Riley was unaware of the princely gait with which Jove was prancing beside her, because when Riley walked with a companion, her focus was ahead, as always. It was a well known trick, instinctively passed down between generations of species with pack-like mentality, that the Alpha never displayed attention to those under her. They follow, or they are left behind. Her eyes rested on the demon dorms, curious as to the brick holding the door open. These doors were never locked, and yet someone thought it was necessary to prop the door open for some reason - curious.
She arrived at the door, and pulled it open, gently kicking the brick away as she did so. Well. She murmured gently. This is where I reside. Enter, if you truly wish to be mine.
She still had no idea Jove was anything more than a proud, yet adorable household pet.

For the most part, the mindflayers attempts to become Jove's mental pack leader was ineffective, he trotted along right at her side, occasionally darting ahead, occasionally falling back as he struggled around an obstacle. Maybe she was just embarrassed over the stomach growling, and that's why she wasn't looking at him.
When they arrived back at the dorms he followed her right up to the demon doors, and sat down to watch her. This was where she lived? In the demon dorms? He probably wouldn't be able to get back out if he went in, now that the brick was gone. This was probably where they parted ways. At least for now.
He wagged his tail, having safely seen her back to her place of residence. "Goodbye!" He said quietly, with a trace of a British accent in his tone, and then he turned and trotted away.

Riley's hand still rested on the doorknob as the pup sat, instead of heading inside. She supposed that was enough of an answer, and she couldn't really blame it. Why would someone so free as an animal of the forests choose to live indoors, even if they were to be taken care of and spoiled rotten? She would have made the same decision. She lifted her hand to wave as she heard it say goodbye, and prepared to put any thought of the encounter out of her-
OBJECTION.
Riley's eyes snapped wide open as she stared at the retreating puppy, slowly letting the truth of the situation sink in. Her claws dug into the metal of the doorknob she gripped, and a tearing sound wrenched through the air as she twisted the knob right off of it's hinge, pulling it away and leaving a scar of metal in it's wake.
It didn't. It wasn't. She hadn't. It couldn't be.
Riley was frozen, rooted at the spot, with a look of panic and horror evident in her eyes.
You. She finally squeaked out. You.
That was all she could manage, at the moment.

Several paces away, Jove turned at the sound of metal twisting, ears perked towards the mindflayer. The sound grated on his senses, like claws on a chalkboard. All of a sudden she didn't seem too well either... That wasn't good. Was she afraid to go into the dorm? Did she want him to walk all the way with her?
He trotted half way back before he noticed the mangled doorknob clasped in one hand. Oh... that couldn't be good.

YOU! She screeched as it came back, snapping out of the frozen state when she realized it was returning to check on her. She dropped the mangled doorknob and stormed over, dropping down to crouch in front of it and shaking a finger sternly.
WHAT- WHO- HOW-
Coherency was a virtue.
Finally, she dropped her pointing hand on the ground, and bent in to try and get a good look deep into his eyes.
Explain yourself! Her voice was shaky, and nowhere near the smooth and capable voice she was known for. Minipets don't speak! Therefore, logically, you are no minipet, and yet- yet I found you in the forest and you let me-
Her eyes narrowed to slits. None of that happened. Do you hear me? Whoever you are, you will forget this entire incident, and never breathe a word of it again. It was not so much a request, as it was a demand. We did not.. Her eyes flickered to the side, as if anyone could hear her voice anyway - We did not cuddle in the forest. You did not hear me speaking of anything. None of this. Happened.

Jove cowered, little glowing eyes widened at the sudden change. She had been quite friendly, but now she was trying to scare him? His head lowered, and his tail tucked between his legs like any terrified foxfire would. What had caused this complete turn around in behaviour?
Was this the attack that she had warned him about?
Oh.
That was all. His cowering look was replaced with an exasperated expression that said "Come on, you were fine ten minutes ago." Of course he let her pick him up, and talk to him and whatnot, he thought that's just what ghouls liked to do! Jove would have been extremely uncomfortable letting her cuddle him out in the open, so he understood that her affections were perhaps only meant for private moments. Besides, he wasn't exactly the most talkative type, as she might have noticed, so he didn't see what the problem was.

His silence was reassuring, but only just. She still had to come to terms with the fact that she had said some very inappropriate things to this foxfire, under the impression it did not actually understand. Now, based on it's cognitive ability to speak, she had to assume he had understood every word - and it scandalized her to no end.
Yes. Well. Good job then. You just keep that up, and we won't have a problem. She slowly stood, trying to remain as unruffled as possible - which wasn't working very well.
Just. Ahh. Her thoughts were interrupted by a predominant curiosity, as she realized the most logical conclusion to the idea of a talking pup was that it was actually a student - or worse.. a teacher. Just who are you, anyway? I think I deserve the right to know who, exactly, just managed to trick me into opening up like that. Did you do it on purpose, I wonder? Are you skulking the forests, searching for innocent prey to lure in with your charms only to make them tell you their greatest secrets, so that you might lord the information over them-
She paused, looking away thoughtfully. ...I need a cuter natural form.

