The weight of Phil's head upon his shoulder was very familiar, one the dated back to the early days of his childhood whenever Phil was tired. No matter how weary Theo himself was, he'd struggle to stay awake and be there to watch over Phil, even though sleep eventually claimed him as well. They were so different, and yet Phil was the one person who knew Theo the best, understood him and all his flaws and loved him all the more for them. He let his head rest atop Phil's even though now Phil was somewhat taller than him. In quiet moments like these Theo wondered what was Phil thinking, what went through his mind as they sat here together, each lost in their thoughts, a hundred thousand miles away from each other and still right next to the other. Like a parallel universe, so similar to his own and yet utterly different.

"Silly." Theo said softly, his eyes scanning the crowds, people watching as the ebbed away into their houses, like the crabs scuttling into their holes at the beach. "I'm supposed to be protecting you, and you can't protect everyone. One day, you'll realize that and give out from the effort of trying so hard." His head rested atop Phil's, a familiar gesture from forever ago. "I might still be the same kid, but I think I lost my innocence already." He smiled wryly, but there was a sad, cynical glimmer in his eyes. How did he ever become such a person? How did he manage to lose those rose-tinted glasses and see the world for what it was? The world was so much happier, so much more beautiful before he'd lost that light which made the darkness and pain go away.

Times had changed and he'd grown up, losing so much with the knowledge of the world, the lines becoming blurrier until now there was little black or white. Everything had too many shades of gray in between. He was constantly changing. He smiled sadly when Phil told him not to change. "I'm not that kid anymore from ten years ago who told you to put that foot down one branch and go slowly, who said he'd catch you if you fell. And you're not that kid anymore, even though you're behaving the same. Things have changed without us realizing it." The tone of his voice was wistful, tinged with regret.

"I try, Phil. I don't always succeed, but when people do take it then yes, it's what they need." He smiled ruefully at his twin, shifting his head to face Phil properly. "You're welcome, by the way. I've always believed in you. You're capable of doing anything you want. If you wanted to become a sage, you could. I'm sure of it." Theo grinned, sure that Phil would be okay now. He knew he could take that step without Theo dragging him along before he realized he actually wanted to do it. He was changing right now, before Theo's eyes. Whatever Phil may say, change took place ireegardless if one wanted it to or not.

The bag of candied corn was like something from a dream, especially since it was from Phil. Theo took it from from his brother, immediately opening one and popping it in his mouth, savouring the sweetness as it melted in his mouth before he replied Phil. "Perhaps, if I have time. I need to work if I want to live in Moonfall, you know.: He replied dryly, popping in another piece of the sweet candy. "And maybe if you get me sweets everytime I come up here, even if you complain I'm going to rot my teeth out." His grin turned mischievous, eyes dancing wickedly as he regarded Phil with the same electric blue eyes his twin possessed.

Phil relished in Theo's warmth as he let his head lay atop his own. No matter how many years would go by if this feeling could remain, if things could be kept as they were it should be alright, no matter what came of it. Theo was still there, with him, even though he came so close into being elsewhere once before. He was there, still holding his hand when he needed him, helped him go the extra mile even if it meant shoving him down the road, abrupt as he had always been. The only sad thing about it, was that Phil had stopped being the younger of the two a while back. Even though they were only separated by a few minutes sometimes Phil felt as if he had grown terribly old in nothing but very few years. Then again children rarely stayed that way for long nowadays anyway.

Phil smiled softly as Theo spoke, his own eyes closed, having seen all he could see and having already known what he had to know. The spark that had once lit had slowly grown to burn brighter, illuminating the path he should take. "Nnn, Theo, you'll see." he spoke, voice gently coated with a whimsical tinge. "I will protect everyone. Mother, Father, our siblings and you. My friends also..." all the while he had been in the Academy he had made friends that had helped steel his resolve, and with Theo's help there was nothing left to fear anymore. "The humans, and the Majin alike." even if the entire world was against him, he had decided. Even if there wasn't one soul that wouldn't turn to look at him in disgust. "If you say you've lost your innocence, you understand, don't you, Theo?"

Time told no lies and Phil knew and even though Theo claimed to have changed Phil failed to see it. On the contrary it was him who had been forced to change because of what he knew and what he couldn't tell. Walking such a thin line, threatening to plummet one of two ways at all times had a particular quality that could wear anyone thin. It was selfish, but Phil envied Theo for being able to forget. If he hadn't and they had dealt with it back then, resolved the problem then he wouldn't have to bear this burden all by himself. "Without us realizing it." he echoed Theo, eyes lowered, hidden behind the sunset's stark reflections on his lenses. Yes, things had changed, but not as Theo thought them to have. The accumulated pressure of convoluted thoughts had almost managed to break through his facade, delicate cracks marring the inside of the mask he was wearing so long and yet he smiled, at the very last moment, pushing everything back. And he thought it funny, how such a simple phrase, with such an honest purpose could worm its way that deep and almost trip him up when he had went so long being the paragon of perfection he was meant to be only for Theo. "I guess you're right." the lightheartedness from before was back, nothing indicating that a storm had just swept him by.

He threw himself in the brighter part of the conversation yet again, smiling playfully at his twin as he rebuked his comment. "Come on! You're overdoing it~ Me, a Sage? I'm just a simple pharmacist, Theo." he chuckled; but if that kind of power would let him protect everyone with it then he wouldn't mind pursuing it someday. He was sure Theo could do the same, though, even if he said nothing. He was strong, he knew, but he used that power to destroy which Phil could never truly approve of.

