_________________________________________________________________ “ I see.”, Seylin resisted the urge to raise his eyebrow at hearing those peculiar words. As ‘ruler’ over a collection of thieves in Vioden, Seylin had often heard the word said by other ‘crime leaders’ to whom he coerced in business on occasion. The phrase was not always a sign for concern; but, in his experience it was generally an unpleasant omen that warned of ill weather ahead. Especially if the words came out of a woman’s mouth. Feeling all the prognostics of a metaphorical cloudy day, Seylin let his blue-black eyes boil into the girl’s face. Not to be rude, but only to express that he was giving ear to whatever she said.
“ Thank you, sir, for explaining the tale for me. I live far off in the country and my mother doesn’t discuss such topics with me.”, Seylin found it very difficult not to raise his eyebrow, and the way his eyes darkened for a moment was the proof of it. ‘ Is her mother a hag?’, thought the man as he tapped his fingers against his elbow and continued to give her his full attention. There was a manner underneath the tone of her voice that piqued with Seylin’s dim second senses. ‘ Does she think that I just fed her a leg of fleeceable mutton?’, Seylin had spent many a year trying to regain what was lost when the peal from his necklace was stolen. All he could ever work on was a hunch; but, usually his intuition never failed him. For reasons unbeknownst to the raven-haired man, this woman was difficult to read.
“ If you don’t think that I can handle myself then I wish to join you on your quest.”, Seylin finally raised his eyebrow and felt the intuitive sensation in his stomach begin to curdle in warning. Almost on cue, Seylin turned his head to look back at Bingham who had a disbelieving look splashed upon his face. The idea that a family in Gildur did not know of this story seemed to be a little over his head, and Seylin felt inclined to speak before the bumbler spoke rashly.
“ M’lady, it’s the Ogres, that can’t be trusted.”, Seylin kept his eyebrow raised for a moment longer. The sight of a rather shiny apparatus twinkling in the corner of his vision having distracted his attention. Squinting one eye, Seylin took a few steps forward to better see the shining object while his arms absentmindedly cupped his hips. Glad that the Ogre’s scared away that meddling fairy, Seylin felt a grin curve his mouth at the sight of Linwe’s quiver resting on the riverbank a good way in the distance. ‘ I doubt that it is unclaimed this far up the river…’, and pointing towards the object, Seylin walked backwards to flicker his black-blue eyes towards the strange maiden.
“ M’lady is that your quiver and arrows?”, The man listened long enough to see and hear the answer that his intuition already revealed to him before a larger grin blossomed on his face. It looked to be a fine quiver, and though the man had no plans of stealing from the lass, he had a merchant’s eye, and he enjoyed surveying unique antiques and craftsmanship.
“ Bingham…will you escort the lady towards the mouth of the cave? There is a small trail that leads northward. Please take heed not ensure that the lovely maid does not fall in the river again.”, With that, Seylin set his weapons down in the grass and began to undue the clasp at the roof of his tunic. Bingham was shocked at the unorthodox manner in which his fellow adventurer was disrobing, and after significantly widening his eyes, the young man led Linwe towards the cavern before she saw a man in his under trousers swimming through the river to fetch her quiver. The last thing Seylin heard from the two was Bingham politely asking what her name was and questioning whether or not she had a bow that went with the quiver, or if she was a merchants daughter. ‘because I am a blacksmith’s son, and I often carry merchandise with me on my travels’
Splash! Far from being naked, the dark haired male swam far more skillfully than the average person as he ascended across the currant to fetch Linwe's quiver of arrows.

She wasn’t sure what exactly was proper for an interaction of this kind. The only man she had ever encountered before was Marak and he was a goblin so things could be a whole lot different for humans. All she knew was that she wasn’t going to show her fear to them. She would keep a brave face on and, if necessary, fight these men to gain freedom. She didn’t know how she would go about that. It wasn’t exactly like she had much training with this type of thing. Her only fighting skills lay in her archery skills and with her bow that was pretty much useless.
”M’lady, it’s the Ogres, that can’t be trusted.” Linwe wasn’t sure if she believed this man. He probably didn’t trust her the way he was looking and Linwe didn’t really trust him. How could she? Her mother warned her about the evils of the world, especially should anyone find out who she was. And these two men were trying to find her. She was just thankful that they didn’t know what Linwe was meant to look like. She could easily say she was someone else and go about her way with them having no suspicions. It wasn’t exactly like they had found her in the tower. No one could prove who she was.
The man with the black hair started walking towards something he must have seen before turning back to look at her while pointing off in the distance. ”M’lady is that your quiver and arrows?” Although Linwe wasn’t going to take her eyes of the men in front of her, her glance went in the direction his hand was pointing and felt a somewhat relief at seeing the familiar objects. ”Why yes. Those are mine.” She wondered if these men would think it strange that she had such objects. If they did, it didn’t matter. Linwe could clearly see that her bow was not with the objects so they would still be useless unless she had the strength to pierce someone with the arrow, but she doubt that was possible.
The black haired man addressed the other about taking Linwe to the mouth of the cave. She was worried these men might be planning by taking her away but what could they do over there that they couldn’t do right here. Linwe would just have to be on her guard. The comment about making sure she didn’t fall in the river again bothered Linwe. She wasn’t some weak little thing that fell over constantly. Her fall into the river was completely on accident and it even saved her life. She did find the fact that the black-haired man had started to take things off his person. What was he planning on doing?
The other man started to lead Linwe away from where the other man was and started speaking with her. The first thing that even came out of his mouth made Linwe panic. Name? What could her name be? She difinetely couldn’t use her real name. That would just ruin everything. ”Um.. my name is Li- um Lily.” It was the first thing Linwe could think of and hopefully she would remember to answer to it should this man use it. ”I’m not a merchant’s daughter. My mother gave me a bow when I was younger to teach me to defend myself. I’m afraid that in my fall, I may have lost my bow.” She really hoped that he was buying this. The last part was true. She just didn’t specify on many things.
Her head turned when she heard a splash behind her and found the black haired man in the water. ”If you don’t mind my asking, how is it the two of you started out on this quest? Why bother with this Princesses?”

