Scrapjack Quick question, what are the "big five"? Metagross, Tyranitar, Dragonite, Garchomp, and Salamance. That also includes then Gen 5 equivlents, but I am not sure which those are at the moment. So, the term is subjected to change.

Not really relevant to this format. But thats an annoying restriction, I hope you don't implement that in further tournaments, I like my big guys.

I suppose I shall join in this one as well. I feel like its been far long since I actually battled anyone online.
Also, I don't know what is up with the big 5 rule considering none of those pokemon fall in the parameter of being in any of the designated elemental types for this tournament. razz

I was trying to explain this the other day to someone, but I could not remember Metagross to save my life. So obvious now. And you would like your big 5. That's why they are limited. Cuz people use all 5. XD And yes, I love trolling you! You're troll bait. Sorry, it's just how it is.

The thing about this 'Big 5' is, (first, garchomp is baned so he's no longer on the list). Beyond that, Metagross sees little play in higher levels due to his low speed. T-tar is the lynchpin of most sandstorm teams, and Dragonite+Salamence are easily dealt with by having a poke with hp ice/ice beam. The ubers banlist is there for a reason - because those pokemon are too powerful for fair play. This 'big 5' list seems just to be saying "oh well, we don't like it when people use popular pokemon". By that logic, you might as well ban the genies, excadril, Drizzletoed, Droughttails, ferrothorn, etc. Hell, why not just force everyone to play UU if you hate pokemon like that?

They aren't banned though, you can use 1 per team. So really, it is pretty even. Plus it's not a Standard rule either, it's very useful for Gym Battles though. I mean, Cormini used Poison, how many Poison types are even OU? 2? Tentacruel and Gengar, so it would be pretty hard not to lose if you are decent yourself and using Metagross, Tyranitar, and Salamence. Nothing against ya, Cormini, he's good, I'll vouch for that. And people can debate the whole Ice murders dragons all they want, but not everything carries Ice Beam, ya know? Sure, throw a Weavile on your team, you can revenge kill both of em, but then you'd be using a pokemon on every team just to take care of the two (Salamence and Dragonite) who might not even be there. It makes the game difficult. I'd find it hard to believe that even 25% of the OU pokemon use Ice attacks. Even if they have them. It really just even the playing field in themed tournaments. In general Standard tournaments don't use the Big 5 Clause. It's not as necessary.
And I'm not kidding. You're troll bait!

It was cut and paste since it's our standard Tri-type tournament rule-set. It is one thing if you are given free range of the pokemon you can use, but in a Tri-type tournament, it is possible that a Big 5 can be too strong for others. They are also very comparible to legal legendaries, which if they are banned / Restricted then the Big 5 should also be restricted. The lesser pokemon are not because their over-all stats do not match up to that of the Big 5. And in some tournaments there are exceptions, such as Bullet Punch on Szicor. However, none of this really applies to this tournament so it is of no real concern.
