Barracus' ears flicked backwards to catch the sound of hooves crunching through the dry skeletons of leaves a few yards beyond the cave mouth. His eyes glinted with malicious glee as another plaything walked unsuspectingly into his trap.

"Sounds like Daddy's home Karloff," he crooned in a singsong voice, his golden eyes glazing over once more as his insatiable bloodlust took hold. The beginnings of a plan tickled the back of his mind and he fixed the colt with an eager stare. "Lets play another game, shall we pet? I'm going to n** off for bit of a stroll you might say," He grinned suggestively, revealing the blood and bits of tissue that still stained his powerful canines. "You can entertain Daddy for a bit while I'm gone, hmm?" He stood and stretched languidly, kneading his claws against the stone floor and producing an ear splitting screech that echoed throughout the small cavern. "If your a good boy, and don't tell him of our little game, I'll spare his life when I come back for you tomorrow night. But if you choose to be naughty Karloff, well then I suppose Ill have no choice but to rip his throat out too...." He tilted his head towards the terribly still heap in the corner, "I look foreword to hearing how you manage explain that little detail, but I'm sure you'll be terribly creative...Your fathers very life depends on it after all...." He gazed at the foal thoughtfully for a moment, "Here's a small gift to get you started, unsheathing his claws yet again he swiped at the colt's face with blinding speed and strength, feeling a warm shiver as he felt flesh tear beneath his paws.

He offered the small bloody foal an almost serene smile as he turned around, morphed into his coyote form without another word, and slipped out of sight into the thorny bushes that ringed the cavern mouth just as the proud new father trotted into view.

Barracus watched....And waited.

Karloff felt the blood oozing down his face, as the pain settled in. It had been so sharp and quick that at first he coudlnt' feel anything. But as the blood seeped into his eyes and down his face into his mouth, he felt the pain spreading.

His mother was dead. His father might soon be. He would be too soon. He needed to do something, save his father. Do anything to save him.

As his father walked in the mouth of the cave, he could see his father's face sickened with loss.

"Karloff," his father's voice called as he started to rush toward him.

"No!" Karloff didn't recognize his own voice, but his father faltered something alarming passing over his face. "I killed her...Go. There's nothing you can do to save me now." He could feel the blood running down his face, and tenatively he liked it as if he wanted it. He found that it wasn't as repulsive as he thought.

His father's voice was incredoulous, "Karl--"

Karloff felt a sicking drop in his stomach as he lapped up his mother's blood. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw his father leaving--disgusted...scared...tired...sick. Confused.

That was why. All these years, he thought his father had left him on purpose. That he was too weak...too whatever t love him or take care of him. But he had gotten rid of his father. Saved his life.

Karloff could feel the anger ebbing away.

The heavily muscled coyote slunk back into the cave once the stallion was out of earshot. Settling himself across from Karloff, he crossed his paws daintily and slowly expanded, bones shifting and cracking grotesquely as they popped back into position, glossy ebony fur receding until he was back to normal size and shape. "Well," he said simply, "Well, well, well my little treat, I wouldn't have guessed you had it in you." His golden eyes were alight with a feverish glee, "nasty murdering little foal aren't you?" he tsked and reached over with a paw to wipe the blood from Karloff's mouth, jarring the fresh wounds opened on his face. "Red is a good color for you," Barracus noted and licked the blood from his paw with a passively seductive air, "Those are going to be some terrible scars, Karloff."

He rolled onto his side and traced one talon through a small puddle of blood, doodling on the cave floor while he thought. "I must admit, I'm a bit put out that you chose to cut our game so short, we could have had quite a bit of fun with Daddy before I take you home." He glanced over at the foal with a smirk, "Perhaps I'll chase him down after all.... Bring him back here for another round..."

Karloff watched Barracus with intense hatred. "You'll leave him alone. I'll do whatever it takes to protect him. To kill you." His voice was low and threatening, and already the acidic, iron-like blood that had drizzled into his mouth was...appealing. He shook the thought from his head.

He stared at the skinwalker. How he hated him, how he wanted to kill him. But wouldn't he be just as bad as Barracus then? Did the skinwalker even feel anymore? Or was he past feeling?

What would it be like to not feel pain anymore? It had to be some kind of heady elation. So freeing.

"Don't be tiresome, dear one." Barracus hissed through gritted teeth, his amber eyes flashing, "What will you do? Kick me with your spindly little legs? Bruise me with those delicate hooves? Your defenseless, weak, useless like the rest of your kind. Before you moved an inch I would have you gutted and bleeding out on the floor in front of me, only able to watch helplessly while I drink the life as it seeps from your veins. I was spun from the nightmares of your kind, the perfect predator, spawn of hell. What have I to fear from mere child?"

