Admittedly, Cereus was rather caught off guard by his father's question. Up until now he had been used to simply studying and then repeating what he had learned. It felt rather nice to actually feel included in the lesson, first with the net and now by answering his father's questions. He supposed that if he wanted to continue to be involved, he would have to keep showing that he deserved it.

He stood for a few moments in silence, debating on how to answer the question. "Well," He started off slowly. "I suppose you could use it for several things. You could catch fish with it right?" He asked hopefully. "And if you can catch fish than maybe you could catch other things?" The little colt looked eagerly to his father, hoping that his answers had pleased him.

Bo-Tatá nodded approvingly as his son replied. "Very good." He told him, offering a rare bit of encouragement. "We can use this to catch many things. Let's say you want to set up some extra protection around your home. Perhaps you don't want any unwanted visitors. This would be one way of keeping them out. It could also be useful if you need to snare an animal or some fish as you suggested. All that you need to do is lay it on the ground like this." He gestured. "Then you cover it with leaves like this so that it won't be seen. When they step here," He pointed his hoof at the mechanism. "It snaps the net up like so and there you have it."

The stallion paused a moment as he allowed this information to settle. He also waited to see if the colt would have any questions for him. Satisfied that Cereus understood him, he continued on to the next lesson. "Now then. The last thing I'm going to show you today will be a pit fall. Do you know what that is?" He looked questioningly at the boy.

Pleased that he was being included once more, the little colt thought a moment, trying to please his father as best as he could. "Well," He paused a moment trying to put his thoughts into words. "I suppose a pit would be some sort of hole in the ground. Then, fall, that would mean something would likely fall into it?" He looked up at his father eagerly, hoping that he had been able to please him once more. It wasn't often that his father paid much individual attention to him, and he wanted to have as much of it as possible.

"Very good." Boi-Tatá nodded approvingly. "That is exactly what it is. It's rather quite simple really. All that you need to do is dig a large hole in the ground, large enough to to hold and trap your prey. Obviously if you're trying to snare a rabbit it won't need to be very large. For a soquili, however, you'll need a much larger hole. This can be very, very tricky as you might find yourself caught up in the trap if you aren't careful. However, I'll teach you how to dig a hole like that when you're a bit older. For now, we'll just make a smaller one."

He paused for a moment and looked around for a patch of dirt that wasn't mud, but wasn't as hard as brick either. "Ah! Here we go." He motioned for Cereus to follow him and made his way over to the patch of dirt. "Help me dig this will you?" The stallion started to paw at the dirt, using his hooves to dig up as much as he could manage.

Quickly, the colt made his way over to his father and began to scrape away the dirt as well. It was fairly difficult, trying to scoop up dirt with his tiny little hooves, but he managed somehow. After a few tedious minutes, they had a hole large enough to hold a rabbit but nothing much larger.

"Are you sure this will hold a rabbit?" He asked his father, rather skeptical about the hole. "How will it even fall in? Won't it just avoid it altogether?" Cereus supposed her really shouldn't be questioning his father, but the thought that such a small hole could trap anything was a rather silly thought.

The mutated stallion tried to keep calm as his son talked. He knew it was only natural for one so young to ask questions, but it really did irk him when he questioned his logic.

"I know that it does seem rather small, but for a rabbit it will make do. Plus, the rabbit will not see the hole because it will be covered up. If you would listen a moment you would already know that." He paused a minute, waiting to see if the colt had anymore questions for him. Satisfied, he continued on once more.

"Now then, we'll gather up a few sticks and branches like this and lay them over the top." Boi walked over to a nearby tree and picked up a rather small branch from it's base. He then placed the branch over the opening of the hole and repeated the process several more times. "You want to have enough branches to support a few leaves, but not so many that the rabbit will simply be able to walk over it. There is a bit of a fine line between the two so it may take some practice before you can really know how many branches you need. For this hole, we should be fine with these. Now then, you'll want to cover the branches in leaves so that the hole is hidden."

Not pausing to see if the colt was keeping up, the stallion went about collecting the leaves and placing them upon the sticks, effectively covering the hole. "Now the hole is covered but it can still catch prey. I suspect I should get you back before your mother gets angry, you know how she can be. Come on then."

Having watched his father's demonstration, the colt remained silent. Once more his father was correct. If he had simply remained silent a little longer he would have had his questions answered without angering his father. However, there seemed to be little harm done.

As sad as Cereus was for his lessons to end, he was rather relieved as well. This whole day had been rather tiring and he was becoming increasingly hungry. He knew that the lessons were important, but they had also started to become rather dull. However, he was still determined to show his father that he could be just as good as he was. But that might just have to be saved for a different day. Quickly, the little colt trotted to catch up to his father. For now, he just wanted a bit of his mother's milk.
