The thing is...
I don't know what to think of it. It's such a huge step (one step below engagement), and we've only known each other for half a year [and been together for almost 2 months]. Of course I'm happy he made the gesture; it shows that he really cares for me. But I'm still new to these waters. I'll figure out my feelings towards being "promised to" eventually.
And, for future reference, I know the difference between a promise ring and a purity ring.

Hm. Maybe he wanted to assure you that he's serious, and the gesture seemed more concrete than words alone. Still, it is quite a big jump. :s

And for future don't be a douchebag, we determined that people call purity rings promise rings and some people call pre-engagement rings promise rings.

It might just be because I am older.
But I know where you are coming from
lgtenos. I had the same feeling when I
got mine days ago. I felt like time hadn't
passed enough, and though I felt it was
very sweet. There are WAAAAY too many
youngin's out there promise ringing it up with
out knowing the work that really goes into
being a full fledged married couple some day.
But just know, those feelings are easy to lay
to rest, because a promise ring can mean many,
many years into the future before the next step
will be made. My brother is in the army, and he
gave one to his girlfriend (Now wife) as a token
to be faithful to her in the army. He might mean
the same thing. ^^
Anyways, sorry this was so long. I wish you the
best, and that is very sweet he wants to be faithful
to you. :3 I hope your babe cakes comes home safely.

My cousin is currently trying to find a way to propose to his girlfriend before going into the army. His reason for the proposal was he wanted the thought of knowing someone is constantly hoping for his return and had a powerful reason to make it back alive. Maybe your boyfriend feels the same way about you :].

Since it isn't really an engagement ring, I'd say just go for it!
I know that a promise ring is big, but hey. It just shows that he cares about you, and that he loves you.
Perhaps he thinks that you're a douchebag, who knows. cool