_________________________________________________________________ Bingham was more than happy to escort the lady away for a moment; after all, he hadn’t had anyone else to talk to besides that gruff male for the past evening or so. At first, Bingham always loved the idea of meeting new people, but that man’s lack of humor had been difficult to cope with. Even for him, who was jovial to everyone. Walking away after offering the strange maid his arm to be genteel, Bingham sent the girl a kind smile after turning his head to make sure they couldn’t see Seylin before stopping by an oak tree.
“ Um…my name is Li- um Lily.”, Bingham smiled at the pretty name; but, waited to hear her surname or lineage. “ I’m not a merchant’s daughter. My mother gave me a bow when I was younger to teach me to defend myself.”, Bingham raised his eyebrows in awe and admiration. Not very many girls were taught to defend themselves these days unless they did live in solitary places far from the city. Lily did not seem to be a country bumpkin; but, Bingham didn’t mind. He continued to smile when she finished speaking; but, let out a gentle laugh when she asked about the princess. It was a pity that Bingham hadn’t taken the advertisement/call to arms with him when he left home.
“ Why bother? Well, I’m not a very wealthy man; but, the money would help my family…plus…”, Bingham looked both ways as if he had some fear of being overheard in this solitary place.
“ The King decreed her hand in marriage to whomever rescues her. I’m not a knight, but, if I don’t die in this quest, it would be nice just to meet her. If she looks anything like the queen, then she must be very beautiful.”, Bingham let out another gentle laugh.
“ I hope you can forgive Seylin over there. I don’t know him very well, but I think he’s that serious with everybody. I’m hoping he’ll warm up to other people once he gets used to us.”, Bingham leaned in close to her ear as if he was telling gossip and chuckled into his hand. The gesture induced by a sunny mood, Bingham grinned when –speak of the devil- Seylin walked up with wet clothes, a quiver, and what he guessed was Lily’s bow.
“ Oooo! The craftsmanship looks Stunning Lily, it must be a family heirloom.”, Bingham went forward to look at it; but, Seylin raised an eyebrow and shot him a distrustful look before handing the bow and quiver to Lily.
“ So are we ready to go?”, Seylin nodded and started walking towards the river-filled mouth of Toll cavern.

Of course, the king had a reward for the person who would bring her into his clutches. It really bothered Linwe that this was all happening. Couldn’t he leave her alone? This king kept harassing her mother to the point where Linwe had never been allowed to leave the tower. All of this was his fault. She really wished she could just go and give that man a piece of her mind. Of course the thought of doing such a thing was foolish. She would instantly be caught and killed if she attempted.
Linwe turned her attention back to the man when he was speaking. There was one thing that stuck out to her as he talked. Marriage? Why would the king promise this if he planned on killing her? It didn’t make sense. Unless the King didn’t mean to kill her, just keep her as a sort of prisoner in the castle, locked up so she could never really escape while being matched with whoever idiotic person brought her to him. This thought outraged her more than she could say and she would have said something if she didn’t keep reminding herself that she had to remain calm and be careful not to give herself away.
With Bringham talking about how he would be happy just to meet her, seemed to her as strange. Did he really just want to meet her because she was considered a princess? As far as Linwe was concerned, a person could be royalty and be completely horrible, like the King, while someone who didn’t have any position of power could be one of the kindest persons you could ever meet, like her mother. Thinking of her mother, Linwe tried to keep a brave face on but she worried about what her mother would think once she found Linwe missing.
When the blonde man leaned in close to her, Linwe stiffened, afraid of what he might do but actually calmed down when she realized that he was just speaking with her. This man was rather kind and Linwe couldn’t see him ever causing anyone like her harm. However, Linwe was taught by her mother that you couldn’t trust anyone by how they seemed on the surface. Smiling slightly at him, Linwe looked when the other man came back, wet, but with her quiver of arrows and her bow. She didn’t expect that to be with them. It was nice to see those familiar items.
At first, Linwe was convinced she would have to fight this man for her items but surprisingly he handed them over rather quickly. She gave the man a thankful look and placed the quiver around her shoulder and carried the bow. With these items, Linwe felt a little more in power. She could at least defend herself if she needed. The blonde man seemed to appreciate how it was crafted. She smiled as she thought about the day her mother gave these items to her. Once they touched her hand, Linwe felt right holding them. It was natural.
It was long until the two men started walking and Linwe followed out of the fear that if she tried to run, they would capture her. ”May I ask your names?” If she was going to be traveling with these men she might as well know their names. It was also an interesting rush to find out more about these humans. They were the only humans besides her mother who she had contact with.

_________________________________________________________________ Bingham was left standing there with a scowl on his face at how rude Seylin had just been. Not even giving him the time of say to verbally answer before leaving and expecting them to follow like he was their leader. ‘ That’s not very nice!’ Wondering where his mother was in Seylin’s upbringing, the blonde sent young Lily an apologetic frown because of that man’s shameful behavior. ‘ I really hope he’ll lighten up…’ Bingham was a stupidly optimistic man, time would tell if he was being foolish for believing that there was a better side to Seylin. Watching the man walk away with his eyebrows furrowed in displeasure, he turned his head apologetically when he heard Lily begin to speak.
“ May I ask your names?”, Bingham snorted air through his nostrils and began to follow their ‘leader’ into that damp and dripping cave that frightened him exceedingly. Hiding his discomfort by smiling at Lily, he smiled at her question and let out his signature chuckle.
“ My name is Langcaster. Bingham Langcaster, if you want to be on friendly terms.” , He smiled and leaned in close to Lily’s ear, because Seylin was so far ahead of them that he either didn’t hear her question, or was pretending that he hadn’t heard Lily’s question.
“ And that black knight is Seylin Dragulia.”, The black haired man interrupted Bingham without turning around to say his proper name of: Darunia. Rolling his eyes because the man had been pretending to be oblivious all along, Bingham snorted at his behavior once more before grimacing and correcting himself mid-sentence with a comical tone of voice.
