Shun raised a brow at her questions, but didn't think much of them. Going off of that, he could guess that she didn't know any Japanese. This had him wondering if she knew any other languages at all. He supposed it was a possibility.

"Neko. And Aka or akai," he replied plainly.

Staring at the male cat for a moment, watching it for a few.

"Looks like you found your pet, it seems."

"Neko. Aka. Akai." Xiu murmured these softly, committing them to memory. Hey, it was always interesting to learn a bit of a new language! "And yes, I do think I have! He's cute, isn't he?" When he wasn't trying to attack people, that was. Honestly, the Baku wasn't sure why he didn't like the shopkeeper--he seemed like a rather friendly fellow?

Deciding that she needed to get some supplies as well, she circled the store to grab some food and other necessities, dragging them along with one arm while she carried her new pet in the other. She stopped when she found an empty cage--undoubtedly the cat's--and paused to look at the sign. She didn't even know how much he was yet!

The price, she decided, was reasonable. What especially caught her eye was the name of this particular breed though. "Shun? How do you say 'storm'?"

Nodding to her, Shun hesitated at the cute question.

"..Sure.. I guess," he murmured while looking at a few of the treats the petstore had to offer. Bent-Tail was also looking them over with a fair amount of interest. They all smelled so tasty!

Still holding onto the ball, he grabbed one of the smaller plastic bags to pick up a few of the treats.

"Arashi," he replied while getting some candied corn and dried pumpkin bits.

Arashi. Arashi? She murmured the name aloud, knitting her brows thoughtfully. It could pass as a name, couldn't it? And it had a nice ring to it. "I think that fits you pretty well, don't you?" Xiu asked the cat with a grin, her tail wagging. Looking back to Shun, she motioned towards the cash register. "I'm going to go ahead and pay first, okay?"

After some minor injuries, the shopkeeper managed to get Xiu's new pet into a carrier for her, and packed up everything else that she bought. It looked like a lot to carry but, surprisingly, the little Baku seemed to pick everything up with relative ease.

"Shun?" She trotted up beside him, pausing only to smile up at Bent-Tail. "Can you teach me more Japanese? Like, ummm...family members!"

Nodding to Xiu, Shun grabbed a few more of the treats before heading to the checkout so he could pay as well. The transaction was a quick one, seeing how he didn't have any unruly minipets for the shopkeeper to deal with. When that was all said and done with, he took his little bag of goods and turned towards the Baku as she addressed him.

"..Sure I guess," he shrugged, "Ka-san is mother. Oto-san is .. father."

The Reaper kinda mumbled a bit with the latter.

"K...Ka-san." She echoed, wrinkling her nose at how strange it felt to say, "And Oto-san?" She would have to remember these for when the next time she went back home. Her mother had been trying to teach her Japanese when she was young, but...well, she hadn't been the most interested of children, to say the least.

Moving towards the door, she backed into it to push and hold it open. "Okay, then! Ummm, what about brothers and sisters? What do you call them?"

She frowned when she looked at Shun, tilting her head and suddenly squinting up at him thoughtfully. Speaking of siblings...despite how intimidating the reaper came off, he kind of seemed like he would be a good big brother. Xiu wasn't sure where this sudden thought came from, but despite his grumpy exterior, he seemed to be a pretty nice guy deep down. At least, he seemed to tolerate her as well as get along pretty well with Mitsu.

Walking on out the door, Shun glanced at the Baku, raising an eyebrow at the follow up question.

"Depends if they're older or younger.Onii or Aniki for older brother. Onee, or Aneki for older sister. Ototo and Imoto for younger brother and sister respectively," he explained, still not really thinking much of these questions. They didn't seem to be bothering him and he was fairly neutral about them in general.

Unlike when he mentioned the term for father, there was no underlying spite in his voice.

"Oh! I've heard of 'onii' and 'onee' before!" She exclaimed, looking excited as she trailed after the reaper, "My little cousin calls me 'Xiu-nee' sometimes." Suddenly, the suffix that her cousin tacked onto the end of her name made all the more sense. Despite having been wondering about that, she never actually asked her aunt or mother what it meant.

