Kiokote Name: One Jump Ahead Gender of Kiokote: Male Personality Keywords: Complusive, Obsessive, Stubborn Character Concept: One Jump Ahead was always the first to raise his hoof and volunteer to do absolutely stupid things but this was just crazy. Why had he come to this swamp? He was not made for this place. The ground was so soft under his weight and his hooves struggled to free themselves out of its depths only to get stuck in it again. It seemed like an ironic reflection of his life, struggling constantly just to get by because of a difference from the normal.
His struggles weren't entirely in vain though, finally freeing his hooves out of the swamp and pulling himself up onto a solid grass mound. There we circled four times around the mound before settling down, his bright green eyes studying the layout of the swamp. Sitting, staring into the endless swamp, the buck was full of hope that the plains had never had for him. He couldn't go back to that, and that left him with only one place to go: forward into the swamp. He didn't know if he would find his father or not, but he wasn't going to find him back in the plains. Preference List: Green

Kiokote Name: Moon on the Water Gender of Kiokote: Male Personality Keywords: Rash, Confident, Imaginative Character Concept: Moon settled down to rest after the long day's trek. He'd finally reached the swamp, nearly the end to his journey. Moon hadn't been pushed into it by the Ache, like so many others. Instead, it was a desire to find his father that lead him here. Or if he failed that to at least find his father's kind. He has always loved his family and home, but since the first time Moon knew he was different, part not-Kiokote, he has wanted to meet his other half. It was a long road, made longer by the fact he went alone. None of his siblings had gone with him. Moon had asked, begged even, but they had all been torn between leaving the safety of what they knew for the unknown to find their heritage. Moon is sure they'd come eventually but he was too impatient to wait for them.
Moon strains his eyes in the near dark of a full moon, attempting to get a look around. It was nearly sun down when he first came into the swamp, a rather foolish choice considering he knows nothing of the predators in this area. But still, he wanted to be in the swamp to get at least this bit of the journey completed. Not even the oppressive, damp heat could sour his elation at being halfway done. Moon feels the heat will be his biggest problem. It's not the dry heat he's used to. Instead it is wet, sticky, oppressive. Even making breathing a chore. The swamp, being what it is, is full of water and that lends Moon some hope. Water to drink. Water to wade in and wash the sticky heat away. Or so he hopes. But Moon's too far in to even consider turning back. Even if he found his father right this minute he'd stay. There is so much to learn that Moon can't see himself returning to the plains for a long time. If ever. Preference List: green

Kiokote Name: Prairie Ring ("Circle") Gender of Kiokote: Male Personality Keywords: Passionate, tenacious, positive. Character Concept: Circle has never been unsure about whether the markings that glowed on his siblings' bodies as well as his own were a blessing or a curse. He was born with impaired vision, milky and blurred, which, to put it simply, made it difficult for him to be a Kiokote. Even the brightly-lit plains where he was born were treacherous to one unable to see the terrain clearly, and hunting was nearly impossible when he could not follow his prey. But he knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the Motherfather had given his sisters and brothers a gift that made up for the sight that Circle had been deprived of; for as night fell, it was those markings, shining brightly through the gloom, that had always guided him home, without fail.
So it is with eagerness, then, that he accompanies his siblings as they make their journey to the swamp. The ground grows softer underneath their hooves as they press on, the cries of wildlife become strange and unfamiliar. Circle is nervous, and his legs, not as strong as those of his fellows, are weary, but as difficult as the trip is for him, he would not have stayed behind for the world. Though he knows that he is a Kiokote, he has never truly felt at home among his kind. There were those who regarded his family with disdain, even fear, and he had long tired of arguing with them. He could not dispute the fact that the five of them were different-- that though they spoke, moved, and laughed like Kiokote, there was a part of themselves that was, undeniably, not Kiokote. Though it was a part that had brought them some sorrow over the course of their young lives, it was a difference he loved, one he treasured dearly. It made them special.
That is what Circle tells himself as he plods forward. Night is falling again, and he must be careful not to trip as the terrain becomes more uneven, pocked with roots and mud, but his resolve is strong; it burns quietly within, with no less intensity than the streaks of light on his own body. If there is a part of them that is not Kiokote, well, then they will find that part, as one digs underground to find the sweet root of a plant. Perhaps, when they find it, they will have found a place where they can truly belong.
