The moment her hooves touched solid ground, Ellette rushed off into the bushed to vomit up the stinking swamp water and mud she had ingested during her plight. "No," she called out weakly, "Not really, but I will be...eventually" Ellette shivered and kicked dirt over her mess.
"Perhaps we should consider making camp here for the night..." She called out over her shoulder as she cleaned herself off and rinsed her mouth with clean water from a little brook. "Its not really ideal, I know, I don't like the idea of that thing swimming around out there or what other nasty beasties could be lurking nearby but the lights fading fast and I definitely don't want to have another disaster so soon after the first...Especially not in the dark.."
She stumbled out from cover, unable to meet Aryon's eyes, she allowed her gaze to drift over his trembling form, the blood smeared across the tip of his horn, the limp wet strands of his crinkly blue mane, his powerful shoulders and legs, and felt hot tears welling up in her eyes. She turned away and shook her head, silly to get so emotional, to be so weak. She had come close to death many times before this, perhaps the only problem now was that she now had something to live for. She turned back and forced a watery smile, "You look terrible" she laughed and surged foreword impulsively to plant a kiss on his cheek.
"You were so brave today Ary, I'm proud of you, proud to be your friend." She was close enough to hear his heart beating, his deep breathing. She rested her cheek against his neck, feeling her own heart thudding in time to his, pulling back she met his eyes and felt her stomach flip. Her breath caught in her throat as a warm heat filled her belly and an electric surge fizzed down her spine. She leaned foreword, reducing the already small space between them to mere millimeters.
((Roll: 1.) Ellette kisses Aryon and then runs off in embarrassment 2.) Ellette kisses Aryon and sticks around to deal with the consequences 3.) Ellette catches herself at the last moment and snaps out of it 4.) Lioth interrupts them and they jump apart))
(Edit: Oooooooh, Elle, you naughty girl xD)

Aryon frowned in temporary indignation at being told he looked 'terrible'. What did she expect, he groused to himself, for him to look like a fresh cut daisy after half drowning in dirty swamp water? These thoughts utterly left his mind however, when she kissed him on the cheek. His brain screeched to a halt and for some reason he could feel himself beginning to blush...
Listening to her next words with half an ear, Aryon tried to identify the emotion that curled in his chest that had never been there before. It was hard to name it, rolling around as it was with relief at being alive and whole. In retrospect, he should have paid her more attention in those moments and he may have saved himself a great deal of grief. When she approached him again and leaned her face into his neck tenderly, he focused back in on the present and (as nice as this moment felt) was about to draw back and ask her if she was sure she wanted to stay here for the night when she drew back herself and kissed him.
It wasn't much as far as kisses go, really just a peck on the lips. Barely a touch at all really, but as he stared after her retreating form he didn't know what to do. The feeling in his chest intensified, being heavy and light at the same time in a confusing mix of emotion. He realized with a start that he liked Elle. His best friend was somehow becoming more to him, and Aryon didn't want to stop it.
Then, reality came crashing down. Never before had he considered his long lost mate to be a burden, but in that moment he burned with the wish to have never met her. Guilt flooded him and he banished the thoughts he was having about another mare. Things would never work out for him and Elle, he had someone else. Why did the thought trouble him so?
Moments later, he shook himself from his cloud of guilt and resolved to ignore the whole situation. He didn't know what to say, or do. Better to just pretend nothing happened and move in, he reasoned. It was the least awkward for all parties.
He glanced up, searching for his traveling companion.
"Elle," he called, spotting her, "are you sure you want to stay here for the night? Who knows what comes out at night....I don't want anymore surprises."
He trailed off, praying that she wouldn't bring up their previous encounter and couldn't help but wince a bit at his accidental double meaning.
((Roll: 1) A critter runs out of the brush, startled by the voices and attacks 2) same, but it simply flies off, startling both of them, possibly flying in someone's face 3) Aryon has a wound that neither of them noticed and lost rather a lot of blood, passes out (he'll be fine, just pissed that he keeps getting injured all the time)