He chuckled softly to himself as he turned to gaze out into the darkness outside. He would have to stow Karloff somewhere secure until the following night, the evening was young and he would not waste it yammering with the little tidbit. Barracus stood once more and cuffed the foal with his paw, "Follow me, unless you'd prefer to be dragged? Say goodbye to mummy, love, you won't be seeing her again."

Karloff listened intently. The longer they conversed, the farther his father could go. He felt some small fear as Barracus threatened him, but not as much as she should have. "Why should I go with you? Why don't you just end it here? I won't go willingly."

He puffed his little chest out. "You can't make me leave her, you'll have to kill me. Do you understand?" Anything, anything at all to get his father a better chance to live. He hoped he was running far away, where Barracus could never find him.

Barracus reached out and with casual violence, cuffed Karloff with one paw, claws unsheathed. He licked his lips absently as his claws tore open previous wounds and inflicted new scratches in tender flesh. The already strong scent of coppery blood permeating the cave intensified and the purewalker's mouth began to water. It was difficult for him to avoid making a snack out of this overly talkative, vexatious little foal. Again he allowed his mind to drift off to the brutal future he had planned for the Kawani lands, Karloff was the beginning. Foals were easy to come by, but there was a certain something about the little colt that drew Barracus back. Determination flashed in those....red eyes?

Barracus swept in closer, using his paws to sponge away the bloody mask flowing over Karloff's now barely recognizable features. It wasn't just the blood, or the lighting. The child's eyes hadn't been red before.

"Shut up," he replied absently to Karloff's bravado, his provocatively violent veneer vanishing in his surprise, replaced with decisive brutality. He gripped Karloff by his neck in his dagger like jaws and dragged his unwilling prize outside. There was a puddle near the cave, the shallow remnants of a previous rainfall. He set Karloff down next to it and shoved his small head towards the water. "What do you see?" He demanded brusquely, the hazy red light of the moon mad things confusing but he was sure it wasn't just his imagination.

Karloff felt the sudden realization as he looked back on his thoughts. He'd always believed his eyes had been that way...but they weren't?

Karloff felt the searing pain as the claws scarped across his face and opened up new flesh wounds. For a moment, he was blinded by pain before he was being dragged outside the cave. He balked his feet, afraid he was going to force to hunt his father. He would fight every step of the way.

The sharp claws dug into the back of his neck, as he was pressed forward to the puddle. At first, he was shocked at not being thrust under and drowned. But then something caught his eyes in the water...his eyes. "What did you do to my eyes?"

The red glinted back at him solidly, deliberately. His eyes had changed from their natural colour to this--this red! "How?"

Water splashed as Barracus dropped Karloff into the puddle, he turned and sauntered a few paces away before sitting and staring up at the blood red moon lording over the night sky. When he turned back to face the colt, an eerie smile played across his features and a there was a strange glint in his eyes. "Not I sweetheart," he began, now that the shock of the discovery had worn off he had once again adopted a disturbingly playful demeanor.

"It seems you have been chosen by the blood moon."

He pondered that statement for a moment. He hadn't planned on it, but it seemed somehow....right.

"Are there other changes?" he inquired mildly, his voice a sultry purr, "Any sudden urges or cravings?" He chuckled darkly, "You will once I've finished with you at any rate. You would tear your own mother limb from limb if I ordered it," a heinous giggle bubbled in his throat but he swallowed it, "Had I not already taken care of her, that is."

That had been when this all began. Would it have happened anyways? Maybe...maybe it would have only been to do with the moon, but Karloff doubted it. Somewhere deep inside him, he knew that none of this would have ever happened without Barracus.

"The blood moon? What does that mean?" He questioned. He didn't know what a blood moon was. "Why was I chosen? Why did YOU choose me?" He could feel the anger welling inside of him.

How did he know? Karloff felt his blood run cold. How did he know that he was feeling a surge of thirst for the red liquid? His throat burned, but he didn't want to try it or taste it. Not his mother's blood. Not anyone's blood! "What does it matter?" But he might as well have told him.

A slow deep chuckle rippled from Barracus' throat as he released the foal and let him drop into the blood clouded water... The sound of a creature that feared nothing.

"Why, tonight Karloff. The night of your birth, a night dedicated to the celebration of every sort of twisted debauchery."

He fixed him with one, large golden orb. "Why were you chosen? Because, my dear, you have proven yourself worthy of my attention. You are no threat to me, but through you, I shall usher in an age of madness, darkness, and despair, the likes of which have never been seen before in these lands. You have been granted a...gift. A gift that is far more useful to me and far more deadly to those that oppose me than I could ever have hoped for, it is a simple matter to break a mind Karloff.... I know it will be painful for you, but not to worry. I will be here to help you remake yourself, your new father, your creator. You will come to appreciate the things I will teach you. In time you will no longer remember the pitiful scraps of life that produced you and bow down to the one who has raised you, molded you." His words washed over the foal, beguiling, enchanting, caressing. His voice was seductive, commanding.

