He could feel Phil's eyes on him, watching, waiting. Hoping. Like he wanted something from Theo, something that only he could give. To be polite? Theo could handle that. To be nice? A bit more difficult, but possible. To get along with this strange man? Somewhat more difficult seeing as Theo was rather ambivalent towards him as of now. Theo prided himself on being perceptive, to see through people. But... Kyu. The man gave him a strange feeling, not one he'd encountered before. He couldn't place a finger on it. how he felt towards Kyu. The man was strangely difficult to read. Almost as if he was not quite there, and yet still there. A shade, a shadow. It was there, but not quite either, and that left Theo rather perturbed. Almost as if Kyu himself didn't know who he was. Theo mulled over this as he sat there, clearly far away.

Theo forced a wry grin at Kyu's words. "I suppose not, since you'll have outstripped me in every aspect." Theo responded. "However, if you would like me to show you what I do know, I'll need some open space. Well, a lot. Just as a precaution." He knew the risks of playing with fire. Much as he disliked Lumena, he had no inclination to set it on fire either. That would simply cause too much hassle. "But I guess some of the basics should be okay." Theo looked around the terrace one more then decided the far end was safer, where there was nothing to catch fire. Save for the railing of the balcony. And that ought to be solid enough to not catch fire, or so Theo believed.

Rising from his chair, Theo walked over and closed his eyes, concentrating. Slowly, he let his instincts take over as he went through the most basic of his forms, blue flames dancing around him. They were just basic forms, but Theo could still feel that thrill that came from seeing the flames doing as he bid, the need for him to do this every day. The day he forgot his basics would be the day he let the flames out of control. They were very important, and his teacher had stressed the point, emphatically so. Slowly, he began moving through other forms, each one somewhat more complicated than the last in a thousand different ways.

The blue flames cast a blue sheen over everything within range as they burned, dancing in a melody only they knew. Slowly, Theo exhaled and let the flames blaze brightly before they disappeared. "And that's just about the basics of what I know." Theo said simply, walking back to his chair. The fire had been full of life, burning brightly as it leaped and jumped in his hands. It was pure magic.

Of course Phil was expecting the most; he had hopes, hopes he knew he might never see realized, but at the off chance his teacher could keep his brother together, keep him from falling apart... perhaps he'd also be eventually able to come closer to him as well, as a family... maybe one day he'll be able to look him in the eye and tell him everything, explain what he did and why he did it and when there would be no secrets keeping him down with their weight then perhaps everything would be better; for him, for Theo -especially Theo. Phil could live with that darkness, he could live with that memory; he had grown strong ever since that time but Theo was different and that was what scared him, scared him terribly.

Kyu himself had never meant to flaunt his own abilities; after all he had always treated all of his adversaries equally. No matter how small or insignificant they seemed, the moment one would underestimate their opponent was the moment their battle would be lost. Being superior didn't always mean you'd win, after all. The smartest or the fastest had always more chances in a battlefield. Everything about Theo felt like pure strength, however. By the way he moved, and the way he behaved and the stories he'd heard; by the feel of his magic and the flame burning in his eyes Kyu could tell that he was most likely a person who went on most likely all-out offense. A strong attack was good but it couldn't win a battle on its own; Kyu would have to learn to work with it, to temper that flame. He could tell of Theo's potential even without looking twice, he needn't see him in action to be able to tell as much.

"I'm not exactly concerned about that..." Kyu laughed quietly, sitting better on his chair preparing himself for the show to come, his head slightly tilted to one side as in an attempt to rest his neck. He wouldn't go all out on a student in any case. The point wasn't to beat them senseless but to teach them; and it was hard to teach when your subject was unconscious, after all. "Please, help yourself." Kyu offered with an extended arm pointing at the rather spacious terrace, if he needed more space they could move to the back of the house but he wasn't as comfortable moving down there as things were right now and it would be more dangerous seeing how from what he had heard of Phil his brother's magic had to do with fire.

Kyu watched intently as Theo performed and if he were just a little more focused on the beauty of it all and less on the exact forms the young witch was conjuring he might have been entranced by the elusive grandeur of fire. He found the thought that he could entirely remove their beautiful light albeit leaving them with all their destructive power as they were slightly fun if not a little sad. At least he could fully understand the basic principles under which his power worked. Fire and light had some connection after all, and even though his own light wasn't exactly bright it was still warm at its core, heat and fire went hand-in-hand in the end.

"That's commendable strength there," he acknowledged the effort Theo had put in learning all of his forms and smiled gently. "Elemental magic is hard to master, but I'll be glad to be able to help you if you so desire." he gathered a small orb of light and set it to float over the table with an amused expression on his face. "Although, I won't lie to you. We have a long way ahead, a lot of work, a lot of pain... you can't ascend in a different manner, after all. Nobody can." he shook his head and reached his hand for his cup for another time. "I will teach you, Theo, as long as you're willing to be stronger." he repeated his eyes watching that other witch slowly.

The hope he could see in Phil's eyes... Somehow they scared him. They looked a little sad but... it seemed rather ominous to Theo. Like Phil was keeping secrets... Secrets of something that he didn't dare divulge. Somehow Theo didn't want to know what it was. Phil would tell him in time, or at least, he hoped so. How many secrets could his twin keep anyways? They told each other almost everything. Besides some of the more private matters Theo cared not to share with anyone. Still, he wondered what was going on through his twin's mind sometimes. He was so often lost in his own thoughts, someplace where Theo couldn't share with him.

