"I don't feel cool," Madison admitted. "I feel kinda... dumb. I don't really know what I'm doing." She sheathed one sword, the blade clattering against the scabbard; she nearly dropped the other one in the process. "Gah! Couldn't you be only one sword?"
Kouki's only response was a nonverbal huff.
Once both blades were back in their scabbards, she sighed, then gave Ennea a tentative smile. "Are you gonna go get your weapon too? You don't already have one, right?"

"One sword isn't as cool as four." Ennéa said, nodding sagely. "Besides, I'm sure they'll train us on how to fight properly." Ennéa thought back on their first 'lesson' where they had all been pretty much unceremoniously dropped off to fend for themselves against hordes of monsters. "Um, maybe."
"Don't worry about it." she said, giving Maddie a reassuring pat on the arm.
Her smile slipped slightly when Maddie mentioned getting her own weapon. "Not yet!" she said a little too brightly. "But I will, soon."

She speaks truth, Kouki said, pleased. Indeed, one sword is not as 'cool' as four.
Oh, shut up, Madison thought, then focused on Ennea once more. "Yeah, I guess they will. I hope they will? They'd better, if they want me to be any good." She was pretty sure random swinging wasn't going to really do much for their side... but she wasn't going to think about that now. Instead, she gave Ennea a speculative look.
"I wonder what kind of weapon you'll get?"
Will get HER, you mean.

"I hope I get a lightsaber! Wouldn't that be cool? And then I could be all Piiiish! Vooom! Voosh! Voosh!" Ennéa mimed swinging a sword around, twirlling wildly.
One of her swings was a little too wide and she stumbled and fell. "Whoops!" She held up her hand in a Vulcan salute. "Um, may the force be with you?" She giggled. "Oh wait, that was the wrong one, wasn't it?"
Ennéa got back to her feet and dusted herself off. "You're not disappointed with your swords, are you?" she asked.

Nerrrrd, Madison thought, but did not say; she swallowed the word before it could escape. "I... no, I'm not. They're just... kind of, like, surprising, I guess?" She rested her hands on the sword hilts, gingerly. "I wasn't expecting to get so many... and they talk. I, um, really wasn't expecting that part... it's kind of weird, having someone, like... in your head all of a sudden..."

Ennéa nodded. "It must be noisy." she said. "No offense, Kouki." she added to the swords.
"But think of it this way, if we have a test, Kouki can feed you the answers! I bet he knows a lot about history being so old and stuff." Ennéa paused a beat and then quickly added. "No offense there either, Kouki."
"I was horrible at history," Ennéa continued on her own wild tangent, "remembering all the dates and everything. Who cares who was king when or what bill parliament passed. Art class was more fun."

None taken, Kouki said, graciously, as if Ennea could hear him.
"I... yeah? I guess he could, maybe? I think he used to be like.... a monster, or something, though. He probably doesn't know dates for, like, human things..."
Four-branched serpent. Technically a monster, but... we do have our pride, he corrected.

"Oh yeah, I remember you saying that Kouki was a giant snake." Ennéa said, nodding. "Though... I thought we were supposed to fight the monsters and the ghoulies and ghosties. That's why I signed up anyway."
She tilted her head in confusion. "So, if Kouki's a monster... how does that work?"

"I... I'm not sure." Madison blinked. She honestly hadn't thought of that; yet, when she prodded Kouki curiously, she got a distinct sense of uncomfortable silence. Odd. "I guess we'll find out...?"
She turned and looked back the way she had come for a moment, over her shoulder. "Are you going to go to the Cove soon? To, um, get your weapon, I mean."

"Huh. I guess so?" Ennéa shrugged blithely, unperturbed by the dead-end line of speculation.
Ennéa scuffed a bare foot into the dirt at Maddie's next question. "I will, I will, don't worry, I will." she huffed, a little like a petulant child.
Ennéa wiggled her dusty toes before looking back up at Maddie. "Anyway, I bet you want to go show off Kouki to the others, huh?" she said, changing the subject and starting to move away. "Say hi to Jordan for me~" she called over her shoulder.

Jordan? A faint blush suffused Madison's face for a moment; Kouki chuckled, and she shook it off with an irritated scowl. "I, uh... yeah, sure... nice talking to you? Uh... bye..."
She sighed as Ennea disappeared, then turned and headed for the doorway to the dormitory. She had no intention of showing Kouki to anyone else right now... not just yet. There was so much she still had to wrap her head around, to understand...
We need time to get to know each other, Kouki said, approvingly.
"I guess," she mumbled, and went inside.
