While taking a chance to swallow, Silent took the chance to glance around at their surroundings in the growing light. All that could be seen was a wall of trees on each side, roots overlapping, while bits of land could only be see through the rare gap in the reeds. "So," she continued, through yet another mouthful, "where do we go from here?"

Lightfall finished off her meal and plunked her haunches down on a nearby root. "Well, I was thinking that perhaps we could try to find the rest of your family, if you like."

Silent snorted. "That will be impossible...I think. Don't ask why, I just know it is," she said softly.
It had been an odd feeling ever since she had woken up for the first time. She had been alone, no sign of any other foals around, so she had just started walking. The idea of parents was so completely foreign to her it wasn't even much to think about.
"But what about your herd?" she questioned. "Maybe we could go there instead."

Pricking her ears up a bit, Lightfall considered the notion. "I don't really have a herd, but I do live near some others. We can certainly head in that direction. It would be good to get around others, as well."

Silent nodded in agreement, nipped at one last berry, then left the berry bush. "All right then. I'll follow you, since you're the only one who knows where to go."
By now it was high noon and the sun was beating down onto the swamp, the air becoming thick with moisture. It would be better to go further inland now, where the air was still cool, shaded by the many forests that populated Matope.

"Well there you are..." Another doe joined them, with a turtle trundling slowly behind her, a snake coiled atop the turtle. "Steady's been really confused. Why did you leave him behind?" Tomo lowered her head toward the turtle, and the snake slid off Slow and Steady and slithered up onto Tomorrow instead.
Lightfall chuckled, rising as Steady made his way over to her side. "Silent, this is my friend, What Tomorrow Brings. Tomo, meet Silent Burning. She hasn't seen anyone else, really, so I was hoping to help her find other kimeti to join up with."
Tomo brightened, head lifting. "You're in luck! There's a huge gathering of kimeti and kiokote, they're going to be doing some big games. We should take Silent there!"

"That sounds like so much fun!" Silent agreed energetically. It would be the first time she would see so many kimeti, and kiokote, whatever they were, together. "What kind of games the will they have? What are kiokote? Are they anything like kimeti? How far away is the gathering?" she asked eagerly, barely pausing for breath.
It seemed like, finally, something exciting was going to happen.

Tomo nodded as Lunch coiled around her horns. "It's not far away, and kiokote are a lot like kimeti. I think there will be racing games and jumping games, and maybe we can get some new stories!"
"Well then," urged Light, "let's get moving. It sounds like you might have a lot of fun there." As Tomorrow trotted along ahead of them, Lightfall kept closer to Silent, making certain the foal kept up.

Silent easily kept pace with the blue doe, enjoying the slight breeze as a result of their movement. It felt good to be able to stretch her legs, and this time with a purpose, as opposed to just traveling because there was nothing else to do.
As her body fell into the rhythm, her mind began to race with all the possibilities. It would be interesting to see the kiokote. The sights were sure to be spectacular as well.
The young filly loved to race as well. She had often sped across the swamp whenever the undergrowth permit, which unfortunately hadn't been very often, so she hoped there would be more of a chance to the festivities they were headed to.

They continued in silence for a while, but finally Tomorrow pushed her way through the brush ahead, leading the others into a huge field that held kimeti, kiokote and new, strange creatures alike. "Look at them all," she breathed, wonderingly, while Lightfall hung back a bit, nervous in the face of crowds.