Jove snorted at the ghoul's attempts to recompose herself. For some reason the threats seemed quite hollow and ineffective, and his little, unblinking eyes showed no trace of fear as he watched her rise. Despite his intelligence he was still a canine, and possessed no small amount of canine loyalty. The wisp's body language clearly read "It's okay, I know you don't want to hurt me."
As she continued, his sweet little puppy face began to look almost offended. Clearly he had better things to do with his time than wandering around tricking people into thinking he was nothing but a cute, tiny pup! He almost had half a mind to just walk away and give her no answer, but if she really didn't know who he was...
"Jove," He said by way of introduction, in the same quiet, accented tone as before. He owed her at least that much after she had bared her heart out in the forest. It was hard for them to be friends if she didn't know who he was. And that's what they were now, right?
His little head tilted, and then after a minute he offered her another word. "Hungry?" He was being quite talkative tonight it seemed. But if her stomach was growling earlier, surely she would be ravenous by now, and he should leave her to her dinner.

Despite having already heard it, it still came as a surprise to hear the pup suddenly speak to her, but she reigned in her reaction this time. The name rang a distinct bell, despite the fact she had only heard it once so far - and in recognizing the name, her suspicions were confirmed. Jove was, indeed, a student here.
Jove. She repeated thoughtfully. I have heard your name spoken once before, by a friend of mine. Junko mentioned you, once. It was a brief mention, and there was nothing in the mention that could have prepared Riley for this encounter.
Instinctual manners kicked in, despite the oddity of speaking to what looked like a feral animal. Well. Ah. Jove - it's nice to.. meet you? I suppose. I don't recall if I mentioned my name while we were.. ah. Her awkwardness was chopping her speech up to almost babble. Well. Regardless. My name is Riley. And ah.
She leaned in, and her eyes crescented in worry. Perhaps we could keep this entire situation to ourselves, if that's all right with you? A nicer approach to the request was sure to work, she hoped.

Jove's fluffy ears perked. She was a friend of Junko? That made her okay in his books, and his little tail gave a short, wiggling wag. Did Junko say anything good? Hopefully she didn't say he was 'cute' or 'adorable', although he knew ghouls were prone to that sort of thinking it would be nice if she spoke of him in more... masculine terms.
Unlike the rather anonymous little pup, Riley was very well known at school. Jove had been there when she was crowned prom king, and he had seen her before, on the field trip, and in some of his classes. In comparison he was more prone to slipping through the cracks in one's attention. And he liked it better that way. It meant fewer people to comment on his un-scary appearance, and general failure to conform to the frightening norm. She would probably change her assessment of his 'easy life' now that she was fully aware of who he was...
Jove sat down as the mindflayer leaned in, his expression one of exasperated boredom. Hadn't they already agreed he wouldn't speak of it? To reassure her all was well, he lifted one paw, and put it against his lips in the gesture he had learned from Ren that meant it was a secret. Just between them two.

That was entirely and obnoxiously unfair. Riley's eyes widened as big as saucers when the paw was pressed against his muzzle, and she spent every ounce of her stubborn willpower to keep from melting into an expression of affection. No, she was well aware of the situation now, and no measure of cuteness - none at all! - would break her will now.
Good. We have reached an accord. She nodded swiftly, standing back up straight after the brief thought of reaching out to shake his paw came and went as fast as it could.
I'm going to, ah, go now. It was.. interesting, meeting you Jove. Perhaps I will see you again. To herself, she realized the thought was immediately accompanied with 'Though I rather hope not.' She was embarrassed enough, and the idea of dealing with schoolmates wondering why Jove's presence now had the ability to make her awkward and less self-assured was almost as bad as the possibility that Jove himself would spread his knowledge about the school like a cancerous rumor.
Ah, life at Amityville just kept on getting more complicated.
She took a step back, before her hand rose in a weak, three fingered wave. Be safe. She whispered quietly, before heading back to her dorm.

Jove was, thankfully, oblivious to the effect his gesture had on his new friend. He was just glad he got his point across. There would be no more speaking about it from either of them, and if he was lucky, no more awkward hugs or whatnot. And definitely none out in public, seeing how she had quite the aversion to appearing weakened by his presence.
Unfortunately he took her farewell at face value, and wagged his tail as though replying "Yeah, see you." Even though she may have felt awkward, he did sort of enjoy her company, and wouldn't hesitate to enjoy it again if the opportunity arose. And she would just have to deal with it. At least until she realized his silence was assured regardless of what form he was in, and settled down.
The little pup sat and waited until she was out of sight, and then turned towards his own dorm. Mission accomplished, the ghoul was successfully escorted home. With a proudly puffed chest he trotted home to spend some time with his mushrooms.
