Mtoto giggled a bit as Sata nuzzled the top of her head, it tickled slightly, but more so she just really enjoyed a good giggle every once in a while. As she slowly let up on her giggle fit she caught onto the end of his question. "Yep! They're really pretty aren't they?"
The closer they got to the bunch of flowers, the more antsy she became, and with a light amount of pressure, Mtoto pounced off of Sata's back and onto the mossy ground below. Luckily for her, this time there wasn't anything in her way to cause her trouble so she was sure to do a victory pose as she stood up and shook herself of the moss clinging to her fur. "See Sata, it's like I said! They're really quiet, but they do talk! You just have to listen reallly well." She whispered the words softly, as she tried to hold off the hint of fear in her voice. She really hoped Sata wouldn't think differently of her than he had when he thought she'd been speaking of animals.
Mtoto smiled as she gently padded up to the nearest plant, lending her ear over to it's leaves as she did so. She nodded quietly as she did so, listening to the breeze as it blew through the area.
"I know they're not animals, and that they can't really tell us how their day has been. But plants are alive just like the animals, and they're much more peaceful...."
The cub trailed off once more as she perked her ears high into the air, intently listening for another whisper from the plants she adored so much.

“Yes… they are pretty.” Sata said slowly – cautiously? – as he eyed the interaction between the cub and her… friends. It was a minor shock that was sure but so very interesting at the same time. Was it one of those things the adults called “a phase” when giving a kind but condescending look towards a younger lion? Or was that assumption arrogant…? Just because he couldn’t hear the plants, it didn’t mean someone else couldn’t. Who was he to say that this little girl wasn’t particularly attuned to the forest all around them in a way few other lions were?
“Can you hear them? Understand what they say? Or is it more of a… feeling?” he asked in pure curiosity, sitting down with his head tilted to the side. He still wasn’t sure what to make of this sudden turn of events (sudden only to himself though…). Plants were living beings… and the Na’vi always sought to protect their beloved dense jungle from external threats… and they also prayed near the twin trees… was it so strange that some gifted lions could hear them talk back? “Do you hear them talking or Eywa speaking through them…? Or the ones that have left us?”
Even though there was still the possibility that the cub was making this whole thing up, that thought never really crossed the adolescent’s mind.

The young cub nodded in agreement with Sata's original statement. These plants were her favorite part of the day, and she felt terrible when she was separated from them. "The plants here in this field helped me to understand that it's OK to be different." Mtoto beamed with pride as she looked across the field, disconnecting the eye contact she had shared with Sata. "Of course, their time has come and gone, but their ancestors are here now!" Mtoto smiled with glee, completely unaware that she had indeed spat out the wrong word. But that was OK, she was a cub; it was normal to be confused sometimes.
She had little to no time to even understand that she'd spoken incorrectly, Sata's latest round of questions had thrown her for a bit of a loop. To be truthful she had never considered exactly how she was able to communicate with the plant life around her. Sure, she knew it was something that others weren't doing; but she'd never considered why she was when they were not. With a confused expression quickly swallowing up her gleeful expression Mtoto wandered slowly back over to Sata's side and plopped down, her head tilted upward so that she could see his reactions.
"Well, I don't really know. It's confusing, but not something I think of as a bad thing. But I do get weird looks sometimes..." She paused a moment trying to think of the right way to say what she felt. "I guess in a way I can feel what they're thinking. It's like looking at someone you're close to, and knowing exactly what they're thinking. Even if it may not be obvious." Another pause, and a deep breath. "But, they do talk! You just have to listen. Of course, they don't use words like we do, they use the wind and even a bit of their movements. Like when we shiver when we're cold, or scratch when we itch!
The thought of a possible connection to Eywa lit the cub's eyes up once more, and she was immediately excitable again. "I never thought that it could be Eywa, but anything is possible." Mtoto nodded as if to reassure the lion that her statement was true, but something else was eating at her as well.. "Do you think it's Eywa, Sata?"

Sata decided he’d have to be very careful with his words because this was clearly something important to the little cub. He moved closer to the plants and dropped to the ground slowly and respectfully, looking at the foliage around him with new eyes. “I think it’s something you’ll figure out as you grow.” He said, organizing his thoughts as he smiled at the cub. “I could always understand our little jungle brothers and sisters better than most lions… I’ve only learned more as I grew. Perhaps it will be the same for you.”
Taking a whiff at a particularly beautiful flower, Sata stood up again.
“I can’t hear them…” he said, a hint of sadness in his tone but it wasn’t long until he was smiling again. “Just don’t forget to keep paying attention to everyone around you. I’ve neglected those around me in the past, even my family. You must always find balance in your life, little Sister.” Look at him, sounding all grown-up!

Mtoto watched eagerly as Sata bent low to the ground. She had high hopes in mind as he sat, what she assumed to be, listening. She herself was listening intently to every word he said. He seemed to be familiar with the ways of Eywa, and she'd be a fool to not listen.
"I hope it will be Sata, hey! Maybe as I grow to understand it, others will to?! Do you think that's possible?"
Mtoto was crawling with anticipation as she waited for Sata to rise. But her anticipation quickly faded, as Sata rose and stated that he couldn't hear them. It was disappointing definitely. But Sata's words seemed to help her understand the situation a bit more. As long as she grew to understand herself, it wouldn't matter if others ever did. She just had to do the best she could.
"I understand Brother Sata, and I promise I will never lose touch of my family and friends-" Reaching up, and leaning into the male's furry chest Mtoto purred lightly and rubbed her cheek against his budding mane. But quickly caught herself and interrupted the moment with a slightly random outburst, "O-Or you, I really hope I don't lose touch with you either!"

“Of course it is, little sister. Anything is possible.” Of course it was just as possible that she would grow out of it. Which didn’t make her ability today any less real, in his opinion. He was surprised by her reaction though not in a negative way. For once, it seemed he was getting along with his own which was a mighty improvement on his part. He gave her a quick nuzzle on the forehead.
“Alright, time to go! Say goodbye to your friends.” he said quickly, leaning down to gently grab the little girl by the scruff of the neck. His next words were muffled but still very much perceptible. “Next time, we can stay for a bit longer. When he get permission.” The blue lion chuckled, making his back through the same path they’d threaded before.
This had been a rather interesting meeting, in his opinion. For one thing, he would surely start paying a lot more attention to the plants he steeped on every day.

Mtoto put on a slight pout as Sata called their visit to a halt. Naturally she was upset at the news, But she was completely understanding that it was time to get back to the pride. After all, Sata didn't HAVE to offer to escort her, but he had so she could at least respect his decision.
"Awwwww OK..." The young lioness drug her paws slowly across the soil as she gently nuzzled against her plants one by one, whispering small comments to each and every one as she went. She worried Sata would grow annoyed with her long winded goodbyes, and instead halted part way through and tip toed into the center of her private field. Taking a small bow to the plants around her, she peaked back at Sata once more before closing her eyes and mumbling a small prayer to her plants. Thanking Eywa for her protection and thanking the plants for their companionship. "I would also like to thank Brother Sata for bringing me here today, and I hope you all enjoyed his visit!"
She then stood, bowed her head and returned to Sata who gently picked her up by the scruff of her neck and headed back home.
Today had been a good day, she remarked to herself as she smiled. She'd opened another to the possibilities that her green friends were truly their friends, and that was worth everything to her. In return, Sata had taught her that she wasn't alone, and the animals outside of her realm of life were just as important.
Today really had been a good day.