“ Darunia…My sincere apologies. I guess you just make me think of dragons.”, Seylin’s shoulders seemed to tense up, but the older man said nothing as he scaled the thin, rocky, ledge and walked into the darkness like this tunnel was the back of his hand. Bingham followed behind at a very slow pace, in fear of falling into the river and being swept down the currant. Occasionally mist from the river’s movement would brush into the air and touch his skin, and Bingham would shiver at the touch of the water. ‘ My Lord; how frigid! How could Seylin swim in that water? ’, For the ordinary human, the water was close to freezing temperatures. ‘ Oh Seylin…I really hope you know where we’re going…’ Frightened by the water and the lack of light, the man was quite satisfied when Seylin finally heard his teeth chattering from the cold and lit a lantern so that Bingham could properly see around him. At the rate they were going without light, it might have taken them days to reach the surface.
“ I find it surprising that your mother never told you about the princess Lily; but, I think it’s alright for you not to know. It’s a very sad story, and I can understand why your parents wouldn’t have wanted you to know.”, Bingham smiled like the oblivious fool he was. The light having comforted his mood enough to speak, the man broke his lengthy silence with a smile towards Lily, who he assumed to be just as anxious as he was to be in this cold and freaky cavern that was filled with water. The cave wasn’t natural, and every instinct in his body told him so. ‘ Why in all that is sacred would Seylin know so much about this dark and spooky place?’, Suspicious but too foolish and kind to assume any conclusions about the man.
“ If you don’t mind me asking…why were you on the riverbank Lily? This water is near freezing in here…I’m amazed you’re alive.”, Bingham said it with joy and relief in his tone; but, Bingham thought he saw Seylin turn his head to peek one eye at them when he heard the words that came out of Bingham’s mouth. Bingham just thought that Seylin was, of course, going to be suspicious of everything and assume that Lily wasn’t human. She looked human, and sounded human, and that was enough for him to believe.
“ Were you scared of that black dragon up there?”, Bingham leaned into his hand to quietly chuckle at the way Seylin’s shoulders tensed up for a moment in the lamp light.

She wasn’t sure if it suited him or not. She wasn’t used to hearing names other than the two people she knew all her life and that of the King and Queen and the last two were simply so she could protect herself from them. She waited for the black haired man to speak but he just kept walking. Linwe found that strange. She was startled when Bringham was once again close to her ear. She would just have to remember that he did that, it seemed. So the others name was Seylin. That one didn’t seem like he wanted her around. It actually seemed like he didn’t want anyone around. Linwe hide a smile when Bringham mentioned the dragons. From what she heard of dragons, it seems like their mood would fit that of Seylin’s.
Linwe followed along quite close to Bringham, just so she wouldn’t lose them. Terrain like this was definitely not something she was used to and she didn’t want to risk something bad happening on the fact that she couldn’t keep up. Bringham had started shaking a bit and Linwe wasn’t all too sure why. She had never seen anyone do something like that before and it didn’t make sense. She also heard a tiny bit of noise coming from him. Was this something that he did to keep him safe? It was confusing but she didn’t dare risk asking what it was he was doing should that prove to be something of common knowledge.
When the light was given to them, Linwe was a bit happier knowing where she was placing her feet. Linwe didn’t mind the dark but a little bit of light was good for when she couldn’t see where she was headed. Bringham started to converse with her again about the Princess. Linwe wished they would stop speaking of it because she could sense they found it strange that she didn’t “know” about it. Even Bringham brought up how strange it was for him that she hadn’t heard it. ”I guess my mother just wants to protect me.” That was all she could think of to respond to him with.
The question of why she was in the water came up and Linwe felt her mind coming up blank. How could she explain herself? It wasn’t like she could tell them the truth. Her mind raced for an answer she could give that wouldn’t have them asking further questions. Smiling slightly at Bringham’s little joke, she shook her head. ”Uh, no. I was walking along the river so I wouldn’t get lost. You see, I follow the river so I know where I’m at. There was a soft spot on the ground and I was too close to the edge that I feel in. I wasn’t in there very long, I don’t think.” Thinking back, Linwe didn’t find the water to be cold but if Bringham said it was freezing best to just follow along with what he was saying.

_________________________________________________________________ Seylin had found it wise to keep his mouth shut and let bumbling fools weasel out tidbits of information. For the years that he had been leader of a small band of thieves, he had attempted to train the best of them just that little technique. After all, a rambling person often revealed the most private and intimate details without forcing the other to do something suspicious, such as asking questions. Seylin wanted to know more of the mysterious girl, but to ask her questions outright would be horribly suspicious of him, and give Bingham the wrong impression. Perhaps the older gentleman had a difficult time forming relationships, but for whatever reason the black haired man kept quiet and paid little to no attention to the lives of others. He had, after all, a very tedious tool that was making himself useful at the moment and doing the work for him. ‘ I’ll endure your bumbling teases if you just remain pleasantly stupid for a little longer.’, Seylin did look behind him at key points in the conversation behind him; but, he had not seriously comprehended something inhuman until Bingham had a rare stroke of genius.
“ This water is near freezing in here…I’m surprised you’re alive.”, A very curious detail indeed. ‘ That girl would not be so willing to follow us if she did, indeed, live nearby…’ A girl who knew this area well would have stayed far away from this part of the river, and would know better than to even venture near Toll Cave. The river that fell through the cavern fell from a lake gathered on the roof of the cliffs of Insanity, that magically sustained themselves from rain that fell almost constantly in the sky, drawn up by the sea. Beneath the river, inside of Toll Cave, were underwater tunnels that led deep underneath the ocean. It was an unnatural place held together by dark magic. Humans would always fear the lick of evil that seemed to vibe from this place. Seylin looked behind him at the girl with a suspicious eye, wondering what sort of creature she really was.
Lily wasn’t shivering, and had no goose bumps on her skin. While he could not see in the dark as well as he once could, the girl seemed to have less troubles in the dark than Bingham was having, and that as well was a very curious little coincidence. Perhaps the girl wasn’t lying, and truly did live in the area. Underground. That explanation she gave was far too lengthy to be valid. It was easier to ramble about a lie than the truth, and Seylin’s stomach agreed with him; but, he could not be so foolish as to accuse the girl now. With Bingham here to defend her like the clueless fellow that he was. ‘ She is following us…for what, I do not know.’, But he might very well know soon if Bingham kept asking her questions.
