The owlcat was midway through his leap for the blossoms when Hero moved, sending the small critter into the muck and coating him with brown. The baleful yowls made Charm giggle at her vain pet, and she walked over to the sulking Talisman and lifted him from the mire. "Thank you, Hero, for helping me retrieve my owlcat," she said around the mouthful of fur and skin as she carried him to the pile of protective bits and dropped him. "Kindly start working on the loops, please, Talisman, and we'll forget your previous shredding." There was an implied threat in her words to her pet, and the mud-coated owlcat merely glared his assent and set to work.
"Vines are ever helpful in charm making, thank you," she told Hero graciously. "They work for necklaces and for simple strands, and one can never have too many of them."

The bright buck could not help but slightly admire (and be somewhat envious) of the relationship between Lucky Charm and her Talisman. Maybe one day he could have such a great working understanding with a pet or familiar. But, today was not that day, and he doubted one would be willing to stick with him as he set out. And now with Lucky Charm making him something to help and protect him - well, there was no better time to start!
But this was the here and now, and he was getting slightly itchy from not having anything to do while Lucky Charm made him something - so when she gave him a job to help her out, he sprang on it with enthusiasm.
"Oh, yes! I can do that!" And he did, Hero jumped (with a little too much bounce in his step) around to the trees in the area with hanging vines and collected what he thought might be some of the best specimens.
When he returned to Lucky Charm, he has an assortment there for her. They were of short, long, medium lengths; and of all the colors the vines could come in - brown, dark green, light green, and the like. Some even still had tiny sprouts and flowers. It was obvious that he might have overdone it - but he was just so happy to be of assistance.
Hero gave his offering to Lucky Charm with a brilliant grin.

"Oh, you found quite a few, didn't you," Charm commented, accepting the mass of vines and slinging them over her back before checking on Talisman and adding a poppy blossom to the knot the owlcat was creating. "These will come in most handy, thank you!" She beamed a bright smile at Hero, and hummed in appreciation before placing the songbird feather to be woven into the vine. "Almost, almost," she said, placing the teeth.
She continued to add bits and pieces to the charm, nudging the protective items into place and allowing her pet to tie them into the vine necklace. It wouldn't be too long before the project was finished, but Charm took her time; she'd rather enjoyed speaking with this buck, and so wished to prolong their time together. She would get lonely again, when they went their separate ways, though she had Talisman( but the owlcat couldn't talk, and she liked talking, and missed her brother fiercely now that he had become independent of her).

Hero watched, mesmorized by the skill and ability of both Lucky Charm and her little Talisman. Even if he tried, he could not repeat what she did. As she finished with one part, and moved to the next, it was almost as he could read the messages in the charm and discerne the meaning.
But he wasn't silent, he asked small questions about her family and told her about his own - even though they were all separated and he has little memory of them: even his twin was little more than a whisper anymore. He also talked about his lifelong dream of his Quest, that would take him far and wide - and allow him to help those in need (even if it meant nothing more than his own satisfaction in helping others). He also talked about his fears of all the unknowns and hardships he might encounter.
"Did you want to come? I could start today, when you are done. It can be fun!" Hero grinned broadly and genuinely.

His invitation to join in on the heroic quest set her back a moment; no one had ever asked her to accompany them, only for her charms, which truly she felt were a tiny piece of her. But though pieces scattered far and wide across the swamp never spoke to her; they only did their duty and eventually wore out and snapped into pieces.
She'd not had an adventure since that dreadful flood where she and Night had retrieved some foundering foals. The idea was inviting yet slightly terrifying. When she was with Night, she knew what he could and could not do; similarly, he knew her limits. But this unknown, chattery buck?
She decided while Talisman was tying the final knot. "Oh, why not? It sounds like it could be a bit of fun." So saying, she offered the completed charm necklace to Hero, sliding it over his head.

He had a charm, a talisman to protect him and watch over his hide for his Quest. Step one was complete. Hero was overjoyed, for he would have company now! "Now, the next thing I need is a Blessing. A Legendary would be perfect, a maiden to send me on my Quest."
"Oh, this is great! I have heard of one that is always around... with the Tidewalkers, but I don't recall her name. I guess I will head towards the shore." Hero lifted his nose and sniffed the air - pretending he knew where to go. He took a step where he thought was towards the Tidewalkers. "This way!"
And with that, they travelled for a while until they heard something about The Games. What other adventures awaited them both?
