The vixen was so quiet and meek Charis felt a pain in his chest reminding him of Azreal. Still before he could try and comfort her or escape she was back to teasing and his uncomfortableness of the situation returned. He cleared his throat when she mentioned his tribe. At least that he could talk about with relative calm and ease. “A warrior me? No, not in the least. My job for the tribe is very simple. I am a distraction to the humans. They are fascinated by my size and my wings. While they pay attention to me, the gathers of the tribe may steal food or whatever else the tribe needs. If one of them gets into trouble I can always fly in and kidnap the fox and fly off a short distance before I land and we can head back to the tribe’s resting area. If anything my job is more that of a coward. I’m not quick enough to steal things and escape without my bulk be noticed and I’m only ever flying in to carry a fellow fox away not fight to save them.” He scooted a bit back away from the vixen when she moved closer not wanting to end up to close to her. “Ah I don’t doubt that you’re a good girl, but well. I ah.. It’s just that… I… ” Charis waved a paw away from himself clearly uncomfortable at being teased in such a manner. “I am unaccustomed to such constant praise and other such comments.”

Mary couldn't hide the surprise that arrived on her face at finding out he actually dealt with humans. "Really? What are they like?" She questioned him in her mind she pictured a hairless bear that lives in tall metal dens.
She stepped back from Charis as she realized he was feeling uncomfortable. "Sorry, I didn't mean to overstep my boundarises." She said watching him for a moment before looking back at the water. Mary knew she had just embarrsed the poor fox and felt a little guilty from it.
"So...why are you out this far?" She said meekly hoping to get passed the embarasment.

“Mm Humans? Well they are tall things and thin. They walk on two legs and some are mean and cruel while others are kinder. You can tell by the tone of their voices usually. Well no fox understands the human’s grunts and squeals we can at least get a sense of hostile intent by the usual markers.” Charis took a relieved breath when the vixen backed away. “No. You overstepped no boundaries. It is only something that I am not used to. Nothing more.” Charis padded over and took a drink. Partially to refresh his throat and to think on how to answer the next question the vixen asked. When he finished he looked back to the vixen and tried to keep his voice steady. “Well you see. I had a very special fox to me. My mate. I thought we would be together forever. We parted ways for a time and I left and saw more of the world. When I met her again I found our hearts had grown apart. I still care deeply for her, but I know she is no longer for me. I couldn’t just head back to my tribe after that. I needed some time away.” Charis looked away over the ocean of grass wondering if Azreal was alright wherever she was.

Mary watched the phim speak trying to picture what he said. It basically ended up being a two legged hairless fox that made weird noises. She had to stuffle a giggle that started to come from her over active imagination. Although it did make her wonder more about this strange species. The city started to seem more and more interesting.
As she watched Charis walk away to the water she couldn't help to admire him. He seemed so innocent and sweet she found it a nice change from the more hardcore personalities she kept running into.
As he told her his story a empathic look came over her face as she listened. She never had a fox close to her and didn't know what it was like to kose someone like. "I'm so sorry that happened to you. I can't try to imagine what it feels like to lose someone like that." Her voice was gentle and soft as she spoke actually caring for his lost. Mary really was a kind person.
(Maybe later they could try to pursue a relationship?)

(eh really? You know besides Moon you are the only person who has shown one iota of interest, enough to ask about mates, in Charis since his split. Sadly as sweet as Mary is I don’t think it would work out. She would remind him far too much of Azreal.) Charis smiled at the vixen. “It is what it is nothing more. I know Azreal will find her happiness out in the world somewhere. She is far too kind a fox not too end up in a good place.” He could only shrug and hope. He was surprised at how much this vixen seemed to take an interest in his own past. “What about yourself? You go about collecting tales and myths. Have you never met a fox who was worth the time spent no matter how it ended? Azreal was one such fox. I love her still, yet for all the pain it was worth it to me to know her.” Radu yawned and rolled over. He was still sleepy but the heat from this place was the cause not actual weariness. Wriggling around a bit he made sure to choke any bugs on him of all oxygen by coating himself in dirt. Then he flopped back over and dragged himself to his feet with a grunt. He was thirsty. Today he would find a source of water and drink it all!

(Really, that's surprising. He seems like the type of fox everyone would want to have a fox with. Oh okay, I just thought they were getting along pretty well and thought it might lead somewhere.)
"I see. You really did care for her if even now you just want her to be happy." Mary was a caught by surprise when he asked about her love life. A small embarassed smile came on her face as she thought how to explain herself.
"Every fox I meet I always spend some time with them. I like to meet new personalities...and break the loneliness. However a romance I never really found. I meet a couple suitors, but I just didn't take a interest in them." She gave a small shrug feeling a little shallow. "I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. But I do dream of a family."