Oh gods Ellette's entire body trembled in the aftermath of that kiss, the barest brush, hardly a peck, but as she pulled back and stared into Ary's eyes, she had to admit that it most definitely meant something...To the both of them. Not necessarily the same somethings. She saw confusion in his eyes, guilt, regret, and for a brief moment something unidentifiable that made her legs feel like jello.
She backed up a few steps, mortification settling over her like cool rain, she turned quickly and trotted off to the opposite side of the island. It was only ten feet or so, she feared to move too close to the water, but the space gave her breathing room and time to sort out ther panicked rush of thoughts. Aryon had a mate for heavens sake, she was supposed to be helping them find each other again and instead she was......
Well she didn't know what exactly she was doing, but it was wrong. Would Aryon want to go on by himself? She couldn't bear to lose his friendship, it was the only piece of him she could claim. His heart belonged to another.
"Elle" she heard him call to her. Icy panic washed through her and for a moment she was tempted to dart onto the rickety bridge and keep running until she could forget the misery of her situation. Instead, she schooled her features into a calm mask and turned to face him, expecting a reprimand, an accusation, anything but the innocent question he posed to her.
Ellette gulped, a stab of guilt twisting her insides at the unintentional reference to the incident a few moments before, but the look she cast him was grateful. "Umm..." she began, suddenly uncomfortable at the thought of spending the night with him here, in such a confined area.
She had to say something to try and explain her self. "Ary, I didn't mean-"
A frog croaked, the bushes near them trembled as a large bird erupted from its hiding spot and flew right at her face, startling her nearly to death and forcing her to duck to avoid being brained by the creature.
"Lets get out of here," she said quickly and led the way to the second section of bridge, hesitating only a moment before placing her front hoof on the damp plank.
"I hate swamps" she muttered rebelliously under her breath.
((Roll: 1.) The bridge had been damaged in a few areas, they need to hop across conveniently placed (slimy)stones to get to the end. 2.) They make off of the bridge with no problems and make camp in the swamp. 3.) We should totally have Fishy make Fergus appear and demand that they pay toll to get off the bridge xD ))

Ary winced as Ellette began to try to explain the incident (as he was calling it in his head), determined to pretend it never happened. He could not deny that he felt something something for his best friend but he would not allow himself to act on it. It would be a betrayal of...his mate.
He would not dwell on the fact he could not remember her name, nor bring her face to mind when he thought of her. That way lay black despair, icy panic, hysteria...
The fortuitous croaking of a rather large frog stalled the conversation he was determined not to have. He silently thanked the grotesque little thing, and enthusiastically agreed to get going, "Yes! I want to get out of here...let's take the long way next time..."
Muttering to himself about the whole crazy misadventure, he followed Ellette's lead and took a couple tentative steps onto the bridge that had caused them so much grief. Behind them, there was a sad pile of frayed rope and rotting planks floated pathetically in the water that was only now going back to normal from the frantic fight. The surface was becoming smooth once again, whereas before it had been distorted by froth from the struggle.
A little ways on, planks were missing but he could tell they were getting closer to the end of the swamp because there were conveniently placed stones that were just about right to step on to avoid the broken places in the bridge. They were a tad dangerous, being covered in ages of swamp slime, but at least they were there.
It was with great relief that Aryon spotted the end of the bridge some distance away. There were still a few more tiny islands to cross, but the end was in sight.

Ellette cursed under her breath as she saw the sad state of the length of bridge in front of them. The light was growing dim, the sun slowly creeping below the horizon and she figured they had maybe thirty minutes of daylight left. At least the end of this particular obstacle was in sight, although it would be risky. She eyes the murky water around them, her eyes searching for a patterns beneath the surface, a ripple, any sign of movement. She would never admit it but her heart was pounding so hard she was surprised it wasn't audible. Between her recent encounter with Ary and the tussle with the snake, her nerves were in tatters. Part of her wanted to turn around and sleep on the island but as she turned to glance back, she met Aryon's gaze and again felt a hot blush rise to her cheeks. The islet was definitely too small to house the two of them for the night.
So she stepped forward, feeling the planks shift and creak unnervingly with each halting movement. She reached the first boulder, slippery with slime mold and gods knew what else. She jumped before she had a chance to work herself into a proper panic, them jumped again, and again. For one heartstopping moment she nearly lost her balance on a particularly narrow and lumpy rock but she recovered and stepped onto the final stretch of moldering bridge. She took that at a gallop and felt tears of relief prickle in her eyes as she left that nightmare bridge behind and finally stood on solid ground. The path ahead of them wound its way up out of the swamp and into the clean, cool air beyond. "We're going to have to find a better route when we come back." she declared firmly, "Because I am not going back on that bridge" she refused to address the fact that, if they were successful, Aryon would stay with his mate. She would return on her own.
Leave or stay the night, tis up to you. We could go into mountains, caves, deserts, jungles, etc next if you want. Maybe roll your favorites?