The swamp they find themselves in is thrumming with life, though the sun's light has long since faded. It is difficult for him to move about, now, and as Circle looks up, he is momentarily gripped by fear; he has lost sight of his siblings, distracted by the effort it has taken to remain upright in the unfamiliar marshland. He opens his mouth, about to call out to them, before catching a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye. It's so dark, and with his eyesight being what it is, how can he possibly have seen anything? Yet there it is again, a distant mote of light, moving with slow certainty in the darkness. It is far too small to belong to one of his siblings, yet the way it glows is unmistakably familiar. As Circle squints, he can make out another, and another... and when a pair of them drifts close enough, he sees them for what they truly are: eyes.
Circle smiles. Preference List: Red, white, green

Kiokote Name: Sun-beats-down Gender of Kiokote: Female Personality Keywords: Introspective, Rational, Curious Character Concept: She just wanted to be normal. She was just another Kiokote, right? She enjoyed the same things as everyone, and had needs and desires like everyone else, right? So why did the others look at her so differently, just because she glowed? That didn't make her any different inside. Whether it was from wonder or fear, the stares were all the same to her. So when she found out her father was in fact, different from them, and from a faraway swamp, she decided to seek him out. Maybe she could learn something more about him, and herself, and thus teach the rest of her kind that she and her siblings were no different than them after all. She knew it would be a long-shot to find him, as there were likely many of these 'not-kiokote', but she would be strong, and do her best. She knew not what to expect with a swamp, as she had never been there, but if her father could live there, and she was a part of him, then she could handle it as well. Preference List: Orange, white
Kiokote Name: Squall Gender of Kiokote: Male Personality Keywords: Resentful, Bold, Impetuous Character Concept: Growing up, other Kiokote tended to avoid him. While as a youngster it merely made him sad and somewhat confused, as he grew older it turned into resentment and sometimes even anger. Unfocused and at times uncontrolled, he would lash out at random targets in frustration at how others treated him and his siblings so differently, making himself even more of an outcast. When they finally confronted their mother and found out about their "not-kiokote" father, he finally had a focus for all of his frustrations. He rashly set off for the distant swamp, determined to find his father, not even knowing what he would do or say if he found him. There were no plans made, no precautions took. He would find something or someone on which to unleash his frustrations permanently, or die trying. Preference List: Cyan/Green, Red, White

After some deciding, here are the winners, as chosen by Raisin! Please post in the certing thread with your names! <3 The white male goes to: Ruriska Kiokote Name: Once Forgotten Gender of Kiokote: Male Personality Keywords: Steadfast, demanding, resolute Character Concept: Forgotten considers himself the self-appointed leader of the group of siblings and is always the loudest voice to be heard. When times are tough he feels it is his task to drive them forward with both physical force and words, even when it looks like they can not take another step. His dream is for them to find happiness together in the swamp and he believes this can only be done by finding out their true origins. Forgotten does not like to be disagreed with, but his heart is always in the right place, even if his methods are sometimes a little over the top. The white doe goes to: [A.V.] Kiokote Name: Lost Light unfortunately, the NAME is taken, so maybe name her: Scattered Gender of Kiokote: Female Personality Keywords: Fearful, Conflicted, Insecure Character Concept: The runt of the litter, Scattered never really understood the meaning of their abnormal glowing markings, and treated it as a sort of curse or punishment. She constantly clings to the oldest of the group, and needs consistent reassurance that they aren't some abomination the MotherFather created and abandoned. She loves her mother dearly, and always yearns for her return, but is fearful of her father, as not much is known of him, except for the fact that he is the main cause of their abnormal markings. The green buck goes to: phoenix kiss Kiokote Name: Stormbreaker Gender of Kiokote: Male Personality Keywords: Arbiter of disputes. Character Concept: They reached the swamp after a week's travel, a haggard bunch; he kept on point, simply to help rally his siblings, keep them pointed in the same direction. At first, a few had straggled behind, dragging their feet; some had argued, some had whined. If it took time to settle their disputes (whose turn it was to hunt, who had to keep watch), he didn't seem to mind. They had nothing but time. He never raised his voice, never blamed anyone -- instead he worked out their issues like untangling knots from hair. Only when everyone had been smoothed out did they resume their course.
