"Cream of mushroom? No, they haven't yet. I'll keep an eye out. I haven't been eating much, to be honest, and I think they're on to me." He laughed, knowing his nurses were probably not his biggest fan, despite how they smiled at him and were very good at their job. They made him feel comfortable, but he could see it on their faces and hear it in their tone when he pushed them too far.

They had patience for him, but not when he continually tried to get out of bed. Or that they had to put his IV back in after finding him with it pulled from his arm.

They would be even less thrilled to know he would be slipping out as Camelot, because he just could not stay in bed while his friends, people he loved and cared about, were in trouble. Even if they weren't.

"How have you been, anyway? I mean, since... ah... awakening?" He felt a little disconnected, and he wanted to get back to feeling like things were normal. Ironically, now, this was his normal. Knight activity, civilian helping, and taking care of those around him.

"And I actually like mushrooms. I don't even know what they do to this stuff." Ew. Seriously.

Tony's next question seemed to require some thought. "I've been... Well, not much really changed. Beside the whole go beat up giant monsters part." The last was kept in hushed tones. "I'll probably start seeing more... changes when class starts again."

Tony nodded his head.

"Try to find a balance," he said softly, now that they were speaking once again about their secret lives as defenders of good, "I know many senshi who can't. I know it's difficult, moreso now than I ever did before, considering. But you are still a young girl, regardless of your calling. You have battles to fight, and to win. But..."

He almost lost himself, thinking about all they had to do, all he wanted to do with the Knights, and how much training they all needed, how much help they needed to have or to supply. He knew how many bad things lurked in the shadows, and hid in the light as their friends, possibly their family.

They could never really know.

And then one of them might vanish one day, as Tony very nearly had himself. And then what? He nodded his head. "But we are striving to preserve life, our normal lives included. if you ever feel overwhelmed, I'm here for you." It was just easier for him to focus on the others, his friends and extended family. His children and siblings, in their individual ways.

"Keeping it from my roommate is gonna be the biggest problem, I think. No one else really look at me long enough to notice much." As long as she kept up with her homework and her chores, she didn't think the nuns at the seminary would suspect much. Even if she got hurt... Well, she got hurt all the damn time. It would be easy to pass almost anything as a skateboard accident, get scolded on matters of safety, and that would be that.

Shoes were kicked off, and she brought her knees up on the bed to lay her chin against them, still facing Tony. "She's spending most of the summer with her brother so for now it's not too bad. When classes start again, through..." Erika might notice. She hoped she wouldn't tattle on her, really, but... Erika was Erika.

Tony frowned at that thought, not liking that she was lonely. He knew what it was like, at least, in his own way. His life, though strange and never truly boring even when he had settled into the role of a librarian, had been fairly solitary by his own design or not.

"Well, it's always a struggle, balancing things, but you'll find a way. I think it's harder in theory, which is at one a relief and almost sad, if you think about it too long. But once push comes to shove and you find yourself needing to keep your identity secret... you figure it out quickly."

He was not one to talk, of course. More people than he would like to admit knew who he was, on both sides of the coin. Camelot and Tony, though he was certain only senshi and other knights were in on the secret. So at least he was comfortable knowing his secret was safe enough.

Probably.

"Don't worry. Whatever happens, you'll have the Knights of Destiny to support you now. Whatever help you need, from homework to something more... dangerous." If she ever had an enemy she couldn't handle, or if she got in over her head, he meant.

Ironically, the words did not seem to bother her in the way they bothered Tony - in fact, they were spoken in the manner of someone who knew nothing else.

Whatever hand fate had dealt Darryl, it hadn't been the best. That much was obvious, and she made no effort to hide it - beyond that, however, she would remain tight-lipped.

"I might just take you up on that homework part, you know." Her expression shifted into an amused grin. He might very well regret it.

A librarian had to be good with literature, right ? English was the bane of her existence.

She would be sorely disappointed when she found out that Tony was not much of a reader. He liked books. Being around books, sorting books, giving books to people. But reading was just not something he did very often. Particularly now, though even before he had suddenly found himself with two lives he had never really felt he had time for it.

But he hoped he knew enough about books in general, if not their full content, to be of some help if she ever asked for it. At the very least, he could help her pick out what books to read.

And give her an extended due date on them at the library?

Helpful!

He smiled and nodded his head, settling back in the bed. He felt drained, but it had nothing to do with his injury. Or very little to do with it, anyway. He rubbed his chest thoughtfully, not noticing the unconscious behavior, then shook his head as if awaking from a daze. He thought much more time had slipped by then it had, and he was a little disoriented.

"I suppose I've kept you long enough, you probably have more things to do than keep an old man company." He smiled teasingly.

Darryl wasn't even much of a reader, herself, so she most likely wouldn't blame him. She greatly preferred technology to books, and would be the sort to own a e-reader if she could have afforded it.

The unconscious movement made her frown with worry, but she said nothing on it. Instead, she got up again. "I should let you rest... Call me on the headset when they let you out, alright ?" There was a softness in her voice was that definitively rare, and she moved, carefully brushing some hair away from his face.

...

Why had she done that ? Awkward. Awkward as hell.

"Don't die, Tony." Her voice was surprising weak. "Don't..."

And then she was gone.
