Piper swung around at Urban's laugh, ears pinned against her head and a snarl emmanating up her throat. She showed a flash of fangs at Novik before the big wolf slowed and her dark eyes flitted to Swell, who was hurrying after her. Piper couldn't keep the ice out of her tone. "Can't keep your little boytoy in line, Swell?" Her back bristled, chest tight, heart racing.
Wait. Her heart was racing? It wasn't because she was scared! Hell no, the great Piper didn't fear anything... Her eyes narrowed to slits at Novik, Gerda's son. Her half-brother... Hard to believe it, the only thing they had in common was coloration. Her lips twisted. "Don't want to have heatstroke."

Novi wasn't surprised at Piper's reaction--he'd secretly hoped for this. Fear. Anger, but underlying fear. She was afraid of him... Vik smirked in the back of his head and slowly, it reached across the boundary and Novi felt his lips turn up as well as he barreled towards her. The sun scorched his dark pelt and it was only his name, shrieked, that made him hesitate.
His paws slowed. Two-toned eyes warily watched his half-sister, but his ears flicked back to Swell as she came after him. His hackles prickled and the low, threatening growl that escaped his mouth surprised him. Man, he was fierce... Like a freakin' lion!
"She deserves to be heir," he said softly, watching Piper carefully.

Swell growled low in her throat at her mothers words, her eyes widened a bit though the growl dying off as she realized...Piper was afraid. Piper, her mother...was afraid of Novi? She could see it in her eyes and it stunned her for a moment. She had thought Piper was perfect, fearless, always right, but now she felt as if the veil of childhood adoration was being whisked away. How could her mother be afraid of Novi?
She stepped forward and softly slid against Novi for a moment her body picking up his heightening temperature before she moved a bit not wanting to add to his heat.
"Novik is my mate mama, as you well know...and I don't puppeteer like you." She huffed feeling a little less gracious and respectful after the things she'd heard.
She didn't want to fight though, not here, not like this, if she had been alone she might have pressed Piper, might have echoed Novi's sentiment. She did deserve to be heir, she loved this pack and she had tried so hard to please her mother. Except she couldn't think of any of that, she was too worried about the ferocity...and heat coming off Novik in waves.

Urban glanced between Novik and his mother, lifting one brow haughtily as he took the giant of a wolf in. Mm... "I can see why you like him," he murmured, winking at Novik while sashaying his hips a little, backing away from the trio of wolves. "But I think I'm getting hungry. Yeah, that's my stomach growling. Din-din. Ta," he grinned, prancing away before Piper could whip him back. Oh, he loved it when she was preoccupied. He seriously needed to find a life away from Gomorrah, to where she couldn't call him back like an oversized guard dog. With a huff, he left, headed for the boundary line. He needed a little stress relief.

Piper stiffened, her gaze flicking between Novik and her daughter. Her mate? "So it's official then? Your betrayal stings, Swell," she growled, arching her neck to be 'higher' than her daughter, her way of scrambling for protecting herself, her way of asserting herself. "I suppose it's fitting... Though, your pups will be...interesting." She flashed a cold smile, aimed more at Novik than Swell this time.
But she took a step back. Tail still flagging the air, she gave Swell a long, hard look. "You'll only take the pack over my dead body," she snapped, then feigned left, snapping at Novik's scruff before taking off, her stride haughty but stiffening.
No. No. No. That beast wouldn't take the throne. She wouldn't let a ******** of Gerda's lead Gomorrah, rightful heir or not. Her lips wrinkled back and she aimed for the sea.

Novi kept his posture stiff, snarling at her words. If it wasn't for Swell against him, he would've snapped back at her. How easily he could've twisted her to the ground, heard her cries.
He flinched, ears flat at the thought... No. He was no killer... Ashamed of his thoughts, his face burning from Vik's laughter, he slowly eased to the ground. "I...I'm sorry, Swell. I shouldn't have..reacted like that." His breath came in slow pants, the heat swarming his coat like bees. "I'm sorry..."
Vik sneered in his head. "Let me out. I'll end this once and for all..."
But Novi held strong.

Swell hated the way Urban looked over her mate, like a piece of meat, which was probably how he saw all his conquests. She frowned and watched her mother with narrowed eyes. Her body tensed at the false snap and then Piper's words.
When it was just the two of them alone again she turned and tenderly licked his muzzle. "Don't be sorry, she deserved it...she's...just being a stubborn old fool..." It almost hurt to hear her own voice saying that about her mother. She had tried, she had begged Piper to accept her and Novik...but it seemed Piper refused.
"Come on...let's get you out of this heat..." She nuzzled him for a moment and turned to lead them back towards their den, the shade of the mountain would do him good. In the back of her mind Swell felt a pleasant surge, her Novi, he had been so brave.
