When Xiu pulled back Riv's arm and insisted on guiding them around in a zig-zag pattern, the Scorpion followed without protest. He'd momentarily wondered what the hell they were doing, but it quickly became apparent the white Sigel saw something he didn't, by the way those blue eyes kept darting about before they'd alter course again. Maybe something to do with the ghost?

When the screaming began again, this time unmistakably human and terrified, Rivener needed no prompting to press himself into the nearest shadow, all but melding into the darkness. His breathing was calm and slow, used to the sudden screams now, and it occurred to him how heartless he might seem to Xiu, who was clearly upset by all this.

The three idiotic humans went towards the sound of the screams, calling out "Walter? Walter? Wa- ohmygawd, WALTER!" in a way that should chill anyone to the bone. Rivener just sighed and shook his head. Those morons, had they any sense of self-preservation, should have just turned and ran the hell out of here as soon as they saw Walter was dead. But no, as the two Raevans snuck closer, they could overhear the Doctor sounding half-horrified and half-excited.

-----------------------------------------------------

"Turn it on, turn it on, I bet there's crazy readings here!" Dr. Eustan said in a hushed whisper, flailing a hand at Sam.

The psychic, however, would have none of that: he was paralyzed, trembling, staring down at the splat of meat and bones that was once Walter. All around was this presence, bearing down on him and smothering the life out of him, and no matter how loudly Dr. Madeline yelled at him to snap out of it, he wouldn't budge.

"We should maybe get out of here and call the cops," Horrace suggested, the camera lens drooping as he gazed about in frantic panic.

"Don't be ridiculous! The cops called US, remember? What would it look like if we just called them right back? No, we're going to get this thing on tape, and we're going to have Sam exorcise it, just like we planned! This episode is going to be our ticket to the big times!" Fear was taking a back seat to ambition, it seemed.

"I don't think Sam's in shape to do much of anything! Is he even still breathing?"

"Keep the camera up, you lazy-... Keep filming! SAM! ...SAM, snap out of it! C'mon, just do that thing you do!" She shook the man, slapped his face lightly, but Sam's eyes stared unfocused beyond the Doctor, barely seeing the perverse, misshapen figure that began coalescing just beyond the light...

---------------------------------------------

"That's him!" Rivener whispered, knowing Xiu must have spotted the Fat Man already. Teeth grit, the Scorpion shifted forward only an inch, grunting in frustration... They were behind the group of humans with Fat Man on the other side! There was no way around without being seen, everything was too well-lit! They'd be caught on tape, and by what the Doctor had been saying, Rivener doubted she'd be convinced to just let the whole thing be forgotten once she had the footage.

But if they waited much longer, that monstrous ghost- wearing mangled cat fur and pieces of raw flesh in some sick caricature of clothing- would harm and possibly kill the humans! While that was fine by Rivener, he knew Xiu wouldn't approve and he didn't want to be seen as the heartless person he knew he was becoming... "s**t," growled the Sigel, lurching forward as another plan, desperate and crazy, formed in his mind. "Get ready to run if I tell you to, Xiu," Riv warned before he floated into the light.

"HEY! Fat Man!" He called, ignoring the two humans jumping at his sudden appearance. They hadn't even spotted the ghosts yet, and probably thought HE was it. "You look as disgusting as ever!"

Rivener tensed. If he could get the apparition to chase him, he could lure it away from the humans, to a place where their fight might not be caught on film...

The figure of the Fat Man as it slowly emerged from shadowy recesses just beyond the light made Xiu sick to the core. It was horrible, the way he was wearing all those skins; as though trying to give himself a physical form to his wraithlike one. The hairs on the back of Xiu’s neck stood out with fear as the Fat Man approached the ignorant humans.

Couldn’t they smell him? thought Xiu as the scent of blood and rotting meat wafted through the air like some noisome gas; his dark tendrils/vibes feeling those humans as it would a prey. Perhaps the group was too busy trying to get dear old ‘Sam’ to wake up from his fear ridden faint.

Xiu gripped the handle of his sword and would have just about charged at the specter when Rivener whispered his plan to him; before charging blindly out in full view of the monster.

"HEY! Fat Man!"

"You look as disgusting as ever!"

The scream of rage and fury as the Fat Man noticed the Scorpion was incomparable to any anger and hate that the Sigel had felt so far. At the sight of Rivener, the monster practically bellowed his lungs out before barreling towards the Sigel.

