...Okay, well, she didn't really know what "UNF" was (a clenched fist?), but apparently she had to put a lot of it in her pinning attempts. This next step seemed a little more complicated, and the Baku couldn't help but look a little worried as she watched Levi do it. "I...I think I got it." She nodded slowly, before turning back to her own pillow. She got ready, dropped the pillow, and then...

...She missed the catch. Xiu frowned, but she picked the pillow up again without any prompting and tried to do it again. This time, she just managed to snatch the corner of the pillow between her fingers, but her stomping was more towards the shin area than the waist.

...Well, it was true that stomping on someone's shins with your whole weight would probably incapacitate them for a while, but the Baku didn't want to break anything! Not if she didn't have to!

Levi had to keep from perking a smile at Xiu's landing point. The petite ghoul had come a bit short but that could've very well been because- well- she was shorter. The tatzel had to remind herself that she was dealing with someone of an obviously different size. Ain't got no problems with ya landin' there. But 'might be bit heckish come tha next part. It'sa good place ta pin if yer not able ta get higher up, but maybe try ta git to 'ere so yer not in'a odd place fer tha next step. Good work! At the 'ere Levi leaned over and tapped on one of Xiu's thighs to indicated that this would be the best part if she were to sit on her opponent's legs.

From the stomp, Levi jumped with her feet on either side of the pillow then and slid into a straddling position with her knees bent allowing her calves to rest under her thighs. See- cuz, ya wanna stop 'em from movin' outta yer pin, eh? So if ya sit on their legs too low, they'll be 'a squirmin' n' wrigglin' like a fish on a hook so- won't give ya much chance fer keepin' 'em down. See what I mean? If Ya sit on they're legs, tha higher part is better so they got less chance 'a buckin' ya off. From where I am, they can't buck me much 'nless they want me ta squeeze the air outta 'em.

Obviously the ghoul had never fought an undead or ghost before.

She had been a little disappointed with the fact that she hadn't been able to imitate Levi's moved perfectly, but the compliment from the other ghoul made her smile and blush with pleasure. Even if it hadn't been perfect, apparently it wasn't a terrible first attempt! Xiu felt a little pride from this.

Deciding to try out what Levi was doing, the Baku did the jump and straddled the pillow's "shins". Now that the reason aiming for the waist or thighs had been explained, everything made a lot more sense to Xiu. That was right--straddling someone's shins wasn't a very effective method in the least. Falling forward, she fell to her knees so that she could shuffle into the appropriate spot. She would have to work on that.

There was one thing that was bothering her though. "But...what if they try to push me off or something? Do I have to grab their arms too?" And what if her opponents were much larger than her?

She had to smile at the baku moving on ahead, thinking of what was needed for the pin. Excellent! Yer 'a right smart one, ghoul. Yep! That's our next part 'ere. Good thinkin'~

Leaning forward to sprawl over the pillow, she did so in a way that placed her arms sliding along the floor along her forearms and under the top corners of her pillow foe. So- you'll wanna align yerself as close as ya can ta them so yer puttin' as much of yer weight inta their chest as ya can. See- from tha back, they ain't gettin' nowhere! kekeke~

If this pillow were a student, it would've been a flat pin to the ground. Usually she'd back up enforcement using her tail, but the tatzel had to recall that Xiu's tail did not share her length. It was often something she forgot to pay attention to; using her tail for things was just automatic sometimes.

Overall, this was just one example of a very specific scenario as far as pins go. Opponents wouldn't often let themselves turn their back to an attacker. Though Xiu had the benefit of being the unsuspecting sort. They would never think of her as a rough ghoul. Levi had to shake her head at this thought- assuming the petite ghoul wasn't able to be rough wasn't Levi's way. The baku could find ways to take down critters, she would make sure of it!

So these steps all need ta be done much faster than we'd been doin' . Otherwise, ya'll might risk them critters ta swat ya away. Gotta keep closer-than-close when yer attackin'. A'course, then there's if they're on their fronts... it'sa different story...

lot more beatin' involved in that.

She sat back up and tapped her chin, deciding on what sort of scenario to show Xiu regarding this.

Xiu blushed again, using the compliment as encouragement to be more vocal with questions if she had any. She had been a little nervous about asking questions in case they ended up sounding stupid, but...really, what was there to fear?