Considering that she started the day with pretty much no knowledge on the Japanese language, learning these few words felt pretty good. Beaming up at Shun, she gave a little wag of her tail. "Thank you for teaching me some words today, aniki!"

Look what you've done, Shun.

Considering the origins of the Baku, Shun wasn't too surprised to hear that she had heard some of the terms before. However, he couldn't help but just.. stare at her when she called him 'aniki'.

".. I'm not your brother," he murmured quietly.

He really hoped that she didn't somehow get that idea. Or that she was joking here. However, between that smile and the way her tail wagged, he just wasn't sure if that was the case. Reading people was hard some times. Either way, he couldn't really think of why she just decided to call him that all of the sudden.

Looking rather amused now, Xiu hid a grin behind her hand. "I know that, Shun! Not my biological brother, anyways, but..." She frowned contemplatively. How was she supposed to explain this? "I don't know. It's just...something about you..." The Baku trailed off, unsure how to continue. It wasn't a bad thing either, though she wasn't sure if the reaper would be appreciative of her opinion.

"I kind of see you as the grumpy big brother that I've never had." She said finally. How she had come to that conclusion after only talking with him a couple of times was a mystery, but at least it meant that she was no longer terrified of him.

Her tail suddenly drooped, and she fumbled with the items she carried anxiously. "But...if you don't want me calling you aniki..."

Furrowing his brow, Shun wasn't sure if he was getting what she was trying to say here. Because of that, he didn't know if this was a bad thing. However, when she finally came to a conclusion, he just kind of stared at her in silence.

How in the name of Jack did she get that sort of impression? He wasn't aware that he gave any sort of brotherly or familial vibe towards anyone. Then again, he suppose he wouldn't really know since he had no siblings and the only family he really had contact with on a regular basis was his father. The rest of the clan lived elsewhere. And quite frankly, he didn't know what to think of it.

Rather than responding to her question, the Reaper stared at Xiu for a little longer. If he knew how he felt about this, he would have replied with something but that wasn't the case. He felt something but he just.. didn't know what that was.

Emotions. Feelings. Weird things.

Xiu stared back at him silently, shrinking a little when he didn't answer. Did she make him mad? He didn't really look angry, but with that being said, she wasn't sure what to make of that expression he wore at all. He looked as poker-faced as ever.

"Umm," Perhaps she had made him uncomfortable? The Baku decided that she had best apologize. "S-sorry, aniki--er! Shun!" She turned her attention to her new pet for a moment, using him as a distraction of sorts. However, she found herself nervously glancing at the reaper from the corner of her eyes.

"...A-are you upset?" She managed to ask, her voice meek.

For a little while longer, Shun continued to stare quietly at Xiu. It wasn't until she asked him if he was upset that he said anything.

"I don't think so," he said quietly before realizing something regarding the Baku's new kitten.

"... Did you buy it any food?"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 9:33 pm

Xiu was a little puzzled by his answer--he didn't think he was upset?--but she decided not to prod. She was just glad that he wasn't mad. Honestly, she wasn't sure where that "big brother" thing had come from either. She just thought he seemed kind of brotherly (if you squinted) and that calling him aniki would be cute.

...Then again, Shun plus cute nickname did not mix. No wonder he was weirded out.

The Baku was distracted by the question, and she opened her mouth to say yes when she suddenly froze. Slowly, she put the cat carrier down on the ground and opened up the large bag she had been carrying, staring in at the content. After a moment of silence, she grinned sheepishly. "O-oops. UM. I'll just...run back now, I guess." She had gotten everything else--litter, toys, and even treats--but had forgotten one of the most important things.

It seemed there was a bit of an awkward silence there for a moment before he shook his head and watched Xiu glance into her bag to see what she had bought. It seemed that she had indeed, forgotten to get any actual food.

"..Well better realize it here than back at the dorms I suppose," Shun said, "I guess I'll watch your stuff while you go and pick it up."
