I'll toss in some quick notes regarding world stuffs for you:
- You seemed to note she had wings at birth? Mononoke aren't born, I mean...fetuses can't do magic. xD It would be much more appropriate if she started dabbling with that and getting those traits as a toddler or so, when she began to develop more cognitive skills and such.
- With the children shunning her because of her wings, it wouldn't really make sense in this world. :3 Kids would be more so impressed with a mononoke witch, but if you still want to lean with that, you could have her growing up in a more non-magic area or something, or change that they were shunning her for other things.
- With the royalty thing, duchess would be more appropriate, since it's just sub-royal or something and not too influential, but true royalty are reserved for metaplot character giveaways. xD Sowwies~!
- FYI for the ages (Since oyu mentioned you didn't know them) Entering the makai royal academy comes at age 17, and graduation can taken place anytime within 1-3 years. Usually just one year, but some students may either be prodigies, and some may choose to stay longer for extra learning.
Also @ what ewa said, I actually used to fall asleep in the forest behind my house and often explored it on my own from age 5+ xD I was never afraid, though I am NOW that I know what LURKS in there. D: I guess it's circumstantial!