With a bit of an effort, Xiu leaned forward, trying to lower her weight onto the top part of the pillow just as Levi had done. Her arm position was in the wrong place, but she hastily corrected this after a side glance at the other ghoul's example. Hmm, this wasn't too bad, was it? When she was back in her own room, she would have to practice over and over again to perfect the move though. Not only was her aim a little off, but if you asked her to perform the pinning technique right now at a faster pace...

...Well the fact was that it was a bad idea. Her attempt would doubtlessly be all over the place.

Standing up, she picked up the pillow and fluffed it out so that it wasn't so flat. Her gaze turned back to Levi when she mentioned beating. At once, the Baku's brows knit together in anxiety.

"...H-how so?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 7:21 pm

Levi had to chuckle at Xiu's expression. Guess the ghoul did indeed have the will, but lacked the roughness required to really get gritty. For now, anywho.

Following Xiu's move to get up, she propped her own pillow back into a standing position after shaking it out. hmm... Levi knew what she wanted to do, but wasn't of how to- Ah-! Follow me over 'ere fer a sec, Xiu. Moving over to the wall just by the entrance, Levi patted at the pillow, angling it just so. It stood upright quite straight against the wall and the tatzel put her hands on her hips triumphantly.

Alrighty- I think yer best bet's 'ta git inta some kickin' n' trippin'. With yer height, it'sa pretty good way ta avoid size differences if ya can git 'em down ta yer level, ya know what I mean? Then it's fair game. She perked a grin at the last part. She really wanted to be there when Xiu took down some punk know-it-all boil. Now- lemme see ya try a kick. Guy's comin' at ya- whaddaya do?! She waited to see in what way and where the Baku would hit first.

Curious, Xiu replaced her fluffed-up pillow back when she had first gotten it from, and then trotted over to where Levi stood waiting. The task sounded easy enough, but...there was more to this then just kicking the pillow, right? It wouldn't do if she just swung her arms and legs haphazardly at someone who was attacking her. She would have to consider her move carefully.

Frowning, the Baku looked at the pillow up and down, trying to mentally separate it into segments like before. Head, neck. chest, waist, thighs, shins, feet. Her first instinct--said Levi had said "guy"--was to...well, aim for the spot between the legs, because that was apparently a good weak point. "But...but if I do that, then they can just grab my leg..." She murmured aloud, furrowing her brows. So maybe instead of kicking straight ahead, she could...kick from behind? What was a weak point that someone would have from the back?

The answer came to mind when she bent her legs in preparation. Slowly, and with a hesitant glance towards Levi, she tried to bring her leg around and kick the pillow at the back of its "knees".

...It was just a very slow and clumsy attempt, with the Baku attempting to keep her balance as she wobbled on one leg.

At first, Levi noticed Xiu's attention on the space of the pillow that would've been between the opponent's legs. Huh. This interested her.

Back home, boils didn't kick each other there and she'd always figured it was something about not wanting to touch that area. The ones who nearly did would just go "aye~ aye~!" with their opponent and that was the end of the attempt. Could some sort of recoil occur if one hit that area? She didn't see any reason to try it out if it meant hurting herself. Perhaps one day. For now, she simply watched the baku.

Giving the ghoul a reassuring smile when she crouched, Levi witness Xiu's attempt to kick the pillow at the back of it's knees. She'd expected a bit of trouble, but she couldn't help but chuckle a bit at her wobbling.

Now that's a' right fine way ta kick n' all. But if yer plannin' ta git behind 'im, yer gonna need ta duck outta any attacks. Simply as an example, the tatzel's tail lifted it's tip like a snake did it's head and leveled it at the height of Xiu's head. In a smooth but slow motion, she swiped at the side of the baku's head but stopped before she could actually hit the ghoul.

Ducking? What did Levi mean...?

Despite knowing that she wouldn't actually hurt her, Xiu was admittedly a little alarmed when the tail--however slowly--swung her way. Reflexively, the Baku wrapped her arms over her head and crouched down, curling up into a small ball on the ground.

...Yup.

After a moment passed, she slowly removed her arms, peering up with Levi with an embarrassed smile. "A-ah...I think I...I do need to work on the ducking thing." Her sample just now had been less of ducking, and more of...attempting to dodge out of the way while making herself as small as possible. Clearing her throat, she straightened up, patting herself off before turning her attention back to her instructor. Xiu made a mental note to bring a gift over for Levi next time, just as a thank you for her sheer patience.