When asked whether he was worried about what the swamp would offer, or whether they would find their father (how could they possibly find him? they had nothing to go on except the fact that he glowed), he shrugged. They didn't know. But it couldn't hurt to try.
Only once did his siblings test his patience, and they seemed to realize it immediately; his ears had twitched back, his shoulders had rolled forward. He hadn't needed to say anything; that would have been the worst part, had he admonished them verbally. They'd taken watch and left him to sleep with the realization that if he hadn't come with them, they might not have gotten this far. They knew about his temper -- it was very slow to surface, but once unleashed it poured out in a torrent. He couldn't help it.
His were the first feet to sink into the swamp-mire; his skin crawled at the humidity. He felt as though he'd been dumped in water. Compared to the dryness of the plains, he could barely stand it. Standing with his ears pricked forward, shaking already sweat-damp hair out of his face, he gathered up his siblings with a look to quell their doubts and fears (and his own), and started in. One sibling opened their mouth -- and Stormbreaker shook his head, silencing him, quelling fears. "We'll find him. Don't worry. So long as we stick together. How many other glowing kiokote are there?"
And he was, of course, the first to set foot in the swamp. As if drawn by his presence, his siblings followed, like rain after a storm. The red buck goes to: Xerianthe Kiokote Name: Rock Squirrel Gender of Kiokote: Male Personality Keywords: hyperactive, prankster, fun Character Concept: All of my siblings are just so dowdy – over-protective or angry or scared! It’s my job to brighten their days. So what if my lovely sister didn’t like the spider on her head? Everyone else laughed! Or that time I made paint out of berries and dumped it on my brothers. I thought that was pretty hilarious (and after a very long run and hide and seek game, they admitted it was a bit funny too). Other kiokote are kinda mean to my family, so I try and balance that out, ya know?
But now we’re going to go find this kimethingy who’s supposed to be our dad. I don’t care too much about this guy, I mean, he kinda ditched us and mom if you catch my drift. But everyone else wants to go to the swamp and it should be fun, all these new things to try and new people to meet. Whether we find this guy or not, we’re definitely going to have fun! (Well, I’ll have fun, and I’ll make sure everyone else does too. They’re going to die of seriousness one day, honestly!)
We’re almost to this swamp place (which, how does our fearless leader know that? Big brother needs to share his secrets), and we’re all super tired and everyone else is grumpy. I tried to tell a joke and nearly got my head bitten clean off! If they’d listened to me and slowed the pace a bit and seen the sights (so what if there’s nothing to see but grass?) we all wouldn’t be this tired and cranky. They don’t even seem that excited, but they have enough energy to snap at me for ‘prancing around like an idiot, you’re such a moron Bounce!’.
(Don’t tell anyone, but I love my family. And this place does seem a bit scary (where is the sky?). But we’re always going to have each other so I guess that makes it okay.) The orange doe goes to: Abishai Sarihe Kiokote Name: Plainsfire // "Flare" Gender of Kiokote: Female Personality Keywords: Spirited, vibrant, imaginative Character Concept: Her skin twitched with indecision. She could see the start of the swamp in the far distance, a siren call that lured her forward, even as homesickness pulled her back. In frustration, Plainsfire kicked up her heels and wheeled about, darting for the next hilltop that would lead her home, to the hills and valleys and plains she knew so well. When she reached it, she came to a quick stop as a flash of her naming dream came to her once again. The thick grasses burned with a hypnotic, raging fire, and she could see herself racing through the fields, trying to outrun the fire; shaking her head, she cleared it of the dream, her attention once again drawn back to the swamp. Really, she assured herself, there would be places to run in the swamp. She knew it. She could see it, deep inside a part of her that had always been out of place on the plains. She would find those places that called to her and set them ablaze with her speed and her cunning... and she would find the missing pieces of her history. That last thought decided it, and with one last look behind her, she threw herself headlong into a run, racing the wind as she barreled toward the swamp, toward her father, toward her future.
