-coward.'

"If I went, it certainly wouldn't be with the intention of dying. It's just if I can't handle these outings with the rest of the school as back up, I don't think that alone- that is, if someone or something... I'm not a strictly physical sort, and it's not like I want to spend the rest of my life clawing at robots and ninjas. I've got better control of my Fear now. But my career plans aren't soldier."
Field trips wouldn't be the last time he'd be dealing with threats on his life. And they wouldn't all be general dangers, or clumsy murder plots.
"Being alive at all, that's what matters to me. That's what should matter to you, too. Don't get yourself killed on account of..." he stopped himself from saying her. "bravery."

Christof merely shrugged, poking through the engine before letting Barth take over the tricky wiring.