Xiu had gone as far as nearly coiling into a ball on the floor. Oh Jack. Seeing just how little the ghoul knew about dodging attacks, she knew it would take a bit of explaining.

Once the baku was up, Levi took to her instructing again. Duckin' outta this sorta attack is'a good way ta git inta that sorta kick! C'mon... let's try it again. Watch me. Levi's tail did the same thing again, only much slower so Xiu would know it was coming.

Try ta lower yer way outta tha hit, but keep ta my side when ya do. Once yer there, see if ya'll got enough room ta kick me behind tha knees like ya showed me! When the tatzel prompted the baku for action, she came to the point of collision and waited to see the result.

Okay, she could do this. She watched Levi's movements carefully, while trying to take in her advice at the same time. Once the tail had reached the correct point, Xiu ducked to the side, brought up her right leg, and swung it around. Her leg met the back of Levi's knees, but it was only a very gentle touch. After that, she returned to a normal standing position and stared down at herself.

...Huh.

Though she had expected that she would have to do each part--dodging, moving to the side, raising her leg, and kicking--in separate, blocky steps, her attempt had felt rather...smooth. Kind of natural, really. Of course, it was still far from perfect--for one thing, no attacker would be so kind as to swipe at her slowly--but it was a good start! It was definitely a better course of action than curling up into a ball.

"You must be an incredible fighter, Levi." Xiu piped up suddenly, looking up at the taller ghoul in awe. She knew so much about this kind of stuff! The Baku was certain that Levi would even be able to take on some of the more experienced boil-fighters in the school.

Thar ya go, ghouly! Just like that n' with a picking' up 'a pace. That's tha duckin' I wanna see! Levi grinned with as much enthusiasm as if she'd just done the move successfully herself. N' ya didn't even need ta be shown 'er nothin', really. Maybe yer a natural fer this kinda movin' Tiring an opponent out while avoiding being hit was also a way to go.

It worked on some of the heftier boils back home- why not have it work for Xiu? Ya see- if yer ducking' outta an attack, they're tha one usin' most of their energy trying' ta hit ya. Good way 'a tirin' 'em out soes you got a better chance 'a hittin' 'em. At the baku's compliment, the tatzel showed all her sharp teeth in another big grin. It was certainly something she delighted in hearing, but it didn't come without a tiny pang of discomfort from her memories of her own training...or lack of.
She had to remind herself of what she was now- yes. That was what Xiu was complimenting. Things were different and she was much more now.

Well, thank ya kindly, screecheart. We all gotta start somewhere tho, eh?

This was more fun than she thought! Or maybe she only believed so because she had actually done fairly well at the ducking/sweeping thing, but whatever the case, Xiu couldn't deny that she was enjoying this lesson. For course, it was a bonus that she was being taught by someone who she looked up to--Levi could do anything!

The logic of the move made sense to her, and she nodded thoughtfully. "So...I should try to tire them out a little first?" If she was up against a larger opponent, though she didn't have the strength to take them on, perhaps she could take advantage of their differences in speed. She had never thought of it that way before today! In fact, had she been thrust into such a situation before this lesson...

...Xiu was being honest when she said that she would just run.

Smiling, the Baku bobbed her head in agreement. "Yes! Maybe someday...someday...I'll manage to become a good enough fighter to protect myself and others!"

The petite doll-like ghouls was doing her best, and it was clearly shown. This was the sort of thing that made Levi proud to share her know-how with others. If they were as hard-working and willing as Xiu, she felt it was a deserved skill to learn; dodging and evasion. The tatzel has high hopes for her now-pupil. A student ... the concept was so bizarre but altogether

Smiling, she affirmed Xiu's conclusion. Right- if ya' keep ta avoiding' tha hit at first, then yer better ready fer surprise attacks n' getting' 'em when they ain't expecting' ya! I like this sorta fighting' maself It was true; some of the best attacks are done when the opponent isn't expecting them. It was also true that Levi preferred speed and agility in attacking, so evasion was something she could adequately teach the ghoul.

Levi new she'd liked Xiu for good reasons. The baku mentioned that she wanted to protect others by becoming tougher.

I'm sure ya'll will do 'em proud.

The rest of the training period, Levi kept this in mind and made sure keep stepping Xiu up as much as she could bear.

The baku trained for several more hours with the tatzel. The pillows were out- she was ready for the real thing now.
