Dith gave another wan smile as Guy appeared, not responding right away as the sword-wielding young man addressed Rosie. What more was there to do but to say they were sorry? There was no way they could face the force Team Rocket had showed at the contest, and if that was even one hundredth of their power he would be surprised... Something Jack had said once - many years ago now - sprung unbidden to mind. With equal resources an organized criminal group will outmatch any other, because their efficiency isn't impeded by pesky things like morals and laws. He knew his friend had trouble empathizing with anyone who wasn't close to him but he wouldn't go so far as to join up with something so despicable... Would he?

As Rosie spoke once more Dith made a vague noise of assent and shrugged slightly. "It's nothing that won't heal given time and rest," he assured gently, comfortable in the knowledge that the bandages around his chest were invisible under his shirt. The scars were going to be impressive, very impressive, and he was going to be in pain for a while but he was hardly going to whine about it in front of a young girl who'd just lost a close friend.

As Rosie addressed another girl - who was speaking to a skinny kid in a long coat - Dith realised he knew her too: he'd almost stepped on her back at the Spring Jubilee. He wished he could just pick the pair of girls up and hug them, but that probably wasn't appropriate. With hugs mentally written off (for now) he touched Rosie's shoulder gently and sighed heavily. "I'm just sorry my efforts were no use." Maybe if he'd kept hold of that Xander kid and tried to use him as a hostage or something?... He needed to find Jack, but how? He was hardly going to find Team Rocket's base on a 'places to see in Kodo' brochure. He supposed he'd just have to hope that Xander mentioned him and that Jack came looking for him. Some hope.

Although he pretended not to hear, Shawn took careful note of the discussions the others were having close by. What he could hear, anyway. If these guys are that upset, it must mean the Rockets took in a pretty good haul this time... he thought. Somehow, though, it wasn't really uplifting to think about such a thing when there were so many gloomy people around. Shawn sighed and went over to a vending machine to get a soda and a bag of chips. He hoped the blue-haired tattoo girl liked chips. Maybe if she ate a little, she would feel better.

He inserted his currency, pressed a few buttons, and retrieved the food and drink from the machines. Upon hearing Izumi's next words, however, he almost dropped his packaged prizes. "Your b-beldum?" he asked. It wasn't anything he thought he'd heard of, but he was pretty sure it was safe to assume the thing was a pokemon. At least it would have explained the funny nickname.

Returning to Izumi's side, he handed her the soda. "Hungry?" he asked, opening the chip bag before holding them out to her. "Uh-huh...so this Wheatley was your...pokemon, then." That made things a little more complicated. He doubted Team Rocket made a habit of returning their stolen pokemon. Sighing heavily, the kid rand a hand through his spikey hair. He couldn't exactly sympathize with the girl...not when he didn't understand the sort of relationship she could have with a pokemon to call it her best friend. He decided to stick to pretending it was a human in his mind.

"Listen...I'm really sorry for your loss. That's terrible, but...what was so special about this pokemon that makes you call him your best friend?" Or waste tears on him, for that matter? It's not like he died. "Can't you...er...just get another one?" Oops, wrong thing to say. You can't get another human best friend just like that, Shawn. Pretend it's a human. A human guy! "Er, I mean...if he misses you as much as you miss him, won't he come back to you the first chance he can get?"

Yeah right, thought the boy cynically. Not even human guys do that. Stupid assholes, abandoning girls when they get sick of them... He couldn't see how a pokemon - an inhuman creature - could care for their human companions as much as their humans cared for them. Still, Shawn held his tongue. He'd probably made things bad enough as it was.

Lindsay had stopped growling. Now that she knew this lady wasn't after her Shawn or vying for his affections, she was alright with her. In fact, Izumi presented a point of interest to the Jolteon. The Rocket-born eeveeloution had often wondered just how much more trainers cared for their pokemon than Rockets seemed to. Izumi's tears seemed proof enough. With a strange sort of pity for the girl, the Jolteon let out a short, sharp bark and lay down at Izumi's feet, surprising Shawn. It seemed to be her way of attempting to comfort the trainer.

"...Thanks." Izumi squeaked out as she reached her hand in and grabbed some of the chips. "Y-yes... Wheatley is- w-was... my beldum..." She said quietly, starting to try and retreat back into her seat. The heartbroken technician couldn't believe her ears when the youth asked her what was so special about Wheatley, the idea of trying to replace him was completely out of the realms of possibility. "N-no... I can't replace Wheatley... W-we've been- were... together since I was little..."

The girl perked up ever so slightly at the notion that Wheatley could just come back. Escape the clutches of a powerful criminal organization, where ever they were, and actually find his way back to her, let alone back to Camphoreon... Maybe it could happen.