Suddenly stopping when the ledge rose ominously over a flooded pool, Seylin turned around on the edge of the wall and precariously walked towards Bingham and Lily with that dark and serious expression showing in his black and blue eyes. Taking the magic rope from his bag, Seylin ran his fingers along the material until he found one end of the coil and wordlessly shirked it around Lily’s waist and tied it without her permission to try and do so.
“ The ledge will disappear soon, and we shall have to climb up the walls.”, Seylin directed his eyes at Lily’s feet. “ You can tie up your dress if you like, but it would be better if you cut off the gown near the knee.”, The ‘dragon’ pinned his brooding eyes into Lily’s own to hold the connection for as long as possible.
“ Wouldn’t want to take a nasty tumble, now would we?”, Perhaps the man sounded threatening, and in one way he was, but he had no ill intent towards her. ‘ You’re more than what you seem to be, and I know you are keeping something from me.’, was the exact thought that his eyes conveyed as he finished tying the safety rope around her waist and then walked towards Bingham to let the man tie his own safety loop around his waist.
Looking into Lily’s eyes left the man feeling a strange twinge in his stomach that he had not felt in years. Unsure what to feel about the unusual connection, Seylin pretended that he felt absolutely nothing when looking into her eyes, and went ahead to tie the rope around his own waist before throwing the other end up on a loop protruding from the cavern wall. Bingham started to ramble about how he did not like this development at all, and Seylin was too fixed in his own thoughts to want to waste time reassuring the man that he had nothing to worry about...at least, with him.

Did she stick true to the story she had previously told them about being lost? She couldn’t remember and that was going to cause trouble for her if she couldn’t keep her lies straight. She didn’t have that much experience lying after all. Linwe had been one of those children who told her mother everything. There was no reason to lie before. Now her life depended on it.
Seeing the figure of Seylin close the distance between himself and Bringham and her. Wondering what the man was up to, Linwe kept her eyes on him. He pulled something from his bag and then before Linwe could have a say in anything, he was tying a rope around her waist. Linwe wasn’t sure how she felt being close to this person in the first place and now here he was putting rope around her. He must have figured out. He knows the truth and now she was caught.
She was surprised to hear Seylin talk about the ledge instead of how he had figured out her lies. It took a moment but Linwe realized that he didn’t know. This was part of what they would have to do in order to get to the tower. They would have to climb. Relief swept through her as she listened to what else he had to say.
Her dress? She knew that it had been something that had been in the way on her way down from the tower. The added material at the bottom just made things a little heavier and more difficult to move around. She would take his advice and just cut the dress. That way she wouldn’t need to worry about her dress becoming untied in a rather tricky place.
Seylin’s eyes locked onto hers and Linwe was fearful that she might have had a spell put on her for she couldn’t look away. This man frightened her some and the way he was looking at her made her want to just look away. She tried to convey that she wasn’t afraid, that she was actually rather brave despite her fear. One thing was clear, Linwe wasn’t going to run away now, even if she wasn’t tied to a rope.
When Seylin left to hand Bringham some rope, Linwe’s eyes followed him for a bit before she turned to other matters. Taking an arrow from her quiver, she held her hand close to the sharp edge and began cutting her dress by her knee. It might not be proper for a lady to be dressed this way but Linwe didn’t care about that. Right now she just wanted to focus on not falling from the wall again. That was a horrifying experience she did not need repeating.
Linwe listened as Bringham expressed his feelings towards what they were about to do. She thought about offering him some comforting words but what could she say? It wasn’t like she was an expert at climbing walls. That was made apparent earlier today when she was thrown from the side of the tower. Even though Seylin frightened her some, Linwe knew he was the one with experience and she didn’t want to go into anything not knowing what would happen. ”Do you have any suggestions that might make this a little easier?” With the way he had avoided her question earlier, Linwe wasn’t sure if he would answer her this time but she had another question so she might as well ask it. ”How long do you think the climb will be?”

XXXWhen I see you cry ✿✿ It makes me smile ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Hazel wasn’t too happy. First that everyone in the group she had just come across had ignored her and then to top it off, ogres attack. It really put a damper on her day. The people from the group had split off into two directions and Hazel found herself trying to decide which ones to go with. The option to continue on her way and leave these people alone was nonexistent. She must follow them now. She was too interested. At the very least she would have to tell them off for leaving her alone and not even responding to her in the first place.
After much internal debate, Hazel followed in the direction of the one she deemed the scary one and the odd one. She picked up on their trail quick fast and watched them from the trees. There was a new one that had picked up. Some female. Hazel wasn’t too happy that these men talked to her but not Hazel when she had come across them. Still she followed them into the cave and smiled as she kept herself silent.
The scary one was up ahead and the female and followed him and was asking him questions. This left the odd one on his own and Hazel came up behind him and whispered right into his ear. ”What’s going on?” .

_________________________________________________________________ Seylin spent a few moments surveying the edge of the wall for that familiar route with his eyebrows furrowed in concentration and both of his arms crossed about his chest. The man was a studious, professional sort; however, contrary how he looked, Seylin wasn’t actually thinking about the wall. Quite unlike himself, Seylin was thinking about Lily’s eyes. They certainly looked human, they had a human shape; but, there was something strange about them. Like staring into a torch for too long, his mind’s eye seemed burned with their gaze, and he could not forget the gentle intensity that had struck him like lightning when he leaned in to seriously connect their eyes in wordless communication. There was no question in Seylin’s mind that Lily wasn’t human, but he had to wonder what exactly the maiden was. The only race Seylin could think of who would even have an inkling about the inner workings of Toll Cave were merfolk, or otherwise entitled: Water Nymphs.
