Black Metal

Old Mans Child (I think their black metal)-Any Album

Melodic Death Metal (Gothenburg)

I don't know why you consider CoB either of those, but if you like them try Kalmah, Norther, and Imperanon.

Holy ******** this thread is s**t:

CoF, AA, CoB, God Forbid, The Haunted, It Dies Today, Hypocrisy (with the exception of the first two albums), OMC, DBM, Dimmu Borgir (with the exception of the first two albums), Marduk....NONE of this s**t is death metal or black metal.

For death metal try:

Amorphis -- The Karelian Isthmus
Arghoslent -- Incorrigible Bigotry
At The Gates -- The Red In The Sky Is Ours
Darkthrone -- Soulside Journey
Entombed -- Left Hand Path, Clandestine
The Chasm -- Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph, Conjuration of the Spectral Empire (he should probably try that first)
Eucharist -- A Velvet Creation
Immolation -- Close To A World Below
Morbid Angel -- Altars of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick, Covenant
Necrophobic -- The Nocturnal Silence
Therion -- Beyond Sanctorum

Black Metal:

Aeternus -- Beyond The Wandering Moon
Burzum -- Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, Filosofem (if he hasn't heard those two)
Bathory -- Under The Sign: The Sign of the Black Mark
Beherit -- Drawing Down The Moon
Blut Aus Nord -- Ultima Thulee, Memoria Vetusta I - Fathers of the Icy Age, The Work Which Transforms God
Countess -- Heilig Vuur
Darkthrone -- A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under A Funeral Moon, Transilvanian Hunger
Destroyer 666 -- Unchain the Wolves
Dimmu Borgir -- For All Tid, Stormblast
Drudkh -- Forgotten Legends, Autumn Aurora, The Swan Road
Enslaved -- Vikingligr Veldi
Fullmoon -- United Aryan Evil
Graveland -- Thousand Swords
Hellhammer -- Apocalyptic Raids (EXCELLENT first wave BM)
Immortal -- Pure Holocaust
Mayhem -- De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Megiddo -- The Devil and the Whore
Misantropical Painforest -- Winds Saturate With Inhuman Longing
Moonblood -- Blut Und Krieg
Nokturnal Mortum -- Goat Horns
Summoning -- Dol Guldur
Xasthur -- A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors

Note that I've avoided the best of death metal (in most cases) and went for stuff he could probably handle, instead. I gave no such mercy when it came to black metal.

For some bands, Norther are death metal, they are like CoB, so if oyu like them, you'll probably like Norther. Arch Enemy are good death metal, and so is Bolt Thrower.

CoB are power metal. Marduk is ******** norsecore s**t.

AA is melo-death.

That aside, even if CoB WERE melo-death, he was asking for real death metal.

You can't say that, s/he didn't specify. So, what would be best would be for him/her to do would be to take a little bit from every sub genre, and find out what they like best. so stfu. gg uninstall.

Melo-Death/Gothenburg is much closer to a sub-genre of power metal than DM, so yes, my statement still applies.

you a*****e, if it was closer to Power Metal, then it wouldn't have DEATH in the name of the sub-genre.

Ayrith
My brother has asked me to put together a list of death&black metal bands for him, and i'm looking for some new ones other than:
Cradle of Filth, Arch Enemy, Deicide, Burzum, Cannibal Corpse and Children of Bodom.
Since that isn't very many, I'd be glad for any names you can give me.

morbid angel, vader, malevolent creation, deicide amon amarth, death

It's called melo-DEATH because it has death vocals. When the biggest influence of every ******** melo-death/Gothenburg is Iron Maiden (Much like 99.9% of power metal) you can safely say it's closer to power metal.

OMG! NU-METAL IS METAL BECAUSE IT HAS METAL IN THE NAME! rolleyes

I'm confused.
Is Children of Bodom Death or black or neither?
I was told it was melodic black metal...