Rivener was quick to react and was well out of the hall before either the humans or the monster had a chance to actually figure out what was happening. Xiu himself was pressed tightly against the wall despite Rivever’s instruction to flee. Intuition told the Sigel that it would be wise to not reveal himself to that fearsome beast just yet. And in his haste, he might just trip into one of those dark things again and set the monster off. Xiu was sure now that these things helped the Fat Man control his territory better.

“Hey did you see that?”

“You mean that demonic creature floating above us just now?”

“Yes!”

“Or that thing that just barreled past us?!”

“That too!”

“Damn! So now there’s two of them?!”

“Quick get the camera!”

Xiu silently slipped out of the hall while the two humans were bickering. The third human, Sam, was down and out for the count. It would probably take him some time to come around.

-----------------------------

When Rivener first appeared before him, the Fat Man couldn’t believe his eyes. He knew that being! HE KNEW!!

Painful memories of being stabbed by those vicious wings returned like a hammer to his head. The pain! The fear! The feel of death as it took him…

The Fat Man screeched! HE WOULD KILL THAT F*CKING B*STARD!! BECAUSE OF HIM HE HAD TO RESORT TO THESE CHEAP GRADE MATERIALS FOR HIS COSTUME!! Howling with raw fury, the Fat Man charged after the Scorpion, not noticing that there was another raevan there.

Although he charged, he was still pretty much slower than Rivener and the Fat Man paused, wheezing. Apparently death did nothing to improve his stamina.

Gotta think. Can’t be defeated like the last time. Any gamer would know that. Gotta think up a strategy…

Grinning maliciously, the Fat Man slowly disappeared within the shadows. Soon after, the dark tendrils begin to lengthen…

Rivener pivoted and took off as soon as he heard that screech starting, taking it to mean that the Fat Man was indeed taunted successfully. Riv also figured the dead man recalled who he was despite his coat and hood: there was no mistaking Rivener's stinger-tipped wings and legless body. Wings snapping taut, the Scorpion zoomed through the halls, intent in getting far enough away that he could strike before the humans caught up with their infernal camera.

As calm and cool as he acted most of the time, the Dark Sigel's blood had indeed frozen when the chase began. How fast could a ghost go? Did the laws of physics even still apply? And what about the unseen things Xiu had been guiding them around before, was Riv just barreling through it all now? With a grimace Rivener angled upwards when he reached the open mezzanine, his wings giving a strong flap that sent the black-clad Raevan to the floor above. Only here did he pause and look back, breathing a little harder.

Xiu hadn't followed-... Just as well, perhaps the Fat Man didn't know of the white Sigel's presence yet and would be taken by surprise. There was no sign of the Fat Man though... Rivener frowned, concern coursing through him. Had Xiu been attacked? Is that why he hadn't followed? ...But no, there was no sound of stuggle below, only the thump-thump-thump of footsteps as people approached. Those two humans (two? where was the other one?) were rather persistent! Riv flattened himself against a pillar as he had before, peering down as the so-called Doctor and her cameraman barreled into view.

"I can't believe you didn't get that on film, you astronomical a**! Where did they go?!"

"Are you sure it's alright to leave Sam back there like that? This don't feel right, Doc..." Horrace kept glancing back, swiveling so fast that no doubt all the footage would be blurry and useless. Madeline smacked him and grabbed his shoulders, setting him straight and glaring daggers.

"He shouldn't have passed out like that, dammit! He'll be safe, the ghosts will think he's already dead. Now stop screwing up the shoot! Do your job!"

Horrace groaned in protest but did as he was told, the two of them jogging off into a hallway underneath Rivener's hiding spot.

Rivener frowned. Where is that damned ghost? Why didn't he follow me? Now that the humans had passed, Riv floated back down and quietly began making his way back to where Xiu had last been seen, hoping the white Sigel hadn't been caught while Rivener fled. The Scorpion would never forgive himself if that was the case! And as he went back, unknowingly he was crossing dozens of smoky ectoplasm tendrils, one after another, revealing his presence to the waiting FatMan...

Xiu flicked his wings uneasily. Great. Now the both of them were separated. And with separation, how often was it in movies that someone would be attacked soon?

Best not to go to the bathroom, storeroom, basement and other such places. Xiu scanned his surroundings. The weird dark shadows were less here; as though the Fat Man had other uses for them. And as shocking as it was, the two humans had actually left their prone comrade smack in the middle of the convention hall. Were they trying to use him as bait or something?