Still musing the stunning flecks of color in Lily’s startling eyes, Seylin’s jaw tightened ever so slightly in unease as he kept his studious eye on the ridge just to avoid the embarrassment of Bingham noticing the distraction on his face and misinterpreting it for danger. Seylin knew the route like the back of his hand, and he didn’t want to have to keep convincing that human that he was as safe as he possibly could be. ‘ Why on earth would a mermaid live near this accursed place after what happened to…’, At the thought of a distant memory, Seylin clutched one hand to his chest and felt a sharp pain contort the inside of his heart. Since the death of someone quite dear to Seylin, the man had never seen a mermaid in the vicinity in all his years of visiting this cave. ‘ Then again…perhaps I have just lost my ability to sense them in human form.’No…that wasn’t quite right…
Seylin’s eyebrow raised in morbid curiosity as he gently turned his head to peer his strange black and blue eyes towards Lily as she attempted to shave more trimmings from the bottom portion of her gown. While he appreciated that she followed his advice, at the moment Seylin was contemplating far more curious subjects to notice that little detail at the time thus. ‘ Could it be that her mother married a human and made her home on the shoreline? If she never bathes in the salt water, it is easy enough to keep from changing into their natural form when their skin touches freshwater.’, The possibility of an oblivious half-mermaid was becoming more of a possibility, and yet…it didn’t seem quite right. An ‘almost’ sensation tingling in his fingers; but, the man felt like he was missing something. Unable to read her mind, Seylin was unfortunately stalled in his pondering. Unfortunately, when Lily began to speak again, she most likely caught the man in the act of staring at her, and he abruptly turned his eyes away as if to cloak his fascination.
“ Do you have any suggestions that might make this climb a little easier?”, Seylin had never taken the time to notice how sweet Lily’s voice sounded, and a small lump began to form in his throat at the lurking suspicion that he might have been bewitched. That very word draining the color from his face, Seylin’s eyes appeared more blue and human-looking than usual from surprise, and the man cracked his knuckles simply to hide the manner in which his fingers trembled. ‘ She can’t be Sylvanis…She can’t be.’, That thought was too horrible to even dream of, and Seylin hastily looked away and refused to answer Lily’s question because of his momentary distrust.
“ How long do you think the climb will be?”, Seylin’s face remained pale as he held his hand against his chin contemplatively and kept his sight averted to the flowing river right beside them. ‘ Sylvanis would not have hesitated to kill me. Not even for passing sport. She would not have waited this long when she could have struck me from behind while we were walking.’ Even in his most twisted nightmare, Sylvanis would have been more alluring in appearance, and perhaps tried to subtly woo him if she had intended to make a sport of him before sending Seylin to his grave…and Bingham? She would not have had the patience to suffer with his feeble mind for this long. ‘ No…If Lily is a witch than she isn’t Sylvanis.’, but the man couldn’t deny the strange sensation flooding through his veins when he turned his head to look at Lily. She truly was a beautiful creature, and if she was half mermaid, then her magical properties would probably be sprouted from her unconscious mind…and if she didn’t mean to bewitch him, then perhaps she had just been thinking strongly of him, and accidentally shot forth a real sensation that she had felt while their gazes were connected. Conflicted; but no longer distrustful, Seylin finally looked away from the wall and let his eyes drift upon Lily’s face.
“ Just stay close to me so that I can catch you if your foot starts to stumble.”, Bingham began to mumble worriedly about what he was to do if he got clumsy, but Seylin pretended not to hear his barely audible comment. Commanding as always, Seylin raised a shrewd; but, far more compassionate eyebrow at Lily before double-checking that the rope was knotted perfectly round Lily’s waist before daring to lock eyes with her again and read the expression within them. Waiting long enough for his heart to pound and a strange wave of vibrations to flow through his nerves like a breeze, Seylin did not smile before looking away, but his eyes were less dangerous than they usually were. Soft and gentle even though his jaw was just as tight and gruff as it usually was. For some reason, Seylin felt the strange urge to turn his head and stare into Lily’s eyes forever, but that sensation had not been felt in so many years that he felt at odds by the feeling, and thus began to ascend the wall.
“…How…”, Seylin’s voice choked slightly, and the man had to clear his throat. “ How long it takes us to arrive there depends upon Bumbles here; but, there is a tunnel partway up the cliff here for us to stop and rest for a few hours. If we climb the entire range in one jolt, we won’t have any strength to defend ourselves, and I won’t be able to protect…”, Seylin abruptly stopped himself because he was going to say ‘you’ and that was quite a strange loss of judgment for the man to accept all within an hour and a half of knowing the maiden. Seylin was not a fool who fell hard and fast for a woman or even stopped to lock eyes with one for longer than what was polite or required to thieve. While Seylin did not believe he was head over heels for the maiden beside him; he certainly felt a strange, toxically growing, wave of several different emotions building up inside of his chest. Something that had only happened once before, and was thereby an entirely new sensation for his brain to try and comprehend after erasing the old memories of his prior life. ‘ This is madness! Either I am bewitched, or I am simply sensing her feelings.’, As the girl did not seem as remotely intrigued as he was, the man did not believe the latter was completely true, nor did he think he was being intentionally bewitched. He certainly felt the ill taste of being deceived; but, alas, he could not pinpoint the reason why with the emotions in his chest jumbling his brain. Focusing only on their safety, Seylin began to take another step and tap his foot against the old crack in the wall for Lily to place her own foot into after he had withdrawn his own. Nothing would happen to Lily, out of everything he felt, that drive to protect her was the strongest.

_________________________________________________________________ Bingham set to tying the rope around his waist as soon as Seylin handed him a length of the rope. The pure white rope, quite rare indeed if Bingham was going to comment on magical devices, was soft and translucent and Bingham had a hard time trying to form a knot. Making the attempt to knot it three times, Bingham felt his cheeks flush with anger and embarrassment before the rope suddenly seemed to have a mind of its own and knotted around his stomach for him. At first Bingham’s eyes widened in fearful surprise, but then a smile formed on his face. ‘ Wow! That’s a clever little trick!’, Quite curious whether or not the rope had any other magical properties, and what they could possibly be, Bingham began to stroke his fingers against the soft material with the wonder and joy of feeling a freshly polished pearl.
