He grinned briefly at her comment about hearts. "I actually prefer Maj for short. Majesty always seemed like a grand title and I am not so grand a horse as that. But I have always liked it."
He listened intently and reverently as she told her story. In some ways it was sadder than his own. "I almost envy you. At least you got to know you're daughter for a short time and had your mate. At least you got to name her and she knew, knew, you loved her. Both of you. It might be easier if I knew my child. I fear that searching is useless because I only remember the color of the basket and any number of foals could match it. At least you know what she should look like. I hope you find her one day. She deserves to know you never forgot and never stopped looking."
He turned to kick another rock into the stream. This time for a different reason. Melancholy. "I envy your mate too. He's lucky to have such an angel as you in his life. Having the strength not only to help yourself but everyone else including me. A true angel of mercy you are."

Ali nodded, feeling more confident in her gut feeling that he was actually a nice stallion. "You can call me Ali. Everyone who knows me and cares about me does. As for my little 'Ailana...I only had time to give her her bells and name her, as well as to know her appearance, before she was gone from us. I don't even know if she's alive," she said, a tear slipping free. She dropped her wings from their defensive position, allowing him to come closer.
"My family also gives me my strength. My family is a kind and loving one, one that accepts and gives to those around them unless one is truly and irrevocably evil." Ali had no words to say in response to Maj's jealousy over her mate. She'd never really considered Blake to be lucky to have her, but sure, maybe.

The confused look on her face worried him but she brushed it off. "I still say it's better to at least have known her. Alive or not. I have to assume my baby lives if a priestess wanted it so badly."
Slowly remembering his manners he had to wonder what had made her land in the first place. "Was it me that made you land? Or am I keeping you from something? I don't want to delay you. You've done what you can for me and I thank you."

Ali shook her head. "I was returning home from visiting my daughters and Branwen, so you are keeping me from nothing." For the first time since meeting Maj, she gave a genuine smile, lovely and warm. "I am glad I could cheer you up and I hope both of us may meet our lost children again one day. Maybe we will meet again, and if we do, I will call you a friend of mine," she said warmly.

"Oh, well than, thank you for landing on what seems a whim. I get to go back to my teepee now without my mistress yelling at me." He smiled at the thought. She'd enjoy having his hopeful spirit back. Maybe even he could actually start to enjoy the new found activity and people. "I think I would like to meet your daughters and niece. If they are half as strong and beautiful as their mother they would be wonderful mares." He knew he'd lavishly and boldly laid on the compliment but she'd helped him. She deserved to know he was grateful. "And I hope we do meet again. Or you come to visit me and my family. I will make an amends as best I can with Tebald and Ehawee thinks I don't hang around with other horses enough. I would like to have more friends. It is completely okay for you to land near my teepee whenever you want." He smiled at her and nodded. Pretty angels of mercy were rare and he knew it.

Ali nodded. "I would like to meet your son, and maybe, when I fly by here again, I may be able to introduce you to one of my girls," she said warmly. Spreading her twilight wings, she dipped her head respectfully. "I bid you good day, and may the winds blow in your favor and the stars light your way," she said, moving away and speeding up. Catching enough speed, she beat her wings and kicked off once she achieved enough momentum. Before she disappeared into the turquoise skies, she cast her golden eyes back one last time to see the handsome, lonely father below, whom she now called friend.
