Lucky for the book, Taryn still had the chunk of bread set aside to reward it for not chomping their fingers off. Here was to hoping it deserved it by the end.
The ghoul had no problem holding the struggling book down herself, but if Danny wanted to take over the job then she certainly wasn't going to complain. Taryn relinquished her hold on the pages of the book and began to flip through, or more so tug through as she pulled the pages out from beneath Danny's fingers and began to read through. As she searched, she thought to ask for clarification.
"What context was 'mating' used in?" Taryn asked, and then clarified: "Like... what were you talking about when it came up?" She continued looking for the proper page, but it took quite some careful page-turning and a little bit of backtracking to get there. Here it was...

Danny tapped her chin for a second. "Well she said ..., Danny sat up straight and did a mock imitation of Cricket's voice. "Find out what mating is, so we're all on the page, and think of at least one way to prevent cross-examination." Her face fell into a goofy smile. Her cricket impression was pretty good.
Surprisingly, Danny actually liked Cricket. Nurse Cricket had cute bugs. Anyone with cute bugs was good in her book!
Danny continued in her normal voice now, "I think she just means the definition. General idea? She seemed more serious about the cross-examination thing. That I don't get at all!"
Carefully, she held the book down with one arm. The demoness reached down to her scrapsack and pulled out yet another notebook (that bag was seriously endless). She fiddled very quickly to a scribbled page and then put both hands back on the furry book.
On the page she had flipped to was a crudely drawn recreation of what Cricket had drawn on the board, as well as a few doodles of Roch with moustaches drawn on him and Demi wagging his doggy tail.

"Ah ... yeah, so she gave us this to go off of, but I don't get it at all."

"Oh!" Taryn nodded, "Oh, alright. Okay." Now came the hard part. The real definition. Everything she new about sex had been learned through texts by her own curiosity, and some days she wished she had never looked.
"So mating... apparently by mating, she means-- mm," the ghoul turned a dark red and rubbed a fist against her chest, "When, um... when two people... like each other very much and, um. There's these hormones, see, and they... they get together and... well the boil will put this... thing in the girl's... um." This was far, far harder than she thought it would be.
"Well, you connect. Physically," and Jack damn it that was all Danny was going to get out of her. On to the clinical stylings that didn't make her chest feel funny! "and it's also a focus of Fear. It's dangerous when you don't have control over your Fear, because... well, because your partner could get... horrible diseases. Hard-to-cure diseases, because they're based on Fear." She tapped one of the sadder-looking bobbles with words beside it. "An infection, like. If you're both not in good control of your Fear, you can both get infected. If one of you is more powerful, the other will get... yenno. Horribly mangled. ...but if you're good, if you're experienced, if you have good control, then it's... it's more or less safe." She was looking down at the book again.
Coupling was a terrifying, terrifying process that she hoped to never go through in her entire life.
"When you make a baby, though, you go to the patch and focus yours Fears on a pumpkin and... the pumpkin is like... inert." Was that word too big? Hrm. She referred to the text. "It's neutral. It's got no Fear, so nobody gets hurt when you make the baby." The poor, poor chimera ghoul cleared her throat and shook her head, feeling very uncomfortable.
"There's... protection. Spells and... amulets and things, but um... I don't... I don't know a whole lot about that..." While researching this on her own, she had needed to turn off wraith-search, and what came up then had terrified her from ever looking on her own ever again. In fact, she might have to take this sex-ed class... and sit in the very back...behind a book... weeping softly to herself...
Now that Taryn was hyperventilating, feeling as if her heart was going to leap from her chest, bent over the desk and refusing to look at Danny, she lifted up the chunk of bread again, prepared to thank the book for assisting.
She was going to die.
She knew it.
Right here, right now.