Watching the ledge with some of his doubts wiped clean from the slate, Bingham frowned from being unable to see the roof of this dark and gigantic cave with the dangerous river rushing beside them. As if Bingham wasn’t cold enough already, the young man touched his fingertips against the rocks and quivered his hand backwards as if he had accidentally poked his finger against a bee stinger. Clutching his hands, the man let out a boyish shriek and hobbled in place to blow warm air on his hand.
“ Brrrrrr! Those rocks are cold!”, Bingham mumbled to himself and searched his pockets for something to use as gloves. Seylin, of course, either was invincible to it or too ‘mature’ to show that the cold bothered him when he touched the rocks, so Bingham wrinkled his nose in mock distaste. ‘ Am I the only one perturbed to be here? Cold? Freezing? Lost?’, So long as Bingham had the hope of being warmed by the sunshine again, Bingham honestly didn’t care. Mumbling comments when Seylin began reassuring Lily (how odd was that?), Bingham had been about to start climbing up the cliff after Lily when Seylin called him ‘Bumbles’.
“ Hey!...”, Bingham complained, and had been about to comment further when a voice whispered into his ear:
“ What’s going on?”, Instinctually knowing that it wasn’t Lily talking to him, Bingham shrieked like a girl and nearly jumped out of his skin at seeing a pixie hovering in the air right beside him.
“GAH!”, This strange little woman had scared Bingham close to death with that little comment, and the pain in his racing heart was not at all pleasant to feel curdling within his jumping skin. Seylin seemed to notice the fairy beside him, but he did not respond with fear at the sight of her.
“ What are you doing so far from your homeland forest creature?”, Like always, Bingham thought, Seylin needed more time to warm up to people. While the fairy had scared him, at least Bingham had the common courtesy to want to apologize for Seylin’s protective tone of voice.
“ Woah Ms. Fairy! You near scared me out of my skin!”, Only then registering that the fairy asked a question, Bingham blushed from embarrassment and stopped trying to hold onto the wall so tightly. The danger was over, and he wouldn’t fall just yet.
“ Seylin believes there is a way to the black tower through this cave, and we’re going up there to rescue Princess Linwe.”, Bingham sent the pretty pixie a warm little smile.

Linwe waited for an answer that would never come from Seylin. Why did she think that he would be helpful to her? It was obvious that he didn’t really want her with them. The only reason he was having her along was probably because Bringham would have insisted. Maidens shouldn’t be off on their own, after all. Linwe couldn’t understand why. She had been on her own all her life, well, except for her mother who visited as often as she could and occasionally Malach. But that didn’t matter, she felt like she was on her own most of the time. It was something she was used to. It was hard for her to imagine why these two men would go through the trouble to taking her along when it just proved to be a lot more work.
Seylin hadn’t answered the first question, why would he answer a second from her? Linwe simply asked the question because it had been on her mind. Sometimes when she spoke a question out loud, Linwe could find the answer for it. Of course, it wasn’t like she was a skilled knight able to climb walls. In fact, that was something she definitely wasn’t good at. Finally giving herself time to think about the actual deed in front of her, sent chills up her spine. She didn’t want to climb the wall. This was the same mountain that she had fallen from. The one she was convinced would cause her death once her fingers slipped from the side.
Closing her eyes slightly to gather strength, Linwe opened them and focused her attention on Seylin. She was surprised to find that his gaze had shifted from the wall to her. She was convinced that he was going to ignore her. Then what actually came out of his mouth surprised her. He was actually giving her advice on what to do and saying that he would help her if she were to stumble. This surprised her. Why would he go through that trouble? He couldn’t have discovered who she was. If he had then they would be heading the opposite direction of where they were going now. She was useless to him and he knew it so why bother keeping her safe? She watched him curiously as he double checked the rope around her waist. She wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do so she just stood there and then Seylin locked eyes with her. Linwe knew she wanted to show her strength in her gaze at the moment. She had the strong urge to prove to Seylin that she was weak, that she was strong and could handle herself. But she knew the fear of climbing the wall was looming over her. All she could hope for was that it wouldn’t be the only thing he saw.
By the time Seylin looked away, Linwe thought that just maybe Seylin didn’t hate her. Then he surprised by actually answering her second question, explaining what they would be doing. When he called Bringham that name, Linwe turned to look him. She felt bad that these two didn’t seem to get along very well. She offered Bringham a small smile before turning her attention back to Seylin. She started to follow him up the wall, slowly placing her foot where Seylin marked to be the right stop. She hoped that Bringham was doing alright as well but she couldn’t bring herself to look down. She had trouble trying to look where she must to have safety climbing the wall. She wanted to just hold the wall and close her eyes, never moving because of the danger it might hold. Still with shaky hands she slowly continued on.
When Bringham made a noise that, frankly, scared Linwe to the point of letting go, she clung to the wall tightly, her eyes closing shut for a brief moment. When she had finally found the strength to open her eyes, she saw this strange little women flying near them. She had no idea where this thing came from or what it was. Seylin made a comment to the creature which the creature didn’t seem to like very much. Bringham called her Ms. Fairy. Was that what she was? Then Bringham reminded her why they were scaling the wall. That these two were trying to find her… only they didn’t know that she was actually with them. Either way Linwe didn’t like it.

XXXWhen I see you cry ✿✿ It makes me smile ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Hazel wasn’t too happy about the comment from the scary one. So she chose to ignore him. He wasn’t worth her time anyway. But she did pay more attention to the odd one. She laughed when he made the terrified sound after she spoke to him. He was fun. Hazel wanted to stick around simply for him because she knew she would entertained. The odd one spoke of the mission to go rescue the princess. Of course, she had heard other travelers attempting the same thing. It all ended the same and Hazel thought it was too much to bother with.
The new female that had joined these two interested Hazel. She floated up to where she was and turned her head as she looked at her. Then she started laughing. ”Well look at you! You are absolutely terrified, clinging to that thing.” Hazel had to stop talking to laugh at how silly she thought this girl looked. ”What’s the matter? Afraid you are going to fall?” She zoomed right at the girl as if she was going to push her from the ledge. This just caused Linwe to cling to the rock wall tighter which, in turn, caused Hazel to have another laughing fit. ’Oh she’ll be fun too.’
