Violet eyes briefly studied the new Pidgeot - very, very briefly - before returning to her own bird, although her thoughts lingered. A very nice catch for Aulus, and she couldn't help but wonder just how he'd caught her. Pidgeot were strong - not tiny little nearly helpless Pidgey or anything, but then again Aulus wasn't a snot-nosed kid trainer like a lot of them were, so she couldn't really be too surprised. Still, she was beautiful - not that she'd ever dare say that out loud when Odette was within earshot, and that bird could hear a lot more than she sometimes pretended. Still, they had to see how it went..
Odette froze as the other Pidgeot emerged and even -- oh no she didn't. Gold and white wings snapped open as she raised herself to her full height, her long crest raising as well to make her as tall as possible, glaring deathbeams at Red - such a pathetic name. She wasn't pretty at all, not even close, so at least her stupid name matched how stupid she looked and how dare she try to look pretty. A threatening noise - somewhere between a 'pidgeoo' and a hiss of some sort, if Pidgeots could hiss - emerged from the vain bird as she continued to stare daggers into Red, her posture aggressive and daring, just daring the red Pidgeot to question or cross her. She'd rip those ugly feathers out one by one... but she didn't move yet. She'd made her move - back down or die - and now waited for Red to do just that. Preferably the first, though she wouldn't mind giving a good mauling. It'd certainly been a while.

"Uh..." Aulus studied the pair of Pidgeot, holding Red's pokeball ready just in case anything started to go badly... Worse, that was.
Red, as she had been dubbed, was rather taken aback by the display of aggression. Making soothing sounds she smoothed her crest down, clearly not cowed but backing down all the same.
As Red flattened her feathers and crooned something or other Aulus lowered the pokeball slightly and glanced at Claire. "Disaster averted?" he quizzed, trusting her to know her own pokemon's moods.

Odette's glare relaxed into a very hard stare - a confused one, as her less-than-stellar level of intelligence attempted to somehow interpret the strange string of words the other bird was saying. Red had very obviously backed down though, so Odette visibly relaxed and ruffled her feathers, but eyed the other Pidgeot suspiciously. Hopefully that was a proper response to her odd statement, but either way her pride and vanity would never allow her to admit her mental shortcomings, so instead she began to preen her feathers more carefully than usual.
As her bird relaxed, so did Claire, and sighed an affirmation. "Disaster averted." Thankfully. If Red hadn't been as submissive, they would've had a real problem. A bloody, feathers-coating-every-inch-of-sand-in-the-whole-damned-desert sort of problem. And they wouldn't be Odette's feathers, either. "Uh.." How to start? Odette wasn't wild when she'd gotten her, and she'd been a Pidgey. Where should they even start with a fully grown Pidgeot? "Do you know if she's been ridden before? Probably not if she was wild, though she could've escaped from a trainer I suppose..." She mused, watching the pair curiously now that the danger had passed.
Odette continued to watch Red cautiously, with occasional fleeting glances to her owner to make sure her eyes were on her, and not the sorry excuse for a Pidgeot next to her.

Giving another soft chirr Red bobbed a bow to the golden lady, her trainer and in fact most other things totally forgotten; clearly the important thing here was the pretty bird!
"Uh..." Aulus blinked. "No idea. I mean she seems familiar enough with humans I guess, but I caught her so she can't be owned, right? Well, not unless her pokeball was broken or she was released anyway." He'd somehow thought Claire would just rattle off instructions, but he supposed it wasn't that easy and that when it came down she wasn't actually a teacher... Still, he'd rather ask her and fumble through it together than go to anyone else... Fumble though it together... No, no he didn't need his mind running in that direction... Still, if she would insist on looking so damn good - don't look at the boobs, and no not the arse either look at the birds! - he could hardly be expected not to notice...
Aulus looked at the birds.