Still, back to the present. The other person in the room.. Kyu. He still couldn't quite put his finger on the man. He seemed quiet and pleasant, but there was stil something... No doubt he would be a formidable opponent on the battle field, but something about him seemed not quite right. Something substantial was missing, almost. It threw Theo off, seeing how perceptive he usuallyw as about people. However, perceptive did not mean sensitive. He was horrifically blunt and honest, and oftentimes it just wans't what people wanted. The expected him to empathize, which he rarely did. Being a practical person, he would much rather forget the emotional side of it, find the quickest and best solution to the problem. Instead of allowing your emotions to blur the picture and distort your judgement. There was no purpose to it.

He nodded in acknowledgement of Kyu's praise, his eyes carefully observing everything. Body language, gestures, intonation. He seemed rather pleased. Or at least, Theo would say so. A tiny orb of light floated above the table, illuminating the area with a strange glow. Just slightly a slight tinge of green was cast over the table. Listening to Kyu however, was more important. He could handle pain, he could handle work. That was mostly what he did every day anyways, day in, day out. Endure the pain of pushing his limits beyond what he thought he could. He smiled grimly, inclining his head. "Then I will do my best to show you that I can be stronger than you expect." Theo said, the words soft but deliberate. He would exceed Kyu's expectations and make the most of whatever knowledge that Kyu offered. His eyes were full of determination.

Come what may and hell to pay, he would exceed everyone's expectations of him.

There was something admirable about Theo. Kyu had to admit that much to himself, if to nobody else. The young man was certainly strong, but there were things beyond that strength for one to see if they were willing to. And an observer's role is to look; just enough, from their comfortable safe distance so not to get hurt. Kyu looked a bit too much, perhaps. He was used to the process but people like his students, like Phil especially since to him he was a very special case of an apprentice, made him doubt his approach. His mentality was bending for the better part of the last two years and sometimes he felt like it was just a matter of time; it would take but just a momentary snap of his will to finally cause it to fall and break, shattering into a million glass shards he could never piece back together. Sometimes he wondered if he would even want to when it would eventually come. Evolution isn't exactly a beautiful thing. Perhaps, that would become even more imminent now, threatening him every other day. The prospect of having Theofratus as his student in and on its own had already sent him into deep thought for several weeks on end before he finally arrived at his decision. And he still considered himself lucky to be given the chance to train a Majin student as strong that would perhaps, one day, grow to be what Kyu himself was never able to become.

Time; he decided. He needed time to decide, to see for himself, to explore the possibilities and realize if he were right all along or perhaps not. There was a risk involved. There was always a risk involved to important things in the end. Perhaps everybody would benefit from an arrangement like this; that was the way Phil had put it to begin with. He sat up, brushing a few ebony locks out of his field of vision and held back the sigh that built up within his lungs as he weighed the possibilities, balancing uncertainly in between as he always had before letting himself fall from his spot for the first time in his entire life, making a clean choice as he extended his hand to Theo for a handshake to seal their cooperation.

"I will be looking forward to it, then, Theo." he declared, his tone being slightly more cheerful, he thought, but it might have just been his imagination in any case. "I will try my best as a teacher as well." he wasn't originally meant to be a tutor after all. The fact that people believed in him and his abilities was an unexpected pleasant surprise.

A delicate shift in balance. Theofratus could sense it. Something in the room, the balance was shifting. Things were changing around him, even as he knew Kyu was going to say yes. However subtle the change, Theo could feel it. It hung in the air, ut was everywhere. It was almost tangible, however slight this change was. After all, the only constant in his life thus far was change. He tried to adapt, but certain things couldn't be changed. His viewpoint on majin, on witch eaters. They would forever be etched in his mind. They weren't the best of company to keep. For one's own safety. And he hated them. He hated them with a passion, with a burning fury that drove his every step, taking him closer to the day that he would finally be able to kill them. Make them what they were better off being. Dead. Ghosts. Something that could not change. Time couldn't, people couldn't. Step by step, he was getting closer. And one day, he would be there. After all, this would merely be one step of the ladder. One day he would finally reach the top, the pinnacle of what he was working for.

Kyu... He would be an interesting person to work with indeed. After all, it was intriguing that a distinguished person such as himself would take on students. He didn't seem like someone who would become emotionally invested in a person, however much the person tried. Strange, seeing as he worked with people on a daily basis. For example, Phil was very attached to his teacher and mentor, but Kyu appeared to merely be concerned, perhaps a little fond of Phil. But not much more. He distanced himself, keeping a very clear line as to how much he would allow himself before he would stop. He seemed almost afraid of human contact, of letting his emotions out. Enigmatic puzzle indeed. Allowing your emotions to rein meant being completely and entirely honest with oneself, and most people couldn't handle that. They repressed unwanted emotions, trying to hide behind what they believed was how they felt. What they thought was right. They refused to stop lying to themselves. Then they started believing the lie, believing that they were right and that this was truly them. Slowly, they would lose all sense of self and then lose sight of themselves. That was why so many people found themselves lost, unsure of what they really wanted. And he believed that this was likely the case with Kyu. Hiding from himself, hiding from the world. And then he lost himself completely.

Theo's blue eyes watched Kyu very carefully as he tried to pin Kyu down. There was nothing really, except a shell of a man hiding his true self. Hidden under so many layers that it seemed lost. However, who knew? Perhaps Theo would one day be able to find that man hidden deep inside. "So do I." Theo smiled, reaching his hand out to grasp Kyu's firmly. A sharp shock ran down his arm, almost like electricity. Theo shrugged it off as static, but something else said that it wasn't. Theo's brow creased momentarily before he filed that away under the think about it later section of his mind. "I hope that this will be beneficial for us." Theo's lips curved in a slight smile as he let go of Kyu's hand.

Maybe he didn't know what he was diving headlong into, but nothing came without a risk. And sometimes, it was a risk worth taking.