She turned to the other two men and an idea hit here. ”You know, I have a better idea for the two of you. It would save you a trip up this mountain and the end goal would still be the same.” The mischievous grin appeared on her face as she continued to tell them her little plan. ”No one truly knows what the Princess Linwe looks like, and for all anyone knows, the witch could have killed her already.” Hazel noticed the female looking at her with a questioning look. Well Hazel knew one thing, this girl was either going to love or hate her plan. Hazel didn’t care which way it went. It would be fun for her either way. Maybe the second one would be better, over all, so Hazel silently hoped she wouldn’t like it.
”Why not take this young maiden and claim her to be the princess? No one would know the difference. She looks to be the right age as the princess might be… Everyone would win.” The girl’s face showed a great fear at Hazel’s idea. This pleased Hazel well enough. The fear at what Hazel had said was greater than what she saw to be the fear this female had while climbing this wall. Hazel waited to see what would happen from what she stirred up. She felt herself bouncing from the joy of it.

_________________________________________________________________ Bingham could only watch as the fairy fluttered away towards Seylin and Lily. Too curious about the pretty fairy to focus on anything else, Bingham let go of the wall (he was only a step off of the ground anyway) and put his hands in his pockets. Raising his head to keep watching a little scene developing overhead in the dim lighting. With the rope beginning to glow, the lamp could be put out and hidden, and so Bingham took the task upon himself and blew out the lamp before looking back at the fairy, who was looking at Lily and giggling.
“ Well look at you! You are absolutely terrified, clinging to that thing.”, Bingham’s forehead crunched together in a brief show of irritation. This fairy wasn’t very nice, and Bingham was having enough trouble with one grump as it is.
“ What’s the matter? Afraid you are going to fall?”, Bingham felt a snort expel under his breath. ‘ She would be crazy not to--’, Bingham had started to think to himself when Seylin’s hand moved from the rock to the top of Lily’s hand. As if to make sure her hand didn’t slip off of the crack in the rocks that she was holding. That was so…caring, that Bingham felt his eyes widen. ‘ Well, well, well! I knew Seylin was nice under all that ice.’ The fairy then zoomed towards Lily, and Bingham about screamed at her when Seylin just squeezed Lily’s hand more and shot a very evil look towards the fairy. Then the fairy turned to glance at both him and Seylin, and Bingham started waiting for a joke to be directed towards him.
“ You know, I have a better idea for the two of you. It would save you a trip up this mountain and the end goal would still be the same.”, The fairy’s face lit up mischievously, and Bingham began to dread what was going to come out of her mouth next. “ No one truly knows what the Princess Linwe looks like, and for all anyone knows, the witch could have killed her anyway.”, Bingham felt a hint of despair creep up into his throat, and he looked at Seylin for some kind of reassurance that the fairy had to be wrong; but, Seylin’s eyes were cold and professional. He didn’t look like he was even going to give the fairy the time of day.
“ Why not take this young maiden and claim her to be the princess? No one would know the difference. She looks to be the right age as the princess might be…Everyone would win.”, Everyone would win? How would everyone win? Lily was very pretty, but she was a friendly acquaintance who he had gotten to know only in a ‘temporary friend’ kind of way. Whoever rescued princess Linwe got to have her hand in marriage, and the idea of marrying Lily as ‘Linwe’ well…it just didn’t sit right with Bingham. He was a terrible liar! If they had any kind of magical proof to tell if she really was the princess and she failed, he would be in a great deal of trouble! Possible life sentence in the tower dungeon, or banishment from Gildur! The king would certainly think it to be a cruel joke, and they would just be seen as greedy bandits by the entire kingdom! Bingham thought of how his mother would react to such news, and felt his heart grow heavy at the thought. Bingham had only come along for Sir Amhurst, and his friend might have been eaten by Ogres for all he knew…The money wasn’t worth it to him; but, Seylin was always so professional and driven…he might…not see this solution as a bad thing. Bingham just had vibes from the man that he was probably excited about the thought of money. Worried, Bingham looked up at Seylin, who looked towards the wall as if he couldn’t share eye contact with Lily. Like he was actually considering it.

_________________________________________________________________ Seylin instantly despised the fairy’s (nay, imp’s) personality the moment that her comments reared their ugly heads. This fairy was going out of her way to torture Lily, and Seylin didn’t think of the consequences before his expression became stern towards the fairy…and his hand drifted from the rock he was holding to press over Lily’s own. Perhaps it gave the wrong impression, but to be frank Seylin didn’t honestly care what conclusions that annoying little imp came up with in her chestnut-sized little head. If the rumors were true, then fairy’s were so small that they could only feel one emotion at a time, and their thoughts (though as complex as a human) were usually directed towards one thing at a time because it was easier to process. ‘ Her goal is to be amused.’ , and Seylin did not approve of their group being teased and tormented because a little fairy had nothing better to do than follow them.
“ What’s the matter? Afraid you are going to fall?”, Seylin didn’t think when he saw the fairy zooming towards Lily, he just saw a flicker of worry flash over Lily’s features and that was all the incentive he needed to react. Moving his body a step, rather hurriedly, to wrap his left arm almost around her body to be a ‘safety net’ in case she fell. Seylin only realized how close they were after he moved in heroic fashion, and his black and blue eyes were once again trapped in Lily’s eyes with a concerned expression wiping away his usual callous seriousness. ‘ You’re too close. Don’t scare her more than the forest nymph has.’, ignoring the invigorating icy sensation that flooded from his chest from being so close to the half-breed female, Seylin slowly moved his body away when he knew for sure that her grip was secure and pretended that he hadn’t just been staring into her eyes. Using his energy to direct distrusting stares at the fairy.
