Personality/background summery:
Silence was not raised among other wolves or within the chaotic wilds. He was found as an orphaned puppy by a monk and raised to take over the duty of keeping the sheep and guarding the boarders. He was always a tolerant, patient sort. Uncertain of himself and his skills, Silence is very shy around his kind and while he's not unskilled at hunting or fending for himself, he's extremely hesitant. He delights in music and has a golden voice.

I didn't know my pack either. I have very little to tie me to them or their ways. All I know is that I was left behind... I like to think that perhaps it was a necessity on their part but there's no point in dwelling on it. I survived whatever turmoil brought me to the church and I was found by a two-legged creature with soft hands and a warm voice.
I was given a name and a symbol of a domestic animal. They fed me scraps of their meals and kept me indoors. I slept on a floor made of stone beside a pit where fire was controlled by the hands of my saviors. I never knew the hardship of a stormy night or the ache of hunger. I had no reason to fear them...and I made sure they had no reason to fear me."

There, an older dog would keep watch over the monk's sheep. He had lived there his entire life and knew the flock well. Over his lifetime, many generations had come and gone. His hide bore the scars of my kin, scars from the claws of the wild cats, and scars from even the sheep. As he grew older, he was unable to perform his duties. Between him and the commands of my human, I learned to keep watch over the flock.
My happiest days were those I spent overlooking the sheep from the hilltops, listening as the praise of the monks rose up from the stone structures into the night sky. My elderly companion would tell me stories of his bold fights against the wild wolves who sought to make an easy meal out of the flock. He told me of the humans we served and a little of their faith. In those days- I could not imagine a world of cruelty and hardship.
But... it was not to last."

"A pack had been flushed out of their territory, pinned between the territories of man and the fangs of rival packs. Desperation thinned their bodies and dulled their coats. The survivors of the long trek from the high lands were mad with hunger. For weeks, the old shepherd and myself fended off the boarders of the pasture. While the shepherd was old and I was still young, we had our wits about us and the strength to hold our ground. The battles were short-lived, but our shows of strength soon became little match for the madness of hunger and the driving force of desperation.
The shepherd was felled when his body gave out in the heat of battle. His elbows had been bothering him, and in a crucial moment they failed him. I soon found myself facing the fangs of three half-starved wolves, each and every one of them willing to give their lives for just a mouthful of meat.
I was no match for them... my body was larger, stronger, and younger- but I was inexperienced. I was wounded badly, and left for dead. The sheep cried out in the night as they were slaughtered and hauled off, some of them still alive. I couldn't bare to face my master in the wake of my failure... I was taught to go after them. To bring them back...
I feared if I returned to my master without his sheep, he would send me out of his sight. I couldn't bear to see the look in his eyes... so I followed the rogues into the wild lands. I searched for weeks, eating only mouthfuls at a time. Rabbits, mice, birds- whatever I could catch for myself. Soon my proud golden coat dulled, my body thinned, and I became as lowly as the attackers had been. Hunger eventually dampened my resolve and I returned back to the monastery.
When I arrived... rocks were hurled my way. They took up their staffs and charged, screaming and swearing. I was forced to run from them... I could only imagine what they thought. My flight was my downfall. Assuming I had gone wild, perhaps even killed my flock, I had no choice...
I became a lone."