A hint of malice crept into his silky voice,

"You are fierce and tenacious, with a strength of will and sense of self that not many possess at such a young age. In short, a useful tool. The very qualities that will impede you from submitting to me will also render you a capable servant when your spirit finally breaks."

Karloff kept his mouth sealed as he fell into the the puddle. He didn't want to tast e the blood though he could smell it. As Barraccus' words broke over him he could feel his fury rising. "You can't break me. You'll never break me, I won't be your tool." He could feel himself shivering in anger. He needed to hold on to what this...this monster had done to his mother. That's all he ever needed to remember to not break. There wasn't anything that could take that away--the knowledge of who Barraccus was.

However he wanted to use him, he wouldn't allow it. He'd run away, and if all else failed he'd starve himself until Barraccus would have to discard him or end him. He wouldn't be a tool--not now or ever. What did he even mean that he was useful? What power would did he have that would make him a canidate for his madness?

Was it something about the blood? His red eyes? What was it? He had no strength, not physically.

"Is that so?" he replied mildly, "We'll see."
His face split into a cruel sneer as he stepped closer, until he loomed over Karloff like a dark cloud. Leaning down he placed one huge paw onto the back of the foal's neck and pressed down with all of his strength, unsheathing his claws as he did so so the points slid into Karloff's flesh.

"Enough questions," Barracus hissed into his ear, leaning closer, "First lesson, henceforth, you shall address me as 'master,' I am the center of your existence, your teacher, your guardian, you live and die according to my whim." He pushed down harder, using his other paw to twist the foal's head around to look into his eyes, half closing his eyes in gruesome ecstasy as blood washed over his paws, "Best not be stubborn, love, we haven't yet begun to explore your capacity for pain... Although with a sharp tongue like yours, I have a wonderful feeling I'll have a lot of your blood on me before you are fully trained..."

"Now, my pet, I think I deserve a sincere thank you for all the attention and effort I have put into you tonight, don't you? Say 'Thank you for teaching me'" His face came closer as his claws flexed, "Say it like you mean it, now." he urged, his voice adopting a pleasant, almost fatherly tone.

Karloff could feel the wounds on his neck still, the wounds beneath his mask. Sometimes the old scars hurt still, and oftentimes the wounds on his neck would bleed as a colt.

He could feel the slices on his neck, the hot flowing blood down his neck. The pain made him wince despite himself. He wouldn't say it. He wouldn't. He turned his crimson eyes up to Barraccus. Gritting his teeth, he let out something slightly like a hiss at him.

"No," his voice was calmer then he felt as his face was wrenched around. "Thank you for teaching me...that you're a--monster!"

"You forgot the appellation, dearest." Barracus chided gently, dropping Karloff's head roughly and sitting back, a small smile playing across his features as he gazed intently at the foal. "Although I can't say I'm not pleased you said that, I would have grown bored of you rather quickly if you cooperated so easily... I tend to kill more quickly when I'm bored, which would be a waste. I think I will miss you once you are gone, Karloff, so much... Excitement, you have brought to my life. Perhaps I'll keep a piece or two of you in my cave in remembrance someday. Once you have finished serving my purposes, of course."

His wide smile showed perfect rows of sharp canines, "I can tell your going to make this difficult." He regarded the colt thoughtfully, "Of course, you will learn to be seriously sorry you defied me, true as that statement may be."

"You need to learn that your life no longer belongs to you, Karloff. It is mine now and I can do whatever I want with it. I can hurt you whenever I want, for as long as I want and no one will rescue you... There is no one left to care." He reminded the child with a nasty smirk, "The only one who can save you.... Is me. From now on, every pain free moment you experience is a moment only I can grant you, soon you will learn to do whatever I say without question or hesitation..."

"You can pray for death of course, there's always a chance when your dealing with purewalkers... But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Death is a release you no longer have the luxury of pursuing... And escape..." He chuckled darkly, "Well what hope does a blood drinking regular like yourself have of being accepted into decent society? I suppose you wouldn't know much about how the world works yet, but I guarantee you would be an outcast, a social pariah, doomed to spend your life alone and despised. You belong at my side, Karloff. That weak stallion and pitiful mare may have birthed you, but it is I who was meant to mold you. I am the only father you will ever know. The only one who can appreciate and embrace the evil inside of you."

Barracus stood up and cast a scrutinizing gaze at the horizon, where the sky was beginning to lighten, and growled under his breath. All that hunting he had planned would have to be saved for tomorrow night. He stood and pointed at the cave mouth, "In you get" he ordered with a commanding tilt of his head, "The sun is rising, we will spend the day here and begin the journey home tomorrow night."