The Jolteon laying down at her feet made Izumi smile, it was a tiny smile, but a smile none the less... It didn't last long, however, as the pokemon trying to comfort her brought memories of Wheatley trying to comfort her to the front of her mind, which resulted in the sobbing to return in waves.

As he heard the discussion about the Beldum progress Dith slipped a hand into his pocket to brush his fingers against the surface of the plain grey pokeball hidden inside. It meant a lot to you, a pokemon that had been with you since you were young. You grew up together, had so many adventures and endured so many mishaps, many of which were your own fault and a part of growing up... Was there anything he could do? He wanted there to be, he really did but the whole thing just seemed too big. Sometimes that didn't matter though, now did it? When the cause mattered you fought, no matter what might happen to you if you failed.

Maybe he was just brighter now than he had been in his teens.

Maybe he just wasn't as brave.

He remembered that determination and passion though, he'd have joined in with every one of his parents' schemes had he been allowed... but what could he do here and now? Saying 'I will try' was useless when there was nothing to be tried. What was he going to do, try to guess where Team Rocket might turn up and try to fight them? With one pokemon? Maybe he'd start by getting another pokemon then, or two, or three. He could plan out a solid team for himself, really work on their training. It would be better than just standing around shrugging his shoulders surely, if he had a strong team then maybe next time he could actually do some good... If there was a next time, of course. Seeking out Team Rocket would be stupid, hadn't he come close enough to dying this time around?... Still, it couldn't hurt to get a couple more pokemon.

The teenager sighed. The situation wasn't really in his hands to control. He felt terrible, but there wasn't anything he could do either. Though he felt sorry for the victims of the stolen pokemon, his still owed a great deal more to Team Rocket than he could ever express. They had given him a job, a purpose, a roof over his head, food, company - everything he needed to live a decent life. Well, as decent a life as a criminal could live, but it was better than being alone on the streets. Besides, pokemon - they were just creatures. Dangerous pocket monsters.

User ImageHe was glad when he thought the girl had started to perk up - it must have been what he said about Wheatley returning to her when he could. If a pokemon really cared about their trainer passionately enough, Shawn figured it wasn't inconcievable, but considering whoever had a pokemon's ball was their master, the kid doubted the beldum would get very far. Not that he would ever say such things to the devastated young lady.

"Um...my name is Shawn," he told Izumi softly, thinking it was about time he introduced himself. "Mind me asking your name?"

Catching sight of Dith watching them, Shawn felt an involuntary shiver run down the length of his spine. Did the guy know that he was involved in Team Rocket? No, he couldn't possibly; more likely he was concerned with the sound of Izumi's sobbing. Hopefully no one would think Shawn was the cause of the girl's distress. Still, if that gigantic dude had been present at the scene of the crime, how on earth had the Rockets managed to get away with their loot? He didn't even want to think about it. That man must have posed some kind of obstacle, though. He made Shawn very glad to have not been part of the raid.

"Huh?" A fresh new wave of tears brought the boy's attention back to the tattooed girl before noticing Lindsay at her feet. He raised a brow at the Jolteon, wondering if she had done something naughty, but the electric-type merely looked up at him with large, innocent amber eyes. He figured his own pokemon must have made the young woman recall her own. "Hey...c'mon, please don't cry. I'm sure he's safe...somewhere. Do you remember anything about who took your pokemon?" he asked. "What exactly happened?" Maybe, just maybe, if he could figure out who the thief was, he could explain to them the girl's situation and convince them to give the pokemon back.

A weak smile appeared on Guy's face as he listened to Rosie. She was right; all that mattered right now was that they - she, Dith, and himself - were all okay. No one was horribly injured, as far as he could tell, and all of their other Pokemon were intact and out of harm's way. Still... It didn't seem like enough. The shock of having Vany'n stolen from Rosie overshadowed all of the fortune that had come out of the terrible misfortune that occurred not but a few hours about. It was devastating.

At Rosie's thanks to him, though, Guy merely shrugged his shoulders. His eyes grew slightly cold and steely. "...It wasn't enough, though. Nowhere near enough. I tried, but I couldn't actually do anything. Because..." He placed his head in his hands. His eyes were now shut tightly, as if he was trying erase all that had happened last night from existence.

"...Because of that damned Asch. I don't know what it is with him, but he's so... disconcerting." That was a lie. Guy knew exactly what about Asch bothered him so badly. The fact, the simple fact, that Asch knew his birth name was reason enough to arouse suspicion, but the fact that was nearly identical to Luke was too eerie to be any kind of a coincidence. It was like they were one and the same... Even down to the expressions in their eyes. "I can't wrap my head around him."