Aryon nodded his fervent agreement. There was no chance in hell he would be coaxed into this damned swamp ever again. "You don't need to argue with me about it...I completely agree!" he stated forcefully.
A part of him was eager to see Gypsy again, but another part was dreading the time when he would have to part from his best friend. Why did she have to leave him exactly in the first place? There was no hurry, and he was fast forgetting the way back to Gypsy anyway. They'd be lucky if he remembered what to do after the swamp. The thought made his heart quicken with panic, what was he going to do if he kept forgetting things.
He started to shake a bit, but snapped to attention when something in the water splashed. Probably just a fish or something, but if nothing else he had learned to be cautious of strange noises in the night. You never know when you were going to be attacked by a giant snake after all.
"Well, let's get going then," he said, trotting nimbly over the last few sections of bridge and finally, FINALLY touching solid ground.
He resisted the urge to get to his knees and kiss the dirt, but only barely. "Well, I'm getting sort of...fuzzy on the correct path...but, I think that we need to go South some more. I remember it being really hot the last time I saw her, so that would make sense I think?" ((I think they just traveled south through the western swamp, that would make sense since there is no winter in jungle... [map] ))

Ellette nodded her acquiescence and led the way up the path towards the open air beyond the swamp. After a few more hours of weary traveling they finally stumbled free of the last line of gnarled, twisted trunks as the sun began to rise in the east and squinted in the sudden brightness. Elle blinked to hold back the tears as her eyes adjusted to the light, after a few moments she simply squeezed them closed and breathed a heady sigh of relief as a cool breeze tugged at her long brown curls and teased them into a halo around her sweaty face. She tilted her head upwards and savored their freedom. She smiled and laughed, startled, for she had expected to be greeted with more miserable heat and humidity, but gradually the feeling tapered off as she realized that the air smelled and tasted of.... salt?
Bracing herself, she cracked one eyelid and then both as her mouth dropped. What lay before them was not the jungle they had expected but a vast, trackless expanse of blue that left her speechless with awe. They were on a thin stretch of sandy beach. To the south she could make out a faint green line against the horizon that might be the jungle they had been aiming for.
The sight of it made her feel heavy and tired. More traveling, more hot disgusting weather. She began to yearn for a nice, frigid mountain winter. Lioth had flown off, likely to hunt, she had no doubt the hawk would find her again.
Feeling hopeless, Ellette walked out onto the sand and sank down, staring out across the water. She had never thought to see the ocean before. The pair passed a short while in silence before Elle turned to look at her companion, "I think we took a wrong turn." she murmured, her mouth twisting wryly. "I'm not sure where to go from here." she winced and wondered if he had caught the unintentional double meaning to her words but held his gaze regardless.

Aryon gazed out at the ocean and had a flash of his past. He remembered his mother taking him and his sister out to the ocean one clear sunny day. He didn't know why they'd made the trip, as it was actually quite far to be traveling with two foals. The traveling took them almost four days but once they'd gotten to the coast Aryon remembered being filled with wonder. How could there ever be so much water in the whole world? And, since it was all here, how could there be any, anywhere else? It had boggled his young mind, and now that he though of it, perhaps had been the origin of his wanderlust.
It heartened him to remember such an obscure day of his life. He did remember the ocean, and that it was four days travel from his mother's home. Hopefully she still called these jungles home, that is. It had been nearly four years since he had seen her or his sister. He didn't want to admit he had no idea where he had even met Gypsy at this point, beyond that it was a forest. Aryon tried not to think about it.
"No, I remember this. We're actually relatively close. That green on the horizon is the start of the jungle my mother lives in." he squinted at it, frowning, since it looked depressingly small and far away.
He glanced back at Ellette and met her eyes squarely. He wasn't sure what to do about her, he knew he had feelings for her but he'd been with another before getting stranded in that forest so long ago now. A small part of him wondered if they could make it work, he considered her his closest friend. They made a good team, that same small part wondered if it was meant to be that he couldn't remember his former lover's location. Still, he would hold out hope of his memory returning for a while longer yet. It wasn't that she was gone from it, but he couldn't recall anything about the path to her. He knew he'd met her in a forest, but half the continent was forest. That was about as helpful as saying he'd met her in a clearing. Which he had at that.
He broke the staring match they'd inadvertantly been engaged in while he had been lost in thought and turned towards the direction they needed to go, "Well, let's go then. Unless you want to rest here for a while, we've got at least four more days of travel...but this is the safest we've been since stepping foot in that blasted swamp."