Odette gleaned enough from the conversation to realize what was going on - or so she'd say, but really Claire had given her a rough idea of what was to happen here earlier that day to attempt to ensure against any mishaps and perhaps make things smoother - so she ruffled her feathers and turned to Red rather haughtily. she informed the other bird matter-of-factly, confident that the other Pidgeot would be ridden whether she liked it or not. Hopefully she'd cooperate willingly - Odette didn't want to put too much effort into this sort of thing.
Claire glanced over at the pair momentarily, one corner of her mouth twitching upwards a bit as she hoped Odette had remembered what she'd told her earlier. ...actually, she hoped Red wouldn't feign good behavior then fly up and fling Aulus off at the last minute. That wouldn't exactly be very productive... "I think having Odette here will be a great help, though I still can't be sure how smoothly this will go since I don't know your bird at all.." And that was what worried her - she knew Odette and trusted her completely, unconditionally. This new bird, though... that was another thing entirely.

Red shuffled her feathers and twisted around to preen at an itch on one wing. He was her human, so it made sense. She didn't doubt she was strong enough, no bird was stronger, but that didn't mean she relished the idea of such a heavy weight on her back. Itch gone the Pidgeot settled her plumage back down and turned her sharp gaze onto Aulus. Why couldn't a small skinny thing have wanted to ride her? Well well, he gave her nice food and spoke well to her so she supposed she couldn't complain overmuch.
"Me either," Aulus shrugged as the birds spoke to one another, "but hopefully she won't try to throw me off in mid-air, that would put a serious crimp in my day." Would Char have delivered the flowers yet? He hoped that Zeus had been left up in Claire's room to answer the door, if not then the whole plan was ruined and he'd have to think of a new one... "So... I guess we just try? Should I let her watch you and Odette first or something?" Sounded better than just jumping in at the deep end, not that he'd admit to feeling any apprehension if asked. Nothing here that a manly man would be scared of, manly men laughed in the face of plummeting to their demise with a wet splat.

The gilded bird craned her neck around to look at the pair of humans before returning to her preening. is your trainer, after all,> she huffed. Some birds could be so dumb sometimes.
Not that she was one to talk.
"Uhh.." Claire frowned, looking at the pair again. "I'm not sure.. You've only ridden once, haven't you? And she hasn't been ridden before.. Maybe you should ride Odette and I'll ride your Pidgeot? It might be easier that way," she suggested with a non-committal shrug. It did make a lot more sense to her. Better to put an inexperienced rider on a seasoned bird than on one who'd never had anything ride her before.
This suggestion, however, garnered another death-beam glare from Odette. Her owner ignored it, knowing full well the bird would obey her regardless of whether she liked it or not.

Red chose to ignore the huffy tones, after all fine ladies were entitled to be a little scathing when they chose... Ah, but it sounded like the female would actually be riding her instead? Well, either way, so long as the lady was there too she didn't mind and that was doubly true if she got something good to eat later as a reward for doing well.
"Uhh... Yea, alright," Aulus nodded, eyeing Odette cautiously. Hopefully she wouldn't be too pissed about the arrangement, last thing he wanted was to ride a pissed off bird that might take it into her head to peck him or something. "Won't be for long," he said to the bird herself, "just until Red and I know what we're doing a bit more... I can't think of any other bird who could do as good a job of teaching me to fly properly than you." Odette being the vain beast she was, maybe a bit of flatters would help to smooth her feathers.

Fortunately for Aulus, Odette had little problem with him as her rider. She didn't like it, but she would do it. What she did have a problem with was the fact her owner, hers, would be riding another bird. Another bird that neither of them knew at all. After a pleased coo at Aulus for his compliments - she was the best one to teach anyone how to fly, obviously - her head whipped around and something akin to a hiss escaped her, her crest raising again as she glared daggers at Red. rip you to shreds,> she finished, her tone absolutely venomous. That done, she moved closer to Aulus and lowered herself, leaning forward so he could get on. She then turned a hard and expectant look on Red to do the same for Claire.
Said agent sighed at Odette, but she could understand her feelings. She'd much prefer riding on her own bird, but in this instance it wouldn't make sense to do so. "Alright," she said as she stepped over to Red but made no move to get on her yet, "wait until she leans down - which she has already - then put your hands on her shoulders and just swing your leg over and get comfortable. You'll get it fairly quickly, I'm sure, it's more intuition than actual learning. Or it was for me, anyway," she added with a sheepish smile. It was true - she much preferred being in the air than on the ground.

