{Okay. XD}
"If there's any justice in the world, you'll end up knee-deep in horse dung to pay off drinking debts." Elaaya sneered, now glaring daggers at the man with the unusual accent. "Regrardless of that, I'm recruiting for the expeditions into DulMarat. Not like this applies to you any, since that cheap bit of tin you're carrying looks like it'd shatter the moment you swung it wrong." After this bit of snarkiness, she turned her gaze back to the man whom she'd spoken to previously, while still inside the tavern. Her expression changed back to that of boredom as she spoke, "Thank you for speaking out for me, but it isn't necessary. Now, if you'll both kindly excuse me, I've got to get back inside. I'm being payed by the hour, you know." That last bit was a lie, but hopefully it would be enough for that annoying foreign man to leave her alone.

Calcifer chuckled and pulled his hammer away. "Yer either brave or stupid. Either way, Ah like yer attitude. However-" His gaze turned to the mage. "This weapon was m'father's. Insult mah if ye want, but say nothin' 'bout this. " He gazed down at his weapon for a moment before realizing what the woman said. "Yer goin' to DulMarat? That's near the mountains, ye got clearance from the Kori to dig aroun' there? Ye happen into one of their tunnles, an' it's yer head." He knew that the Kori claimed anything under their land, but if they didn't gaurd it well enough, they weren't meant to have it anyway. "Y'know, Ah was headin' that way m'self, but got lost on the way. If ye can get mah to the mountains, Ah can get ye to DulMarat. Yer gonna need a Kori that knows his tunnles, or yer as good as dead." Calcifer may not have been from that area, but he knew his way through the underground as good as someone who's lived their whole life there. But being above ground was a different story. Everything looked the same and he had no idea where he was going.

For his part Geir breathed a sigh of relief. He hadn't really intended to die when he woke up that morning. He slid his knife back into his pocket.
Then he stepped back and listened. He was curious what these two might know about DulMarat.

Somehow, Elaaya knew that small lie wouldn't work. With yet another sigh she turned around once more, facing the unusual man as well as the docile one. "I have no clue who these 'Kori' are. All I know is that the council of Magii is getting antsy about peasants obtaining these artifacts and they've started funding an expedition into the tunnels of DulMarat. Because, of course, gods forbid a peasant actually making themselves useful." Elaaya spoke with slight irritation in her voice, moreso about the fact that she had to go on this blasted thing than anything else. Towards the end, her sarcasm made itself rather evident. "If you want to come without being hunted by the council, you'll need to sign up as part of the expedition crew itself. I'm the interviewer right now, since Daara is too busy visiting the whores to actually do her job. Thankfully, I just have to ask if you if you can fight, use magic, cook in sparse conditions, or take plenty of abuse. If any of the above apply, assuming you can follow orders when given, you're more than qualified to come along."

Calcifer started to argue that he was only showing them through the tunnles, and wanted nothing to do with the mage's task, but he decided that he should simply stay quiet and nod. "Calcifer GearHammer, at yer service. Ye don't look like ye much muscle on yer side. Ah should be of use to ye."

The mage was tempted to make a smart comment somewhere along the lines of 'excellent, that means I'm here to make up for your lack of brains.' Instead, she just offered a bitter smile and introduced herself as well. "My name's Elaaya, Elaaya Mortus. My family specializes in death and destruction magic, but in a pinch, I could probably do some light magic as well." Now she placed her hands on her hips, adding in with a small scowl, "Don't expect me to do any hand-to-hand combat or sweet-talking. If I could do either, I wouldn't be here to begin with."

Calcifer turned his attention to the other man. He'd returned to being quiet after defending the girl. He studied him for a moment, but couldn't get a read off of him. Finally, he nodded his head to the man and ran his dark, tattooed hand through his cloud white hair. "Will this one be joining us as well?"

"I would like to," Geir said to both of them. "I still need to know about the arrangements. How are we traveling, and what exactly are we intending to do?"

"By elemental, of course." To be more specific, Elaaya meant an odd sort of wheel-less wagon, one carried by stone elementals operated by earth mages all the way to whatever destination the casters had in mind. Said wagon would often consist of either finely carved stone material or strong and sturdy wood, depending on how rich and resourceful the owners were. Since this is under order and employ of the council, it was more likely to be builed of stone than of wood. "As for what we're doing, we're going to search through the deep tunnels of DulMarat for ancient artifacts, ones supposedly more advanced than most of the councilmen's magic. Peasants near the area have been getting their grubby paws on a few choice bits, and have been getting rich enough to rival the monetary power of a high-class mage. The council is livid about this, like anything else really, and want to hoard all the good bits for themselves."

"I appreciate it," Geir said. "My name is Geir, by the way. And I would like to come along. I hope I don't have to sign anything."
He said it and wondered how Elaaya really felt about these "peasants" and the things they were finding.
"By the way," he said. "What happens to the people who find these things? Does your council punish them?"
He was naturally interested to see what sort of things he might be allowed to keep, himself, and just how legal those things would be considered.

"The council cannot punish them legally, else it'll be murder for public relations. Or what little there is, at least. So instead of actively punishing them, they're just spiking taxes once again and sending whichever lackey they can to loot whatever artifacts we can before any peasants get to them. However, if they catch anyone of employ sneaking some off without permission, they'll probably try to have you be privately executed." Elaaya replied, rolling her eyes at the mention of public relations going any lower, as if it possibly could. "As soon as I head back inside to my post, I'll be able to give you both a small metal badge - one that explicitly states to businessmen anywhere that you're on official work from the council. When our ride arrives, present it to the elementalists and they'll know that I sent you. If you abuse it and start using it to get discounts in the places near here, the council will also execute you for that."

Calcifer sighed heavily, which caused a great amount of smoke to rise, and scratched his head. Oi, Ah suggest we get some rest before headin' out. This man has probably been under Marthammor Duin's watch for some time, and Ah know that Ah need to recharge my items before we set out. Ah bet even ye want some rest before leaving yer home for a long while." In truth, Calcifer just really wanted a nap, but he decided to throw the wants of himself onto others. [Marthammor Duin is the Dwarven God of Travelers by the way, just so ya know.]

"It works for me," Geir said. "I'd like to do some things in town before we head out. I assume we'll start in the morning? I'll be there, whenever we leave."
Then he left, and went to find a room for the night, something cheap and out of the way. He had to think about all of this, and he wasn't sure what he was going to do.

{Okay.}
"If I had a home to return to, I wouldn't be here recruiting for some lousy expedition I could care less about, now would I?" Elaaya thought bitterly to herself. Instead of saying such things out loud, however, she instead replied, "It doesn't matter what I want. The council will have my head on a pike if I don't complete every minute of work assigned to me. Let me get your badges before you go off, though, unless you can track me down again later before my shift ends and before the elementalists arrive."