(Yes they do get along and they would be very nice to one another, but you have to realize that Mary has a lot of gray and black. Azreal was also those same general colors and also very sweet. It would actually be painful for Charis to pursue a lover’s relationship with Mary. She is far too much like Azreal to be more than just friends.)
“Yes I did, and still do care for her.” Charis smiled as he thought about all the times they shared and all the things he learned just because Azreal had opened up his world. He nodded in understanding about her not finding a suitor who interested her enough to pursue a relationship. “I understand. I have met a few foxes since parting ways with my gray angel. None of them would I consider a mate. Still having many friends is a good thing. Dreaming of a family I very nice and perhaps one day you shall find it.”
Radu pushed off the ground suppressing yet another yawn. His dark fur cursedly kept in the heat and so Radu was torn between wanting to drink and wanting to bathe. He flew for a while his thirst driving him to distraction before he noticed a glint off in the distance. Changing the course of his flight he headed toward the source of water. About time.

(I understand. I just wanted to throw the idea out their.)
Mary still had that embarassed on her face as she let out a small sigh. It felt weird knowing that as old as she was she still didn't know what it felt like to be in a relationship. Like Charis said however, it is what it is. "Yes, I suppose they are." Even friends was a very loose term for her, if they weren't a scout or wonder a large range she often never meet them again.
"I suppose it could happen. Whatever is in the future I look forward to it."

(Thank you for thinking of Charis as mate material *haggles ebil* It’s nice to know he’s not been forgotten.)
Gently Charis raised a paw and tapped the vixen’s head in a friendly manner. “That’s the spirit. Oh I’m sorry. Here I have been talking you into the dust and I never even introduced myself. I am Charis and a member of the Phoenix city tribe.” Charis would have said more but in that moment a dark streak dove into the water creating a huge splash. Charis instinctively covered the vixen with his wings worried about danger.
Radu made sure to take in a mouthful of water while underwater and then popped back to the surface of the water and swallowed it. The water felt cold and refreshing. “Ah that feels good.” Looking over he realized that there were two foxes he hadn’t noticed in his haste to reach water. Who are they?

(Yea, I didn't even remember I owned Mary until Yush pointed her out.)
Mary was surprised when Charis gave her the gentle tap on the head. She wasn't expecting it at all. "Oh its quite alright. I often forget formalities. The names Mary..." she paused repeating her last name as she was startled by the splash. As her eyes watched the creature come up she was confused at what she saw.
The creature had a horn and bat wings, but it still looked similar to a fox. Tilting her head slightly she hit her ear against the wing she didn't know was wrapped around her. Finally she gave a reassuring smile to Charis, "I think that is unnesscary. Its another fox although..." their was something she felt odd about when she glanced at him.

Charis uncovered Mary still surprised by the sudden appearance of another fox. Looking at the male he was surprised to discover that it was a deava. “Are you alright?” He backed away from the shoreline to give the male room as the dark male exited the water. “I am Charis and this vixen is Mary. Might we know your name Mr. Deava?”
A phim. And one who doesn’t snap at me for being a deava. This could be fun. And look at that little vixen. Not much of an imposing figure together much less apart. A well they’ll kill my boredom for a while. “I’m Radu. It’s a pleasure to meet you both.” He gave a grin to encompass the male and female. For a moment he thought of his little goose girl as he noted the brown on the male phim. Ah how he would have enjoyed having her along to show off.

Mary watched as the large male exited the water highly impressed. She could easily see how the myths painted these foxes as monsters. He certainly looked strong enough that a few warriors would have to coordinate to challange him. "Its a honor to meet you Radu!" Mary said as her thirst of knowledge started to rear again but she fought the urge.
She looked at Charis for a second noting his facial expression and Radu. From what she could tell no immortal bloodfued. "I never meet a Deava before, then again I never meet a phim to just an hour ago. I suppose this is my rewards." She joked making a slight motion at the gods.

“Well to be fair. I have never met many deava’s before. Those I met were either nice enough or near cruel.” Charis shrugged he watched the deava with mild interest. “It is nice to meet you Radu. Is the water pleasant to swim in?”
Snorting Radu looked at the little vixen in disbelief. “Well now. Miss Mary.” Radu sneered a bit. “Since you don’t know me you should just save the ‘honor’ and all that crap for someone who would be impressed by it. Same goes for you turkey boy. As for your question, yes the water is very cool and refreshing. Why not go for a swim yourself?”

"Guess we'll find which one he is." She said under her breath as she suddenly heard his rude remark. Unfazed she give a soft click of her tounge and a shrug. "I suppose your right. Just from my point of view I'm. Meeting a deava for the first time. Kind of like meeting your hero for the first time."
Mary knew most foxes had differfent personalities but few made her feel so uneasy with herself. No, she finally decided that she was simply being biased of him from the stories and legends she heard of his species. Although he looked like he could become very dangerous.

Charis could only nod. So far the other male had insulted him but there had been no aggressive actions as of yet. “Actually I was considering taking a swim a bit later.” He kept his face rather neutral in this case not wanting to offend the fox he knew nothing about.
Radu laughed aloud. Oh how funny this was! “Meeting a deava is like meeting your hero? What backwoods tree did you fall out of little vixen?” He held up a paw and allows his flames to come out and coat his paw. “Most foxes with sense would give a deava a bit of room whether the deava meant them harm or not. To compare meeting one, and me no less, to a figure that’s so typically ‘good’ is just laughable.”
