"Oh," he said, sounding distinctly disappointed. "But what would you want to do any of that for?"
He suspected that if he bothered to get up and leave from this pack, he would do something much more interesting than just settle right back down again with a mate. How boring would that be?

"I've traveled all over, but im alone and that sucks." Sophia looked back at him and smirked. "What do you want to do?"
It was true she had been alone most of her life, never really made any friends. A pack was a far fetched idea but a mate or friend was possible and something she wanted.

"I don't think being alone would be so bad," he countered. He liked to say he had a hard time getting away from his family, but the truth was he spent most of his time chasing after others, tagging along for companionship, since most everyone seemed unable to stand him.
But he'd never admit to that.
"But whatever I want doesn't matter. Nobody ever gets what they want. Especially not me."

She circled around him and nudged him towards the water trying to get him in. "Well have you ever tried to get what you wanted? And no one wants to be alone, then who would be there to share the good times with you?"
She looked at him and smiled nudging his face, "You shouldn't be so sad about life, its a beautiful thing."

"Good times," he snorted derisively. He stiffened when she touched him, but took a reluctant step toward the water, looking at her suspiciously from the corner of an eye. He was half certain she planned to drown him. Wouldn't that be funny. Well, at least then he could leave all this behind him and welcome the sweet embrace of death....except Fubar was too much of a coward to consider suicide as a viable option, ever.
He stopped again at the water's edge and poked a toe into it.
"And you're one to talk about all this 'beautiful life' nonsense," he countered. "Weren't you just going on about how it sucks to be alone all the time?"

She stood next to him and nodded. "Yes im lonely, but i know that my life will be okay. Eventually i will find someone to travel with." She said and sat down sticking her paw in the water and smiling.
"Get in the water, im not going to drown you if thats what your thinkng. Your far larger than me." Normally she didn't take on other wolves that were at least a head higher than her.

"And that will solve everything?" He countered, wading out into the water. "All you need to be happy is somebody tagging along after you? Please."
He made his way to the point where the water came halfway up his chest, and grimaced. "...It's cold."

Sophia followed him and smiled happily. "No your not listening, i am happy. But wuoldn't it be nice if you didn't have to be alone all the time? Or to have someone who cared and wanted to be with you?" She asked and looked at him almost shivering in the water.
Laughing she nudged him with her side, "Start moving and it will warm up."

"They always leave, anyway," he said, wading back toward the shallower water -- but as he did, the air hit the wet fur and he shivered. It was even colder outside! Gah, he was going to catch pneumonia and die now, thanks to her. He'd be sure to point that out later. "Like my dad. My mom thought HE would make her happy, but, hah, he just made her more miserable."
Some of this was conjecture, as Fubar had never actually met his father. But he could guess.
He waded back out into the deeper water and, grimacing, plunged in to swim, dog-paddling messily around in a circle. The light current buffeted him, and he was certain at any moment it would bowl him under.

"Not always, my mother and father have been together for almsot three years now. They are perfectly happy." Sophia siad and paddled happily and looked over at him. He looked rather scared of the water. She laughed softly and kept watching him. Fubar was intresting to her, he was so contradicting.
"Then what are you looknig for Fubar?"

Well good for them, he thought. If they're so happy then why did they raise such a meddlesome know-it-all. ha!
But he didn't say that, because he actually almost sort of liked talking to her and he didn't want to be that mean. Mean, yes. But not THAT mean.
"I don't know," he said, rigidly splashing around in a way that suggested he had never gone swimming before in his life -- which was a shame, really, considering the nearness of his pack to the ocean. "Something out in the world should matter for something. My cousin, he's always talking about leaving the pack to find something. He's got these friends that are planning on going on some kind of trip. Don't even know what they're looking for, but they keep saying it'll be better than sitting around here. Personally, I think they're all going to get out into the desert and starve to death."
But his eyes gleamed in a way that gave him away -- the truth was he thought that would be a great adventure. But he wasn't the sort of wolf to go on adventures.

She noticed the gleam and smiled. "Why not go with them? You seem to be a good wolf to have around. Being so cautious and all." Sophia said and moved towards the shallower water. She said and she let the water drip over her nose.
"What is your pack like?"

"Maybe I will." He had been considering tagging along just to annoy them, and because if Novacaine left he couldn't imagine being in the pack without him. He went everywhere with Novacaine!
He laughed. Him, useful? yeah right. He chuckled so hard that he forgot to paddle and dunked underwater. He resurfaced after a moment, coughing and sputtering, and shot her a glare as though this were all her fault for trying to drown him.
When he had composed himself -- although still eyeballing her carefully -- he rolled his eyes. "It's dumb. Half the members are crazy. They're all the ones in MY family. And the old alpha was evil, but she's gone now and somebody else is in charge. I guess there was a war. I don't know, I don't bother paying attention to those things. Whoever's in charge, it's still going to suck."

She nodded and shrugged, "Why not leave then? Go on that journey and never come back? Surely you can find something better." Sophia said and looked at him strugglnig.
"You know you can come sit over here,or get out of the water if you want. You are very strange wolf. I've never met one like you."

"I'm fine," he muttered, and paddled over closer to her. At least now if he started to drown again he could pull her down with him. She looked like she could float just fine, maybe he could use her to hold himself up. "Can swim just fine...it's just the cold water is making my legs go all numb."
Obviously.
"So what about you? Where are YOU heading? Just going to wander around til you find some place to settle down?"
