On the other hand, as I mentioned, it could just mean they're doing Inferno again.

And since I already said that the US wouldn't be able to pick up on nuances l;ike the Hilsborough references and whatnot, which would make the series in its current form unexportable:

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0787490/

This comes as less of a surprise than it should.

I've a few thoughts, but I'd like to see whatr everyone else thinks first.

Never seen any such American remakes yet, but the only one I've heard remotely well of is The Office.

What concerns me is that in terms of 1970s cop shows, there's a whole world of difference between Starsky and Hutch and The Professionals.

I'd like to think that this could be made into a decently gritty recreation in the model of The Shield, not ashamed to admit that a police force can contain more than one bad apple and be rotten from the top down.

But I'm not counting on it.

Then again, I don't know anything about how life actually was in the US in the 1970s the first place; so it's all just speculation anyway.

Yeah, Starsky had a much cooler car biggrin Sorry, can't help myself.

On topic, I'm not a fan of US remakes, but then again, provided I don't have to watch the end product, hey, knock yourselves out.

This is somewhat late - around 3 weeks late, if not more, in fact. However, one of the few programmes worth the licence fee, Life on Mars, has returned!

And to quote DI Tyler, "Starsky & Hutch has a lot to answer for..." biggrin

The test card girl is as creepy as ever and the now-ubiquitous Marc Warren turned up as well.

If I were made of money, I'd want this so badly...

When the Beeb in its wisdom chose not to run Life on Mars and put football on instead, it made it onto Terry Wogan's breakfast show. I'd have applauded their views, had I not been driving at the time smile

So yes, I've been recording this religiously and I must remember to set the recording for this week, as I shall be abroad...

I'm glad that I'm not the only person with Marc Warren fatigue. stare

Who does his agent have the compromising photos of, and which farm animal's involved? I'm starting to wonder.

But going back on topic: I'll be interested to see how Ashes to Ashes works out. It'll be very difficult to keep Gene as an enigma once he's the lead.

*chokes on fruit tea*

Say that again? There's gonna be a spin-off? What rock was I living under to miss that announcement?? smile

I've had Marc Warren fatigue ever since he got more screen time than Robert Vaughn in "Hustle". Criminal, I tells ya! Still, David McCallum had more sense. He signed up for NCIS and got a very decent role, suitable to his dignity; and his is a very likeable character. In fact, the only reason I started watching was because he was in it - so it's just lucky that the programme is actually quite good.

I've actually got some interesting rumours relating to both Who and LoM/Ashes to Ashes. I'll try 'phoning you over the next couple of nights, if I can get the privacy. smile

I'm afraid you won't reach me for a while, I'm in Spain smile I should be around next week though. I'm hoping the highly time-pressured audit I'm on won't have got that time-pressured yet....

Oh and if the rumours involve Russell T Davies writing for Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes, I'd rather stay ignorant wink

Don't even joke about that! Gene Hunt written by RTD isn't something I want to think about.

I'm on a lunch break at work ast the moment, but I'll type things out in spoiler mode later.

Spoilers (highlight to view):

Basically, I was reading an interview with John Simm in The Independent a couple of weeks ago, and it said that he'd passed on Ashes to Ahes because he felt it was time to move on, but he'd been cast as The Master in Doctor Who.

That wasn't in quote marks, though, so I don't know how trustworthy it is.

End spoilers

There have been a literal ton of rumours on (Spoilers)that Master issue, but nothing so far that suggested Simm himself had said it...
Interesting.

I heard the words spoiler - highlight to read Sir Derek Jacobi in that respect... And they've definitely already cast Kate O'Meara (I think that's who it was) as the Rani, haven't they?