Red cooed, Lovely ladies, clearly, were to be honoured above all else, even if you'd only just met them... Humm, right then. Watching Odette carefully Red copied the other bird's posture, and then twisted her head around to regard Claire. "Pidgeoo?" Was this right? She did want to do it correctly, in order to please the lady!
"Right," Aulus nodded and clambered up onto the golden bird carefully but confidently. He'd done this before. No problem. Odette knew what she was doing, so it would be fine. Was he trying to kid himself into being confident? Maybe a little, but it seemed to be working so why question it?

Odette shifted a bit under his weight - nothing she couldn't bear, of course - to a more comfortable position and stayed standing there, her chest parallel to the sands shifting between her talons. Her eyes stayed completely focused on Red, observing her keenly to make sure she didn't do anything she shouldn't that would invariably harm her trainer. So far so good, though, thankfully... Hopefully it stayed that way. It better stay that way, if the other bird knew what was good for her...
In one fluid movement Claire slid up onto the Pidgeot, the fact she barely knew this bird not hindering something that had become second nature, and her fingers curled around the soft feathers. "Make sure your grip's good and tight so you don't fall, but don't hold onto her crest, it could keep her from moving her head properly." And that could be very bad, depending. "Alright, uhh.. Oh, you should have her walk so you get used to it, it's a little awkward.. Just squeeze her sides gently and she'll start walking." Awkwardly. Birds were meant to fly, not walk around with people on their backs. Still, sometimes it was necessary - usually just a few steps before taking off, though Odette sometimes just took off right from where she stood depending on the wind.

"Right," Aulus nodded, a frown of concentration creasing his scarred face, "no problem." Taking firm hand-holds on Odette's feathers, but trying not to pull, he squeezed the bird's sides as instructed. It would be great once he got the hang of it, he was sure but right now he felt ignorant, incompetent, awkward and rather out of place, like a Psyduck trying to learn to tango or something. Still, least it was Claire teaching him rather than somebody who might mock him... Well, she might mock him actually, but probably in fun and he could just about accept that from her especially given she was doing him a favour.
As the human climbed onto her back Red shivered, the odd sensation of weight on her making her feathers puff up a bit. As the woman settled and grasped onto her feathers she relaxed somewhat, but the slightly awkward shifting of her feet revealed that she hadn't quite found the comfortable balance Odette achieved with ease. It wasn't quite as easy as it looked, this human-carrying thing, but she was determined to get used to it and make a good job of it.

The golden bird ruffled her feathers a bit, taking note of Red's obvious uncertainty. Even if her competition had never been ridden before, Odette couldn't help but take pride and pleasure in the fact she was obviously so much better than this other bird, even if that was only due to her experience. Still, in her mind she was so much better, and that's all that mattered. With a soft coo of acknowledgment she started forward easily in her awkward bird-gait, showing Red just how it was done. Watch a pro at work.
Claire rolled her eyes at the narcissistic Pidgeot, waiting a few extra moments for Aulus' bird to feel more comfortable before she squeezed at her sides too. She had a feeling this would be a lot harder if Odette weren't there to demonstrate or help.

As Odette started forward Aulus relaxed a little, her confidence and amiability reassuring him somewhat. "So how do I ask her to take off?" he quizzed, not turning to look at Claire in favor of focusing on what he was doing.
When Odette started walking Red did too, but when she was squeezed she paused and turned her head to regard Claire with a confused, mildly affronted expression. As she had been looking at Odette rather than listening to the human conversation she had no idea at all that this was supposed to be the 'walk' command. After a moment however she gave a mental shrug and started walking again, just behind and to the left of Odette. Whatever the silly human on her back was up to she could put up with so long as the lady was present.