Danny looked at Taryn absolutely horrified. "So ... holding hands and kissing is mating?!" She had grabbed Xiu's hand a few times at the Fright Music Club meetings. Did that mean they were mated? Oh Jack no! Danny liked Xiu and all, but not like that!!
The ghoul kept talking though. And talking. And talking. Danny was actually determined to focus once, so she sat their listening like her life depended on it! Studying was serious business man. This is why Danny avoided it like the plague. Too much work!
Tapping her hand on the book covers she said, "T-Taryn. I'm sorry to interrupt, but ... I don't get it." She looked up innocently at Taryn, but her eyes really were blank. She didn't understand a word the ghoul had just said. Something about fear and infections, that was about it.
The unfortunate thing was that Taryn was probably going to have to draw pictures or spell it out for Danny until it was down to something like "ONE ROCK PLUS ONE ROCK EQUALS TWO ROCKS." It was like math in a sense.
Taryn was a bit preoccupied with the desk it seemed though. Danny stared at the wood she was looking at. It didn't seem that interesting. This tutor thing was weird man.

Oh no... oh no! She had to do it all over again! Taryn gave a defeated, horrified noise and took a deep breath to steel herself. She'd been speaking as clearly as possible, and still the ghoul didn't understand! The chimera rubbed her face and shook her head. Oh, Jack help her.
"No, no, not holding hands," she said carefully, trying to pick her way through the simplest explanations possible, "The parts you use are in your naughty-zone. In your pants. You can't accidentally mate with someone." On a whim, Taryn opened her notebook to a blank page and doodled a stick figure with his bad parts blacked out and labeled it. Just in case Danny forgot.
As she continued explaining she began to draw little mathematical diagrams on how it worked. Maybe the visuals would help better than the sheet the professor had given... then again, maybe not.
Maybe nobody could teach this ghoul.
"So if your Fear power is unbalanced you get HORRIBLE MOLD ALL OVER YOUR FACE, and it's extra-hard to cure because it's Fear-based instead of, like... a virus." The horrified face Taryn had doodled suddenly gained what looked like a cheek-afro, and she labeled it as well.
"So... if you can't control your Fear well, you're weak. If Jane is weak and Bob is weak, and they mate? They both get horrible face-mold. That's why it's so dangerous for people our age." Bob had a bit of a slouch.
"Now, John is very strong, very in-control of his Fear, and this is his girlfriend Brunhilde, and she's very strong and in-control too. They're adults, like. If they mate, nobody gets horribe face-mold because they were both very strong, see?" They both had big biceps, after all.
"But if weak-Jane and strong-John try to mate, Jane pretty much explodes with disease and can never walk again or maybe dies." At least, that was how she had learned it. John still had his biceps and Jane was still a foot and a half tall... and then, poor Jane, she was very dead. As an afterthought, Taryn added a flowery plant sprouting from her moldy face.
"So weak and weak means they both get sick," the chimera ghoul said, going back over her diagrams, "Weak and strong means weak gets sick. Strong and strong means probably nobody gets sick. That's mating." With a heavy sigh, Taryn doodled one last equation.
"But if a mummy and a deadie go to the pumpkin patch and focus their Fear on a pumpkin, it doesn't really matter if they're weak or strong because they're not focusing it on each other, they're focusing on the pumpkin." She nodded with some finality, and then added hastily: "but then you get a baby and they're horrible and they stink and they're a lot of responsibility and ruin your life." She drew a line between this diagram and the others.
"But that's not mating, it's different. That's making a baby. Mating is... uh, again. With your naughty parts. And your Fear"
Taryn actually felt somewhat exhausted after her lengthy explanation and frantic doodling. If Danny didn't get it, she had no idea what else she could do. Maybe she was just a failure as a tutor. Maybe she never should have started! She looked to Danny, fear and hope in her eyes.
"Is that better?"