Out of the corner of his vision, Guy could see a couple other figures a short ways away from them. One of them, the blue-haired woman, he instantly recognized, but just couldn't place the name... What was it? ...Izu? Umizu? Izaya? As soon as Rosie said it, though, it instantly came back to him. "Oh my... It's miss Izumi..." Guy began to stand up to go over to her and try to console her for an obvious loss, but he was beaten to the punch by a strange adolescent in a long coat. ...Ah, well. Hopefully, the kid would have more comforting words for the woman than Guy did. ...A failure of a swordsman, that's all that he was.

Anonymes was surprised to see miss Rosie reaching up towards him and holding onto him. It was not a bad thing, no... Just unexpected. It was definitely nice, though, to be held by miss Rosie. Miss Rosie was so nice. She deserved all the happiness in the world. No one as sweet and kind as miss Rosie should ever be this sad, ever. Those mean people... The ones who ruined the contest... They were the ones who made her this sad! What mean, cruel people! Anon should teach them all a lesson, yes he should! He would make those mean people pay for making miss Rosie sad, yes he would! His expression turned from sad and sympathetic to happy and friendly as he latched onto Rosie and gave her a big hug. "Laaaam!"

"N-no..." Izumi whimpered. "I-I think I got knocked out... I-I was talking to Izaya... um... a guy I met once... and then- Well, I don't remember after that." The engineer sniffled and put a chip in her mouth, chewing it as quietly as she could.

Ah, yeah, first time flyer, Perdy could recognize though, meaning he was going to have to take care flying with this one. But at least Luke go on without much hesitation, or protest.