“ You know, I have a better idea for the two of you. It would save you a trip up this mountain and the end goal would be the same.”, Did that nut-head have a valid idea? Seylin had no intention of giving heed to anything that a complete stranger’s advice. He had his own goals and plans, and he was wise enough to know the best course of action for everyone involved. His group wouldn’t be wounded at all if he could help it, even that stupid fairy (though she wasn’t a member of their troupe just for popping up out of nowhere). Raising an eyebrow, to pretend to be interested, Seylin kept waiting for her to get to the point.
“ No one truly knows what the princess Linwe looks like, and for all anyone knows, the witch could have killed her already.”, Unlike Bingham, Seylin did not seem to be effected negatively by this news. His face simple flashed with a simple ‘hmm, that’s interesting’ momentarily etched into his features. Noticing that the fairy was looking at Linwe, Seylin looked directly at Lily’s face and felt his stomach squeeze like someone had punched him in the stomach. Lily looked like someone had just insulted her best friend or sister, like she disbelieved that the fairy could possibly know anything whatsoever about Sylvanis the red witch. Staring deep into Lily’s eyes while she was looking away at the fairy, Seylin suddenly began to understand and fit a few of the pieces of his earlier puzzle together.
Lily had been found in the river. She didn’t seem to be quite human, and she said she lived with her family nearby…in the middle of nowhere in Ogre territory (without knowing a thing about Ogres). She also agreed to join their quest as if she didn’t understand chivalry in the slightest. Lily seemed to give the impression of being raised in a tower, and when Seylin was going to laugh the thought away, he remembered the magical power he felt from her charming eyes, and the color left his face. Staring at Lily as if she was an entirely different person, Seyling believed he understood. Either Linwe had been raised as Sylvanis’ daughter, and she was defensive of the person she believed to be her mother, or Sylvanis did have a child or servant who had either tried to run away or fallen from the tower and needed the help to get home. ‘ Time will tell what is really true.’ , for now, Seylin could only keep the idea on the back burner and focus on the task at hand. Thankfully the fairy kept talking, and his eyes flickered from the brand new Lily to the fairy. His mood considerably less pleasant than usual.
“Why not take this young maiden and claim her to be the princess? No one would know the difference. She looks to be the right age as the princess might be…Everyone would win.”, Seylin actually chuckled a dark little chuckle as he took a strong glance at Lily. ‘ Interesting, the fairy is smarter than I imagined her to be.’, It was a pity that she was too small to be a good thief, he would adore to have someone so resourceful back in Vioden on his team. But alas, that same fairy expected an answer, and Seylin decided to seriously contemplate the matter. ‘ If Bingham wants to save the princess, he and Lily could very well start heading to the castle while I climb to the tower…’, But then…could Bingham truly handle himself across so many days in the country if those Ogres (or worse…Goblins) decided to make a return visit? Bingham was hopeless, he would have to go with them and join in with the lie.
A very bitter taste coated Seylin’s tongue, and the strange (perhaps fearful) pleading look that he thought Lily was sending into his eyes made him feel so strange and conflicted that he knew he could not keep staring into her eyes without his judgment being clouded by the emotions present within them. ‘ What girl in her right mind wouldn’t wish to be the princess? Who wouldn’t wish to be secure for the rest of their lives and be adored by the people?’, For certain magical tests would prove that Lily wasn’t the princess; but, then again…she did have features that resembled both Anariel and Rudolfos. ‘ No. Sylvanis would not have killed the princess when I know she wants to be able to use the power that the elves gave the royal family. It would be far wiser to lock her away in some tower and give her love and affection; trick her into thinking she’s adored, and then using her weapon while her ‘child’ remains oblivious to its purposes.’
Seylin remained quiet for so long that he thought the fairy was getting irritable because of the dely, and so in the effort to sway his thoughts, Seylin looked down at Bingham’s face to try and decipher what the blonde blacksmith wanted to do. If Bingham looked excited, Seylin might have seriously considered escorting the boy and Lily from this dreadful cave, but Bingham seemed very apprehensive and uncertain in all his looks. As if that didn’t reveal his feelings enough, Bingham gently shook his head back and forth, and a very evil smirk formed on the right corner of his mouth as he started to climb up the wall. Seemingly ignoring the fairy for a moment (to his own amusement) before his movements ceased and he turned his head to look at the fairy. His eyes more black than blue.
“ If I had no plans at the black tower, your idea would be quite preferable indeed little fairy.”, Seylin chuckled, and it sounded a bit more complimentary than usual. “ But I have unfinished business with the Red Witch. Another of our group, Sir Amhurst, was the one determined to bring Princess Linwe back to her family, and if that goal to reunite families was the original intention of this mission, Lily is not an orphan child who is looking for a home.”, Seylin pinned his blue and black eyes on Lily’s beautiful face, his eyes soft and considerate of her feelings on the matter.
“ You mentioned living in the country with your mother, didn’t you? I don’t see why you wouldn’t have everything you need with your own flesh and blood.”, Seylin looked away, a strange pain on his face for a moment before he began to take another step up the wall and abruptly stopped. Turning his head again to look at the fairy.
“ but…if you really are as bored as you sound, you could make yourself useful and fly up to that tunnel there.”, Seylin pointed with his right hand pointer finger towards the very tunnel he planned for them to rest in when they reached it.
“ Then fly through it until you see sunlight pouring through the ceiling. A hole might be large enough for you to squeeze through. If you could just peek in a few windows on the tower and see if you can find any princesses, it might make this entire mission redundant.”, Seylin sent the fairy a sly little smile, as if challenging the fairy that she wasn’t brave enough to do it.
“ We’ll wait in the entrance of that cave for you to return, and if there is no princess, then I was wrong about her being held here, and we can all make the journey home.”, Leaving out the important detail that he had an important task at the tower, Seylin started climbing the rock wall, stopping every three steps to lower his hand and see if Lily needed any help finding the proper stepping gaps. Remembering the strange silver chain and pendant underneath his tunic, Seylin knew he couldn’t allow himself to make this journey for the two hundredth time with the gem still absent. ‘ Sylvanis will not get away with using me. Never again will I be so easily fooled by a pretty face.’, and focusing on the task at hand, he ignored Bingham’s bumbling about little shrieks because he knew that the rope would protect them if they should slip.