Floating warily over, Xiu gently nudged the man. No response. Oh well, it was not in his heart to leave someone lying about like this. Gingerly the white Sigel picked the human up. Sam was lighter than he looked and hardly weighed a thing in Xiu’s arms. A sudden unidentifiable smell hit the white sigel and Xiu watched with mild horror as there seemed to be…some sort of fluid leaking between the man’s legs. It did not smell like blood but it was certainly coming from the human. There was also a small slightly amberish clear puddle where the prone figure had been. Wrinkling his nose in disgust, Xiu tried maneuvering Sam into a position where he was less likely to be in contact with such strange fluid. The Sigel succeeded after a couple of careful tries. Now he had to think of a suitable place to hide the person. Xiu growled softly. He had no time for this. Rivener was out there battling that…thing and all Xiu was left with was with some weird smelling human. A quick search revealed a hidden alcove quite close to the glass dome that made up the hall’s ceiling. It was…relatively safe there. Apparently the Fat Man still thought like a human to some degree and would never think of searching for such places.

Keeping his wings closely pinned to his body, Xiu carefully deposited the human there. From this position, the entire hall was in plain sight. Xiu wondered where Rivener was and if the Sigel was alright. Rivener seemed…pretty confident that he could take on the ghost.

---------------------------

Like a spider detecting its prey through the vibration of its web strings, the Fat Man grinned as he felt the presence of the half-bodied being moving through his ‘feelers’. True, he could also feel the presence of the other humans but there were two of them together while the other ‘being’ was alone. Which nagged at the Fat Man’s memory. Wasn’t there…another being? Hazy memories of the fight replayed itself in the Fat Man’s mind and he blinked stupidly. Yeah…there was another…weaker one with him but...the Fat Man had only felt a single presence. Perhaps the other being was hidden. Deep inside the ghost’s mind was still the belief that these half bodied creatures could grant him wishes. And there were plenty of wishes a dead person could want.

Steadily increasing his coils around the general location that Rivener was in, the Fat Man began to stalk the sigel from the shadows. He’d have to lure the Sigel to a place where he held the advantage. Any tactical game would tell you that~

All he needed was a bait.

The Fat Man grinned. He was sure that the Committee would be more than willing to help a fellow Convention goer. Ignoring Rivener for now, the Fat Man began stalking the humans.

Terrified screams were soon heard from the direction of the humans, as though to tempt the Sigel into rescuing them. Just in case the ‘being’ did not get the hint, the Fat Man thoughtfully left an arm belonging to Horace on the ground. He’d keep the two alive for now. After all, he’d need to sign up for the convention later.

By the time that scream echoed out, Rivener had only just returned to the area where he'd last seen Xiu. For a moment Riv tensed, eyes wild, wings quivering with the itch to sting something in self-defense... Ah, the screams were human. Rivener sighed with relief, glad that it wasn't Xiu. With that noise as a guide, the Sigel was at least certain Fat Man was nowhere near this place, although how fast could that change when you were talking about a ghost?

"Xiu!" Rivener called, red eyes scouring the immediate area for his friend. He realized the white Sigel might be hiding from the ghost, and taking a chance that his ally was still around near enough to hear him, Riv continued. "Xiu, I'm going to try and find that thing. Please don't be hurt, alright?" He felt stupid talking to thin air, but it was nothing that could be helped. Huffing in frustration, not liking this sudden separation from the other Raevan, Rivener returned to the dimly-lit halls, slinking towards the fading human screams.

He found the arm easily enough, wrinkling his nose in disgust. ...Had the Fat Man always been like this, or had being a ghost distorted his mentality so much he had become a monster? In life he'd been pushy, obnoxious, rude and inconsiderate, but he HAD resorted to kidnapping and what Rivener still, to this day, equated to rape when he'd tried touching Xiu's Rune. How much of this current behavior was new?

It didn't take long for the dark Sigel to find his target. Making sure his hood was in place, mindful of having his face recognized by these two humans, Riv slowly advanced towards the horrific form of the Fat Man and his two victims. Luckily for the Scorpion, Doctor Madeline was currently passed out after having come too close to the supernatural first-hand. Horrace, since the loss of his arm, couldn't be bothered to keep filming and had let the camera fall, though it hung limply around his shoulders, dangling from the straps. it still rolled, unbeknownst to all, though the framing was currently of the far-off foodcourt, not the cramped hall FatMan had chosen as his battle grounds, negating Rivener's power of flight.

This time the Raevan didn't bother taunting. He just strode out into the open, his face hidden, his wings snapping open as far as the hall would let him- which wasn't full width. Annoying. He bared his teeth, fully ready to fight, his stingers already dripping with ghost-killing poison.