A very audible sigh of relief came from Danny's mouth. So she wasn't mated to Xiu. That was definitely a relief to her. Not that Xiu was a bad person.
Danny looked down at her own shorts. Boils had those too? Alright. Cool. Danny still didn't get the mating thing- how it worked or anything, but apparently it was some sort of connection using what was in your pants. She didn't need to know any more than that for the class, right?
Taryn was back to the explaining. She made it much simpler and Danny actually understood bits and pieces. She grinned and piped in, "Well then I have nothing to worry about! I'm big and strong!" She pointed to her own arm muscles. She hadn't really caught on to the fact that Taryn was talking about FEAR, not physicality in the second example.
"Okay so like ... you hafta be really good at controlling your fear to mate well ... And so does your partner?" Danny was scratching her head. That was how it worked right?
Now she could move onto Cricket's question. "So like. If it's all based on fear, how are you supposed to prevent it from going bad?" What was the word Cricket had used? "Cross-exminanation?" She goofed up the word a little, but the point was still there.

In Taryn's opinion, the safest way to not get brain-eating mold was to avoid intercourse altogether. It seemed, however, that most people her age disagreed. So be it.
"Well, not strong like--" No, you know what? That was fine. Taryn just let it go. She listened further, so glad to hear that it had all made sense. She would keep that in mind; simple drawings sometimes worked. She ignored the comment on 'mating well' as well, considering that could just spark another confused debate and Danny had gotten so far.
And then? And then she saw a glitch in the plan.
"Cross-examination?" the chimera asked, head tilting to one side, "You mean like... asking the other person? Or, uh... testing them?" Honestly she had never heard of a cross-examination when it came to mating. Taryn pulled and yanked at pages to try an find some reference, shaking her head. What did Danny mean? Cross-exami-- oh. Oh wait. Was she looking in the wrong direction with the mispronounced word? "Do you mean cross-contamination?"

Oh! DUH. "Right! Cross-contaminanation!" She seemed to stumble over those word. But that was what she meant of course!
Danny was struggling to keep the book open now. Booky had decided it was done being obedient, and back to trying to bite her hands off. How come it likes Taryn so much more? she thought. Stupid book. Stupid furry covered toothed book! Suddenly Danny was actually missing the non-animated books.
"So do we use spells ... or uhm ... " She twitched a little as the book gave a sudden lurch, then subsided. Danny honestly had no clue how to prevent FEAR mixing. You couldn't just tell your fear- "Hey! Don't do that!" Was there a way to find out how strong your FEAR was anyways? This was way too confusing.
Sort of weakly, Danny said, "C-can I shut the book please?" She said it with a smile, but one of the teeth was now digging into her finger and it kind of hurt. Of course, if Taryn said to keep holding it, she indefinitely would. She was sort of stupidly obedient that way.

"Oh! Yeah, of course," Taryn nodded. For a moment she took over holding the book down, but only so Danny could be freed before the finally gave the book the hunk of bread it had been promised. With that out of the way, she turned all of her attention on the other ghoul, her arms crossed on the table.
"I guess... spells, yes. I've heard of protection spells on scrolls on the wall above the bed. I've heard of... amulets to protect one or the other or both participants..." It was odd, how she had begun a blushing horrible mess over this and now was actually kind of enjoying teaching the demon ghoul. It was useful information as well, for sure. She felt kind of... important!

Danny scratched her head, and removed her hands from the book, giving the wheel to Taryn. After Taryn gave the book the rest of the bread, it promptly flapped off to another bookshelf. Well that was the end of that. Danny was busy whimpering over her lost bread though. Breeeeead Q AQ
At Taryn though, she said, "Okay ... uhm ... do you know certain kinds? I think we're supposed to write a report on this, but I'm not sure." Cricket hadn't really told them how they were supposed to show their homework. Just that they were supposed to do it. Gotta love teachers.
Danny picked up her notebook and ripped out a blank sheet of paper to begin writing an "essay" that would probably just become a list of facts.
"So what's first teach?" she said with a smile. She was already over the bread thing, though she vowed if she ever found that book again she would burn it to the ground.

