Antallian got the idea that Xerxes was thinking hard about his last question. Whatever tie was between the two, it seemed to be incredibly strong on the male's end. Hence the white lion was a bit surprised by the response he got. After a moment of reflection, he supposed it was reasonable. Strong feelings, unconfirmed love, it was enough to confuse anybody. He wondered idly if the red lion was older or yournger than he himself. He certainly felt older.
"Not a bad thing, not knowin'," he commented after a long pause. Bauble gave the other male a crooked grin and a knowing look. "But you might want t'be thinkin' o' somethin' - seein' as you'll be seein' her within the next couple days."
Why else walk with Xerxes like this, if he wasn't going to lead the other lion right where he wanted to go? Antallian just hadn't wanted to mention it. He and Buni might not've hit it off right away, but any friend of Ina's was a friend of his. He could also tell that the red lion had some strong feelings towards Buni and Bauble was a friendly sort, always happy to help someone out.
He just did it with his own personal twist. No one had killed him for it yet, right?

The awkwardness of the pauses and the uncertainty of the whole conversation was making Xerxes uneasy, which only agitated him more. He was practically chanting in his mind to be patient when An said he would see Buni within the next couple of days and suddenly his ears perked up and he looked surprised again.
"A couple days?"
She had been here recently and Antallian actually was going to direct him. He looked around them very suddenly- was this why they had been walking?

Bauble managed to contain his mirth as the red lion finally seemed to put two and two together. It was highly entertaining though, and he was pleased by the reaction.
"Well a'course," he replied cheerfully. "She did leave us several more days ago than that, but seems t'me that none o' you pride lions are partikalarly good at findin' yer way out here." He didn't point out that when Ina had brought Buni home, the latter lioness hadn't been pleased to find out she was still within the range the two hunted. Bauble and Spina had wisely remained silent on the subject of her sense of direction.
Still, An couldn't resist a slight jibe. It was part of his nature.
"But I'm thinkin' that if'n you keep on this course fer another day or two, you'll come awfully close to wherever she is." He thought about adding the fact that no one, not even Bunikee, knew where she was going, but decided against it.

Xerxes no longer cared what Antallian suggested about the sense of direction in pride lions, Buni had come here and gone off in this direction.. and An still seemed to think it could be no time before she could be found. That was all that mattered.
"Thank you," he said, uncharacteristically grateful despite himself. He wasn't intent on sticking around for more teasing, though, and he wasn't very good at wrapping up conversations politely anyway so he started off where Antallian had indicated without another word and at a rather eager pace.

The white lion kept his pace steady though the red lion was beginning to outdistance him. He considered whether or not he should try to offer further guidance, but concluded that the red male wouldn't know any of the indicators...if he eve recognized the different folds of the land and rock formations as such.
"Yer welcome, Xerxes!" Bauble called after him. "If'n you get lost, jest come back an' we'll set you straight!"
It was the least he could do for possibly unrequited love. Damn he'd love to see how this all turned out.
Antallian finally stopped moving forward, then turned around and headed for home at a significantly faster pace than he'd used while traveling with Xerxes. Wait 'til he told Ina about this! Hopefully she wouldn't scratch him.