Ellette turned her head and squinted her eyes at the fuzzy green line in the distance. A heavy exhaustion settled in her limbs and for a few minutes it was all she could do to rest her head against her legs and gaze out in silence at the Ocean. She breathed deeply, letting the unfamiliar sounds and scents overwhelm her senses and lull her into a deep sense of serenity unlike anything she had experienced before. She was always in such a hurry, rushing from one destination to another, never stopping to enjoy the journey. She was far from home, surrounded by things she had never thought to see with the two people she cared about most in this world. So she was bringing Aryon to find the mate he had misplaced, so they had traveled days through a stinking swamp only to emerge leagues from their destination. She was tired, and sore, and she felt disgusting but she had at least a few more days to spend with her friend before they parted ways, perhaps forever. She would be thankful for that.
Getting to her feet, Ellette cast a mischievous smile over her shoulder at Ary and galloped into the waves. Laughing as the water crashed over her body and washed away the sweat and caked grime from the swamp. She gasped at the chill of it at first but after a few moments her body adjusted. She waded out a bit further, enjoying the feel of the wet sand beneath her hooves and dunking her head under the water to rinse out her curls.
"I suppose I'll be covered in salt once this dries," she called as she emerged back onto the beach, "But it was worth it!" she beamed and trotted past Aryon towards the jungle in the distance. "We might as well get a good start while we have still have some sunlight. We can make camp in a few hours."Quote: We can skip ahead to night/another day/another anything if you want to. I'll leave it up to you and the roll. 1.)Aryon Sleepwalks away from Elle and can't find his way back 2.)Aryon gets sick, thinks he sees Gypsy, and wanders away from Elle in a delirium while she's asleep. 3.)Elle gets sick and Ary leaves her in a village to recover while he searches, he gets lost. 4.)They get stuck on either side of a huge canyon when a bridge collapses during their cross. 5.)They are attacked in the middle of the night and get separated during their escape.

Aryon laughed at his companion's antics, content simply to be in her presence for the moment. He said nothing in reply, but sent an amused smile her way before staring off into the distance, face angled towards the narrow strip of green on the horizon that was his childhood home.
Would he be able to remember properly where everything was? For the moment, he still had vivid scenes of his childhood and exploring the jungles with his sister. It was fuzzy landscape though, and he didn't know if that was time or his injury effecting his recollections. It was frustrating, and he was slowly admitting to himself that it was becoming a problem. That awful swamp for example. He couldn't tell you how they'd gotten there. Ary knew they'd traveled through a forest and a flat plains to get to the swamp but if tasked with guiding someone he'd be more than likely to lead them in circles for days.
With a sigh he put it out of his mind once more. "Okay, let's do that. We'll see how far we can get and make plans in the morning."
His head hurt, but Aryon assumed it was just from thinking too hard. Sometimes when he tried to remember, it brought back the old pain. He wasn't sure if it was real or just a memory, but it was always unpleasant.
----
Later that night, they make camp. It's not much, just a spot of softer grasses underneath a wide tree, but if it rained they'd be at least less wet than if they were totally exposed. Aryon lay down gratefully. He was weary to the bone, and didn't know why. They'd not been traveling very fast, joking and goofing around as they went, both just happy to be out of the swamp. His head was pounding, so he closed his eyes and tried to sleep.
((Halfway there. I was thinking Elle could wake up and Ary is just gone. I'll do a little SRP, he can meet up with Alanna who will help him get...somewhere? and then Alanna can meet up with Elle and tell her 'he went that-a-way'.))