Aha, reports! Essays were Taryn's guilty pleasure, and even she didn't quite understand why. There was something special about getting all of your knowledge and, potentially, opinions down on paper. She had never had the chance to help someone write one, though. Hopefully she could be decent.
"Well, usually you start with a definition. What is your paper about, plain facts? Like, 'mating is when' or 'cross-contamination is'..." taryn began, pointing to the blank paper, "Or maybe, you can get a Fear infection when..." She looked around them all of a sudden and shook her head. They wouldn't have sex ed books there, not that mentioned specifics. She did, however, eye the line of school computers. ...why not?
She motioned for Danny to follow her to one of the computers, leaving her things at the table lest they needed to go back, and hopped onto greugle.
This... this could be potentially painful.

Danny started biting her lip. This was starting to complicated. "My paper is uhm ... it's uhm ..." she stuttered. She didn't really know what it was a bout. Papers were hard for Danny. While Taryn may have liked writing down all the information in her head, Danny didn't have any information in her head to write.
Luckily, Taryn had already taken the lead and walked over to the computer. As long as Taryn took the reins, Danny was happy to do pretty much anything she asked.
Danny obediently followed Taryn to the computer like a cub following a mother bear. Greugle? Oh Danny had tried that, with no success. Still, Danny had assumed what she found was success. "Oh! Oh! This is the thing with the jerks and the skimpy clothing!" she said excitedly. Of course, Taryn would probably have no idea what she was talking about.
The paper sat by the computer all lonely. Danny figured she would at least write her name. Poor paper, all by itself. The fire demonness nabbed a pen out of her bag and clicked it with her chin.
Lonely Paper Danny Fitz Ummm ... Today? October 31st Sex Ed Hwk. There. Now it wouldn't be so empty. Danny smiled at her work. Normally that took about five minutes just because of how distracted she got. Danny looked expectantly at Taryn as if to say "ready to go!"

Taryn arched a brow and shook her head at Danny's version of greugle information.
"...uh... no," but that was all she offered, considering how easy the other ghoul was to confuse. As she typed away on the computer, she turned her head to see what Danny had written so far.
...aha. Nothing. Maybe this would be more of a chore than she'd initially anticipated.
"So start off with something like... um. A FEAR infection is when... and then finish it off with your understandings. Maybe like... a FEAR infection is when a couple are unbalanced in strength of FEAR or something like that. Just fill in what we just went over." She queued up a few photos to print (with wraithsearch on) and continued trying to be of some help. "Maybe say that mating is dangerous because you can get an infection, or... talk about how there's ways you can avoid it... or try to..." In her distracted state, Taryn couldn't tell what little sense she was probably making.

Danny's expression immediately dropped with Taryn's abrupt denial of her valuable research. She thought she had done a rather spot on job, actually. Still, if Taryn was saying so, she must've been wrong. Taryn was smart after all, right?
Danny smiled. Now Taryn was speaking her language. Her pen immediately began copying down every word Taryn said, because let's face it- that's all she knew to do.Copied Paper Danny Fitz Ummm ... Today? October 31st Sex Ed Hwk.
Um. A FEAR infection is when and then finish it off with your understandings. Maybe li She paused to frown at Taryn. "You're talking too fast! I can't write it down that fast!!" She was seriously concerned. How was she supposed to write all this down when Taryn was skipping through the lesson like butter?
The more Taryn talked, the more confusing it seemed to get too. She was just babbling a whole bunch of different concepts at once. Danny had trouble remembering to brush her hair in the morning, let alone fifty new concepts shoved at her at once. Still, Taryn seemed to be captivated by the computer screen, so Danny did the same. Monkey see, monkey do.

Taryn looked up to Danny like she had gone mad, brow furrowed. Talking too fast? It was information, meant to be absorbed and-- aha. She caught a glimpse of the other ghoul's paper and shook her head.
"No, no. You can't just write what I say, it has to be your own words, your own thoughts," she tried to explain, "You have to write down what you learned a FEAR infection is. Use your own words. I can help, but I won't write it for you." Alright, it was made abundantly clear that they had to focus on one thing at a time. Taryn stood and retrieved the pages she had printed before motioning for Danny to join her at the table again.
"Okay, so," Taryn nodded, poking a finger into the demon's paper, "You have to write down your opinion of a FEAR infection. Write down what you think it is, in your own words."