He snatched a piece of candy from Theo and sighed. "You should actually just ask if you have problems with your budget, you idiot. I make enough in between working at the store, selling herbs and medicine and tutoring younger witchlings anyway." he shrugged lightly. "And you are going to rot your teeth if you keep that up." he reprimanded his twin's love for sweets as he took another piece for himself and brought himself to look elsewhere just so that he didn't burst out laughing. To make such a statement while eating sweets himself was ridiculous, then again, Theo never really let him give him any of his medicinal herbal teas either so he deserved to be told off about his health in general.

The weight of Phil's head upon his shoulder was very familiar, very comfortable. Something he'd grown up with and knew very well. Anytime when he felt stressed or the world was too much of a burdern, Phil leaned on him. And Theo stood there, supporting him even though his own knees were buckling and shaking from trying to hold the world together. Since he couldn't hold Phil up if he himself was falling down, Theo learned to grow up faster, to stand up tall for Phil no matter what. He'd do what Phil couldn't do, whether it was to stand up for himself or stand tall on his own. He felt so much more older than Phil sometimes, especially when Phil was leaning on him. But despite being older by a few minutes, it was clear that Phil was gone, the Phil from his memories. Now stood a young man, confident enough to step out and pursue everything he wanted. He didn't need Theo anymore. Things had changed, whether he admitted it or not. Now their =roles felt switched really, with Phil looking out for him instead of the other way around. It made him feel helpless unable to do anything.

"But you can't, Phil." Theo's words were soft. "Some people just downright refuse protection, some are capable of protecting themselves." He smiled sadly and reached over to pat Phil's hand. "I'm too cynical to really believe anyone would protect me." He looked at Phil, his blue eyes somewhat bleak. "Even you." He turned away, looking at the darkening skies. It was pretty much dark and most people had already retreated into the safety of their homes. Theo wasn't afraid of the darkness. He relished it, in fact. Something about it soothed him, allowed him to hide himself, to hide the darkness within by standing back until no one could tell whether it was darkness within him or surrounding him. Something about this nagged at him, making him restless.

Broken fragments of his dreams flashed across his mind, painting a picture of Phil's deperate face before it blurred out, never leaving him without making him fear what it could mean. He lost himself in his thooughts for a moment, trying to ease his mind once more. He deigned not to respond to Phil's protests about being a sage. Phil was capable of it, and he knew it. Even so, perhaps one day Theo would too become a Sage. Maybe, if he wanted to. But right now his main goal was to become a Black Heart. If he had to be a reaper first, that was fine. But he would become a Black Heart. Nothing and no one would stand in his way.

"Hey!" Theo cried out when Phil took a piece of his sweet sweet addiction. "Phil!" He exclaimed. His twin ought to be well aware how possessive he was whenit came to his sweets. "And no, I flat out refuse to ask you for monetary help." Theo reponded flatly. "And, I actually don't care about my teeth. If rotting teeth scare the majin, then good." He leaned back, taking yet another piece of the sweet yellow candy before tucking the bag of sweets into his pocket. Partially to stop himself from eating, partially not to lose anymore of them to Phil. Whatever Phil said, he couldn't care less about his teeth, nor did he care for the bitter medicinal brews Phil often concocted with the excuse of it being good for him.

Standing, Theo stretched his legs and held a hand out to Phil. "Come on, we should go. It's getting rather late." He picked up the cup containing the noodles from earlier in his other hand, turnign to face his fraternal twin once more. So different, yet so alike. Phil was like the better half of himself, the kind and compassionate side of him that he would never have.

For Phil, to whom Theo meant the most out of all people in the world, it was greatly saddening to see him distressed or burdened in any way. And he was all the more sad, all the more sullen over the fact he had been part of all that weighed down in his most distant memories, those that Theo couldn't even properly recall. One day would come that Phil would finally be able to face him and tell him the whole truth about what had occurred between them but he had to be ready for that moment before he would dare to. He had to make sure he would be able to protect him then, keep him from doing something crazy, just like that time.

"That's where you're mistaken, Theo." Phil's smile was soft, warm, filled with a gentle inner light. He had come far enough, learned a lot of things, he was still struggling but at least knew what he had to do. "Even if they refuse protection I will still protect them even if they hate me for it and if they're capable of protecting themselves I'll still protect them so they don't have to protect themselves." he looked up at Theo, his pair of brilliant blue eyes seeking their respective pair to hide in. "Even you." he chuckled, echoing his brother's words back to him. "I will sooner breathe my last breath than not stand up to protect you." he vowed with a small nod of the head meaning every last word he spoke.

Phil laughed at his brother's exclamation at having his candy stolen and his joke about the Majin and decided not to stress the issue of the monetary help he could provide for now. If his brother ever needed something he simply would have to find out and go help him as needed. But for the time's being instead of providing help he was about to receive some as he took Theo's hand to stand up. He was still smiling brightly as the marched onwards into the night content in the gentle feeling the connection between intertwined fingers created. At times like these he would simply feel all-powerful, as if he suddenly had the strength to breach all gaps, tie together all loose ends... and in the end that's all he truly wanted.