With a relieved sigh, Ellette sank down onto her soft fragrant bed of grasses, wincing as her joints cracked and her muscles stretched unpleasantly. They had been traveling for weeks straight, even for someone used to exploration and adventure this trip was a feat of endurance. Elle and Ary had mutually decided that taking watched tonight would serve no purpose except to exhaust them even further. They hadn't seen a soul in ages, and they could both use the extra rest.
She was so proud of Aryon, he had come a long way from the blundering helpless stallion she had first met in the forest so long ago. He was a trained fighter now, and experienced. She had met better warriors in her day,but no one with as much heart and drive as this stallion, he was also the kind of friend you happened across once in a lifetime. He deserved happiness, if Gypsy was what would make him happy, she would guide him to the ends of the earth to find her. Ellette had spent the journey torn, between wanting to help her friend and acting upon the new feelings she was experiencing for him. She loved Aryon. It all seemed so clear now, her feelings weren't what mattered anymore.
Gulping she cast a surreptitious glance at her companion, but he was already fast asleep, besides, he couldn't read thoughts. Love, she turned the word over in her mind, savoring it, poking at it. She wasn't some fluttery filly to go all doe eyed over the first male to happen across her path, if the feeling growing in her chest wasn't love, then it was the closest thing she had ever experienced to it. She could never let him know, that much was clear to her. Ellette loved Ary, so what he wanted came first. She wouldn't confuse him or drive him away again. Nevertheless her self revelation was too much to keep locked away inside, just once she wanted to feel that coveted word against her lips. She crept closer to Aryon's sleeping form and scrutinized him warily. His chest slowly rose and fell in rhythm to his steady breathing and his eyes moved rapidly beneath his eyelids, he was dreaming.
"I love you, Aryon." Ellette breathed, her voice barely audible above the wind rustling through the branched overhead. "I didn't mean to, but I do. I hope you can forgive me."
She closed her eyes and pretended that he had said it back, that they were somewhere beautiful together and Ary was awake to hear her heartfelt confession. For a few seconds she allowed herself that blissful illusion before returning to harsh reality and her bed a few feet away, locking her hopes and dreams in a deep place within her, and slowly drifting off to sleep.
------ The sun dawned bright and early, Ellette smiled and rolled over to say good morning to Aryon, only to find his place empty. The grass was flattened in the shape of where he had lain, but the stallion was nowhere to be seen. She sat up, her forehead creased in a frown as she scanned the surrounding area. "Aryon?" she called softly, then "ARY!!??" there was no reply. Perhaps he was scouting? She ate her breakfast and tidied up around the tree, moving loose leaves and sticks into a small pile at the base of the trunk. It was an impulsive and pointless activity as the wind scattered her efforts almost as soon as she had finished but it took her mind off the problem at hand. Ellette glanced up at the sky a couple hours later and started to feel something like panic welling up inside. When the sun reached its' zenith, she began running circular sweeps of the surrounding area, moving further and further from their tree but she could find no sign of him. This was so out of character! "Aryon!!!!?" she called again, but after hearing no reply she returned forlornly to the tree, ----- Hours pass, what seems like years, the sun was sinking below the horizon again. Aryon was gone, he had left her here alone. Had he heard her confession last night? Had he decided to rid himself of her usurping company for good?
She curled up in a ball and lay there, quivering, until nightfall. Her eyes burning with unshed tears. "Why Ary?" she cast the question up to the stars as the floodgates broke and she began to sob with all the heartbreak and confusion of an abandoned child. She was alone again.

Aryon tossed and turned in his sleep. Sweat coated his hide, and his head ached so badly he could feel it even in his dreams.
A flash of black and green, a sweet laugh, smiling lips...she ran away from him, he was chasing her. No, he was being chased by her. A skinwalker was chasing him. It snapped at his heals and he ran faster. He was racing through molasses, moving in slow motion. It would catch him...it was right there!
He fell.
There she was, standing over him. Elle? No. Another. Yellow eyes, black and green and yellow. Gypsy? It couldn't be, she was gone. Like her namesake, a ghost.
She nudged him. Never speaking, but the intent was clear. Get up.
He got up.
She started walking.
He followed.
"Where are you going?" he tried to ask, only to find he had no voice.
She was gone again. He startled and raced towards the place she had been standing only seconds ago. It was a trap, he was falling again.
Aryon woke up. It was dark, he'd fallen into a dark place. Instead of screaming, he rose from his position on the ground and began to walk. After a while, he thought he saw a flash of white. Wait, that couldn't be her...her hair was black? Green? He couldn't remember...panicking, he began to run.
It was fortunate that the area they were traveling in was flat with a few trees and tough grasses. Aryon somehow managed to miss all the small animal burrows in his path as he ran.
"Gypsy...GYPSY" he screamed, hoarsely, panicked.
She was just ahead of him, he could see her. Black, she was mostly black, he remembered. Why couldn't he remember anything beyond that? Green? Yes, she had been green too. With yellow eyes? He couldn't remember...she was gone again, but he could hear her. Laughing as if they were playing. This wasn't funny, she was teasing him, "Please, come back!"
The image paused, glancing back at him before disolving into thin air. He charged forward with a cry of denial, and that was when his luck ran out. His hoof caught in a gopher hole and he flew forwards, rolling over and over until he came to a stop. He didn't get up.
((Aww, he died. xD J/k, but I think that's all for this one. I'ma start a prp between me, and me. I'll have that done relatively quickly, probably tonight or tomorrow. Do you want to make a new thread or just throw Alanna down in here? Also: Italics are a dream and everything else is a mix of reality and a fever-induced hallucination.))