Once the bird knew the human was on alright, the Pidgeot took back to the air, flying with Luke all the way to the hospital, where he had last left his trainer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She watched Guy quietly, tilting her head to the side.... she could tell this was hard on him. something had happened during that fight, there was something about this Asch...
Asch... She couldn't believe it. why did he do this? took her mother's Pokemon, one of her best friends, her more treasured...
Hands clenched, remember the sight of the knife held so close to her.
Bowing her head against Anonymes, grateful for the embrace... really needing one right now.
Surprisingly, Luke almost could have fallen asleep during the flight. The rush of wind was cooling after having spent so long in the heat, and he wasn't nearly as uncomfortable as he had predicted he would be. Worry, however, kept him steadfastly awake, though his gaze was languid and tired as it lingered on the passing ground below. His fatigue surged away from him, though, when he realized exactly where they were headed: Sandalwood's hospital. Frigid dread settled in the pit of his stomach; he wasn't so sheltered that he didn't know what a hospital was or why people went there, especially since his mother had always been so frail. His own feet reached the ground before Perdy's, having jumped down as soon as he was confident he could do so without damaging his ankles. Sore feet, sunburn, and dirty clothes were nothing.
Somehow, perhaps instinctively, the boy managed to force himself to run again, swiftly closing the distance between the Pidgeot and the hospital and forcing open the doors abruptly. A silent panic burned in his eyes, stealing the breath from his lungs and leaving him without words. He could see Rosie and Guy, but he couldn't believe that they were there, unharmed. Having spent the entirety of the journey catastrophizing the circumstances of his friends only to find that the destination was in the hospital created a disconnect between what his mind believed and his eyes perceived. Still panting slightly, he stared wide-eyed and silent.
Of course, all that the room's occupants would see was an outlandishly disheveled boy standing waveringly just inside the door and wordlessly staring at them. Altogether it was likely a disconcerting image.
Perdy was alarmed when the human suddenly jumped off of him and bolted to the hospital.
He continued to glide after, though eventually had to land to keep from knocking into to many people.
Rosie was standing quietly, watching Izumi from where she stood, hearing her story, and feeling her chest hurt even more.
Why would someone do something like this? It HONESTLY made no sense to her... who WANTS to hurt people like this?
There was commotion at the entrance of the Hospital, several people stopped where they were, and muttered, someone had thrown open the doors, seemingly desperate, and was standing there. Poor, quite disheveled looking individual.
Thats not what Rosie noticed though. Staring across the raining room with wide, blue eyes.
"L Luke?"
What was he doing here? He had been back in Camphoreon, staying to keep out of the uncomfortable summer heat.
He looked like he had gotten plenty of heat though.
"Knocked out?" That's a dirty trick. She couldn't even fight back to defend her pokemon. "Was he the guy who knocked you out? How did you get knocked out? Do you remember?" Come to think of it, wasn't there a guy with a funny name like that in Team Rocket? He thought he had a trainee roommate with that name... But no. Could it have been?
Suddenly a red-headed young man burst in looking like he had run a marathon across the island. Shawn stared. "Uuuum..."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 10:13 pm
Guy's heart was heavy. He felt so helpless. What on earth could he do? What power did he have over the barbarism and evil of Team Rocket? ...Alone, next to nothing. He couldn't even stop one man from taking one of Rosie's most precious Pokemon. A large sigh escaped him as he glanced over to Rosie. He could tell she was taking this loss very close to heart, and he was sure that she was hurting. Even so... she only thought about the safety of others. She really was a virtuous person.
The sound of Rosie speaking brought Guy out of his daze and caused him to look up in surprise. Did she say 'Luke?' Sitting up straight now, he glanced towards the entrance and his eyes widened in surprise. It was Luke!... And he seemed to be exhausted. How did he get here, anyway...? "Luke! What are you doing here?"
If Anonymes had a mouth, it would be stuck in a cheerful grin at this moment. He was giving miss Rosie a hug! Hugs were good! They helped people to feel better! Miss Rosie needed to feel better, so he gave miss Rosie a hug, and it worked! She was feeling better! Anon could tell. He heard Rosie say something, and he turned his head around to see what she was looking at. Gasp! It was sir Luke! He was Master's friend! Any friend of Master's was a friend of Anonymes! The happy Lampent gave the human boy a large, friendly wave in welcome.
What was it with this place and boys with swords? Maybe that shouldn't have been the first thing that came to mind but it was, and he'd had a long day, and a lot of stitches, and so he felt excused. "A friend of yours?" Dith asked rhetorically of Guy and Rosie as the studied the red-headed youth... red-headed youth. That was creepy, the cast of his face was strikingly similar to that red-haired boy from the contest hall. Ugh. His head hurt, everything ever since he'd walked into the stadium had just been too strange.
Rubbing his forehead wearily Dith decided to trust the chairs after all and sank slowly into one, which creaked in protest but didn't break. He hadn't asked for this. He'd come to Kodo for relaxation and recreation, but instead he'd had his chest clawed open and got caught up in a nasty tangled mess of a situation... The red-haired kid really did look worn out. At least he could be of some help here; Dith heaved himself back to his feet (feeling mildly silly for getting up again so soon after sitting) and dug in his satchel from which he retrieved a large bottle of water. Moving across the room, he held it out to the strange boy. "Here," he nodded, "you look in need of a drink... Luke? My name is Dith."
This disparity between seeing and knowing was bridged his friends' address. The fact that they were speaking to him reinforced the fact that they were there, winning out over the possibility that they were elsewhere, wounded or even-- That wasn't an option anymore, and he cleared the worry from his thoughts. With a heavy, expulsive sigh, he visibly relaxed, his former urgency parting from his posture and taking the vast majority of his nervous energy with it. The fact that he had just sprinted from Camphoreon to Sandalwood in the middle of a summer afternoon caught up with him almost immediately, and he found his way to the nearest chair and unceremoniously slumped into the seat. His first instinct, to be absolutely taken aback by the sheer scale of the giant that approached him shortly thereafter, was subverted by the fact that said giant was offering water and Arceus yes so thirsty.
A murmured response, possibly - but not likely - a thank-you, accompanied the hand that reached to accept the bottle. He drank deeply of the contents, not unlike a Goldeen being reunited with water for the first time in years. When he was satisfied, he was at least refreshed enough to hold a coherent conversation and regarded the other trainers in the room with an anxious curiosity, "What on earth happened?"
The Pidgeot wasn't to far behind Luke, readjusting his wings as they were folded comfortably back against his side.
Long yellow head crest sweeping behind his as the bird shook his head.
He chirred at Luke than lifted his form, fluffing the feathers around his neck rather proudly, and amused
His beak snapped, stopping once he was next to Luke again and lifting his head to look over at Rosie and Guy.
It wasn't his team mate Vahy'n, but it was one of her friends, maybe this will cheer her up a little... hopefully.
Kiss Kiss pounced from seat to seat, Ears perking once she reached the chair that Luke had dropped in, sitting up on her back two feet, staring at him and his... state as he drank.
Rosie didn't really move at first, clearly surprised to see Luke -here- Glancing over at Guy when he reacted, clearly Guy didn't know Luke was coming either, so it wasn't something that she had forgotten about during this whole mess.
The group started to gather to Luke, Even Perdy had returned, had Perdy brought him here?
She followed Dith with another look over to Guy, with wide eyes. The blond girl reached out to put her hands on Perdy's chest, petting the Pidgeot fondly before reaching down to get his Love Ball out to return him
A hospital wasn't really a place for a large Pidgeot.
She stood watching Luke as he drank, Why was he so tired? He looked like he was about to fall over... he... he didn't have a run in with Team Rocket to, did he?
He asked the question she was wondering though.
She had every intention of answering him, but her words got caught in her throat... Where did she begin? How were they going to answer this?
Rosie glanced toward the doors of the hospital to avoid anyone's gaze, swallowing a couple of times, trying to clear her throat.
"Team Rocket..."
