Mot smirked in delight. His name calling was getting under the poor ghoul's skin, and he found that to be most amusing. It didn't feel like bullying when they fought back like this. The ghoul had a lot of bite and sass. That's what made this fun. Making a ghoul cry was not his idea of fun, but an exchange of sass definitely was!

Mot listened quietly to Riyo's story, liking that he had somehow gotten her to talk a little more about herself, but at the same time he was looking for ways to tease her. "Ooh, waste of time, huh? I don't know. Imagination can be a dangerous weapon, and fiction is a great way to feed it." He was completely bullshitting what he was saying, but it did not make it false. Still, he only read fiction because it was fun. "That and it sure beats listening to the creakiness of an empty house, right? Books on pocket lint won't fill the void like a good novel will."

Dangerous weapon. Please... Riyo couldn't help but roll her focused eyes at that comment. To her, an imagination was about as dangerous as a wet newspaper. A focused mind. Now that was dangerous...

Though, so too could an unfocused mind be. There was one case she recalled in particular...

"... Filling the void, huh?" His ending comment changed her train of thought, making her eyebrows furrow. "Who's to say it fills a void?" The feline's crimson eyes looked up at Mot with a mild anger tucked behind them. "I would say it creates a new one. I think such fantasies are cruel to children. Dressing the world as a werewolf in sheep's clothing. Trying to convince them that great adventure awaits their future when there is nothing but pain and mediocrity. It makes you want something you'll never have."

What a Debbie downer... Though the tone of her voice suggested it was a subject she felt very serious about.

Even if she did read fiction in secret... It was that starving child again, still waiting patiently for something to change. For some kind of adventure to break the tedium. Novels managed to shut it up for a short time. "Have you ever been disappointed that the world doesn't match your fantasy books, Mot?"

Riyo's rant certainly would put a damper on the situation, and for the most part it did bring the cowboil down. However, Mot saw this as another gateway into the facts that made up Riyo. Learning about her might help him get her to play nice. Slowly but surely.
She seemed almost sad inside, from what he could see. Sad and lonely. Disappointed in what the world has thrown at her. Much like a tragic figure in a sad story book. One that needed someone to light the way!

What a sap he was.

Mot considered Riyo's question for a moment before replying. "Nope." He said confidently. "I make my own adventure. If the world seems like it's trapping me, I simply work to find a way to break free."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2011 7:29 pm

"Of course you do." Riyo sighed and looked back to the books. Ah, there it was. "You know, not every situation has a third 'run away' option. Sometimes it's either do what you don't want to, or die." Removing Advanced Music Theory from the shelf, the feline stood and flipped through the pages, much like she had done with the one tucked under her arm. "Running away from problems is cowardly anyways.." Which is why she didn't. Pride. Pride kept her in that room where her mother once sat. Pride kept her doing the same tedious tasks. Pride kept her hollow on the inside.

"What kind of adventures have you really experienced, anyways?" Jumping over a really big puddle? Shooing an angry looking dog away? Asking a ghoul to go out with him? "I'm just dying to hear how exciting your life is." Ah, sarcasm. What a fine tool of spite you were.

Shutting the book, Riyo moved towards the counter, but not before giving the fiction section a glance. Well, there was always another day if boils weren't stalking her... Oh, who was she kidding? There was always one or two around to rain on her parade...

Karma had a sly way of punishing Mot for picking on the ghoul. She had hit home again. All his dreaming and imagining was all very childish, truthfully.

Riyo had managed to shut the boil up.

Mot couldn't for the life of him come up with a situation to refer to. No adventures, no real life badassery. Nothing. He'd gotten beaten up trying to be bad a** on plenty of occasions. Gotten in trouble for sneaking out. Gotten in trouble for talking when he wasn't supposed to. Nothing ever came out with him on top. Nothing that made his made up dreamland admirable.

He really was just a child playing games. Maybe that really wasn't such a good thing after all.

Mot chuckled lightly, rubbing his neck. "Shoot, you got me there." He did his best to hide the way he was feeling; inferior and belittled. "Real life is pretty boring in comparison, I suppose. You win~."

Riyo was... A little shocked when he caved in so easily. She figured he'd fabricate some fantastic lie just to back up his argument about imagination.

Well... That was disappointing. Pausing in her short journey to the register, she turned around to face him with a raised eyebrow. "You know, you could've lied or something..." Not that she would've believed it completely.

