Tony smiled, not doubting for a moment that she would take very good care of the book. She was a thoughtful girl, after all, and always took care of the books she was reading whenever she visited. Not like certain other kids he had met, who were less than careful with the printed volumes.
Dogby perked her ears, sniffing the book like she expected it to be made of bacon. Alas, it was not, but she sniffed it anyway to try and figure out what other foodstuffs it might be made of. None, it seemed.
She still gave a doggy smile, wiggling her tail.
Tony chuckled and watched, feeling content. It made him wonder about a family, about a baby, a daughter or son of his own that he might raise. It made him feel guilty, in a way, because he did have a son that did not make him feel so hopeful about family. It was strange and kind of sad, but he was doing his best.
And there were so many others that did need him, appreciate him, let him be paternal.
"Well, you must have plenty of other people to visit. I really appreciate the gift, and Dogby does too."

Mr. Darrow was right, but it didn't bring a smile to her face. She had other things to do today even if she didn't want to get to them just yet. She had to give other things to other people and they weren't going to deliver themselves. Maybe after she had done them she would be able to come back to the library and read, or play with Dogby. With her thoughts, Ainsley put the book back into her bag and strapped it back over her back before she gave one last pet to Dogby's head, standing up off the floor with a nod.
"You're right, I have other errands to attend to. If you would excuse me," she said, giving a light curtsy. "I am very happy you both like your gifts and thank you so much for the book again. I'll be sure to come by again real soon. Bye-bye!"
It was true, Ainsley wasn't very likely to stay away from the library for very long and with the promise of coming back soon she would probably drop by tomorrow for good measure. She would see Dogby, make sure the little corgi isn't getting into more mischief and probably read another book, or two... or ten. It was hard to stop reading once you'd started, just like walking, and before you knew it you were on your ten book or almost out the door.