For a moment, she just stared at him. Examined his face to assess the damage. Either what she said had gone over his head, or the boil was using his poker face. His words indicated the latter. Jeez. She realized at that moment what she was turning into. The jerk who crushed a child's dreams for the sake of being right. She was turning into her mother.

"H-hey... That doesn't mean you couldn't go out and do something stupid and dangerous for the sake of entertainment... I guess..." The whole 'consoling' thing was not something she did very well. "Like... I don't know... Break into that stupid shed on campus... Or go skipping through the woods." That was adventurous, right? Sure, she was practically encouraging him to go get killed, but that was better than crushing his dreams... She thought. Maybe.

Turning back around, she sat her books on the counter, a nervous look in her eyes. "You're young. You've got time to do things. Probably little to no responsibility besides school. Go do something."

The ghoul paused to pull out her big bag of pumpkin seeds, setting the amount required on the counter then shoving it back into her coat pocket. Maybe if someone had said something like that to her, she wouldn't be stuck in the giant mess she was in.

Lie about adventure? Mot almost did lie and made something up. Normally he would have. Instead he chuckled lightly and shook his head.

Was Riyo trying to make him feel better? If so it was working. Naively, Mot perked up with a smile. Her suggestions seemed like gold to him. "I guess I could do those things." He snapped his fingers. "Actually, I did get to to target practice while riding a skeletal horse once." That was adventurous, right? it was to him! He even had a cute ghoul riding behind him! He must not have been able to recall it in his short spell of sad puppy mode.

"Young?" He paused as she paid for her books. "Aren't you young too?" It seemed curious since she spoke to him as if her life was already decided.

Well, it looked like she had done something right for a change. The stupid smile was back on his face. It didn't really give her any satisfaction, but she supposed it was one less enemy.

Wait. She should be making enemies. Otherwise they wouldn't leave her alone. FUUUUUUUU-

"Yeah, sure." Real exciting, she supposed. Though his next question seemed to make her go blank.

Grabbing her bag, she turned away from the counter quietly. "I don't feel young." She said lowly after a moment of silence. The ghoul's glance retreated to the ground as she fidgeted with the bag in her hands. Truth be told, she felt like one hundred years had passed since she took responsibility for her mother's company... Yet it hadn't even been 10% of that. The thought that she'd be stuck running that monster of a corporation for the rest of my life sent a chill up her spine. Years upon years of nothing but paperwork and making 'final calls'. Hiding behind a desk and signing paychecks. It was a cold, unforgiving reality... But at least she would have a few years of school to enjoy what little freedom she had.

"I haven't felt that way in a long time..."

Puppy mode was back, but it was now more out of concern for Riyo. No. this would not do. Ghouls should always feel young and happy! It was just LAW.

After a long moment, Mot huffed. "Well. that won't do." He said with confidence, his hands set firmly on his hips. "Time to make you feel young. We. Are. Going. On. An. Adventure." As if Riyo had no say in the matter at all.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:40 pm

... What.

Riyo's brow furrowed at Mot's declaration. No longer was she fearful for the future. The present was much more terrifying. Turning around to face the cowboil once again, her head tilted.

One blink. Two blinks. "... Excuse me?" She finally asked, her face contorting into one of those 'are you stupid?' looks. "And exactly what makes you so sure I'll go along with this?" Seriously. It was like he was telling her to go, and Riyo wasn't really sure how she felt about that. The folding of arms signified an 'oh no you di'nt' stance, along with leaning on one leg. No, really. She wanted to hear this.

Mot had not thought this through. His eagerness to cheer her up had overshadowed Riyo's avoidance of fun. This would be a trial. She even looked at him like he was stupid for bringing it up. However, Mot swallowed his worry for the moment and attempted to remain vigilant.

"Well.." Mot started, trying to put on his serious game face by crossing his arms and pursing his lips. "It's for science." This would so work! How could it not? "You seem confident you can't have fun anymore and you're no longer feeling young. Soooo~ I will prove you wrong with this experiment!" He grinned, breaking his whole serious persona he attempted to pull off.

"I will prove that you can still enjoy a fantasy in real life."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:33 pm

Riyo couldn't lie to herself. The reasoning that it was for science was ridiculous. As he tried to explain, her eyes narrowed until she could barely see. "That is so..." She started, a sound of rising agitation in her voice.

Though she also couldn't deny the proposition was more than a little interesting. Where could he possibly take her? The boil hadn't even HAD any adventures.

"You know what? Lets just go." Her face turned from extremely skeptical to neutral at the drop of a pin, as if she'd gotten tired of fighting it.The ghoul was pretty sure she'd be no worse off than when she started. "Take me to this magical land of danger and wonderment. I've got nothing to lose." Inside she was laughing at the very concept of this skinny cowboil taking her anywhere but the maul and pointing to an adult entertainment store, saying that's where they'd find all the danger in the world... Or maybe the school kitchen... Or throwing rocks into a swamp.

"Lead the way, Sherrif." Riyo left the Skin 'n Bones part out for now, figuring the guy had taken enough abuse... For now. Quietly, she stepped aside and offered him the first steps out of the store, gesturing her hands towards the magical gateway of... Adventure.

Doubt sank deep into Mot's gut. That look Riyo was giving him burned right into him. Any moment now and the ghoul would call him out on bullshit.

However...

Mot mentally sqee'd when Riyo gave in. But then the reality set in. He had to come up with an adventure worthy of impressing the ghoul. This would be a very big task. However, being called Sheriff helped perk his ego a bit, puffing up his chest proudly.

"Let's see.." He pondered aloud as he slipped past her, rubbing his chin with his other hand settled on his hip. Had someone not just come through the door he'd have walked right into it. Lucky for him it barely grazed him as he walked through the opening.
Deep thought.

"There was this one time. Jericho and Shun and I fought some angry minipets." Mot recalled, shuddering at the thought. Crazy Coconuts and Canon Cats attacking all in one day. "I'm not so sure pissing off animals will be an enjoyable adventure though.." Shoot. What else then?
All he could come up with were make believe games he played as a kid. Usually by himself unless he was at school. It almost seemed like a good idea, but Riyo was such a stick in the mud, he had a hard time believing she would play along.

"Did you ever imagine an adventure as a kid?" He asked in passing, trying to come up with an ideal scenario for her. Where he was taking her was not yet clear. He was either focused on a specific location or leading her on a wild goose chase.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 10:24 pm

When Mot finally passed her to walk out, Riyo couldn't hide a little smirk at the corner of her mouth. He was... Amusing. Cocky sometimes, then unsure the next moment. Maybe he wasn't so bad, if only because of the humor he provided.

The feline wouldn't let the smirk last, however, as she followed Mot out the door, careful of the other patrons entering. Ah, so he knew Jericho and Shun too. "So you know the dragon and the p***k." Well, there was one thing they had in common. "No, I don't much enjoy picking fights with creatures." Unless she absolutely had to.

Where the hell was he going?

"... Of course I did." She immediately replied to his question... Though she was reluctant to elaborate on it. "I... Imagined a lot of them.." The feline started to fidget with the bag in her hand again. "One time, when I ran away, I wanted to go on an epic journey looking for-" Her father. "... Treasure." Sure, why not. That sounded nicer. "... But eventually I got cold and tired and had to go home." After about a week of running around in circles and eating mice.

Then her ears folded back. "And.. Um... There was another time..." Her voice just sort of trailed off. "I can't really remember. It was a long time ago." It's not that she couldn't remember. Like most past events, Riyo just didn't want to think about it. "So, got anywhere specific in mind? Maybe one of your childhood ideas?" She asked in an effort to drive the conversation away from her childhood.

p***k? Oh, Shun was just making friends everywhere he went, wasn't he? Riyo's reaction to his name was not surprising considering his personality. Mot did not hold much grudge against him, regardless of his behavior.

Riyo started to sound like she was going to divulge into a happy child hood memory but stopped sooner than Mot would have liked. This made his job harder. It was hard getting some people to open up. Then again, at least she was cooperating. "Other time?" Wait, that was it? Was it better than searching for treasure for a week? Sigh. It was like pulling teeth trying to get her talking. Mot needed to try harder.

"I've got something in mind. It won't be nearly as adventurous as when I was a kid though." Mot was a hyperactive child, and while he still held a fair amount of energy to spare, it was nothing compared to his childhood.
Oh! Maybe if he shared his own stories she would share hers! Genius. "I know this may surprise you, but as a kid I liked to pretend I was a cowboy. An outlaw or a sheriff chasing an outlaw." He said with a cheesy grin, teasing his own character. "I was stuck inside most of the time, but I'd climb walls and pretend they were mountains. Stuff like that."

Mot paused and looked back to Riyo. "You said you ran away once?" He was probably prying, but it wasn't as if it could not be expected of him. "I did that a few times, but I usually only made it one block away and ended up running home." He chuckled as if it was a fond memory. "I usually only did it to spite my mother. Then I'd realize she knew I was bluffing and come home in a huff when she didn't come chase me."
